1948-villages[edit]

Ok, I think I am done on Nuris and Zikrin; both pass the DYK-test; please feel free to nominate them, if you like. As for Al-Ja'una: I´m mostly done cleaning up...A couple of unsourced statements are still left, but in any case; I don´t think there is any way it will be a DYK, so no hurry....

I am going to be a bit busy in other areas for the next few days; I borrowed some books from the library, and I would like to "mine" those books before I return them. There are also some "older" village-articles I srsy want to expand, like Balad ash-Sheikh. In other words; may I ask; pls don´t start expanding a -48-village in the next week or so, at least if you expect me to join in? ;P (LOL! I *never* thought I would ask anyone this ;D ) Cheers, Huldra (talk) 20:31, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

If you want to nominate Zikrin, then perhaps something about it being known as Kefar Dikrina in Roman times...would be a suitable hook? Cheers, Huldra (talk) 23:36, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Catalan city[edit]

If you have a chance, could you have a look at {{Infobox catalan city}}? I made a first stab at changing the backend in preparation for any pending substitution/deletion. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 20:54, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

For the pushpin map, there is Template:Location_map_Spain_Catalonia, in addition to the obvious Template:Location_map_Spain. I actually like the small inset map in File:Location_of_Camprodon.png, but I agree that the gray is not so pleasing. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:05, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
I was thinking the exact same thing. See {{Location map Spain Catalonia}}. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:23, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Bot...[edit]

Watchlist the currently redlinked Wikipedia:WikiProject Intertranswiki/Danish/Missing articles page - I've moved the program onto an unused server system away from my house and I'm just leaving it to run overnight. If it succeeds, I'll try kicking off one a day (overnight) and then set off one of the huge wikis over a weekend - like de perhaps (gulp!). Sorry about the delay, but the bot processes so much that it makes my fans at home whirr like a jet engine and the missus isn't keen on that going on overnight! Locators[edit]

Yay! As for the regional map, I can't easily remove it for just one federal subject (that'll require quite some tweaking) and I am hesitant to remove it altogether, because there are ups and downs to both approaches (having a separate regional map or relying on the globe). I'll see what I can do, though, because if both locators are combined into one, it makes absolutely no sense to have a separate regional map; and you are right, the shorter we can make this box, the better.

I will probably try tweaking the infobox in such a way that it only displays one map when a combined locator (such as the one you are trying to get for Kaliningrad Oblast) is available and two when no such locator is available. It'll be automated; we'll just need to be updating the lookup subtemplate as new combined locators become available. Might take a while though. Would that be an acceptable compromise to you?—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 16:15, November 2, 2009 (UTC)

I completely agree. In general, two maps is an overkill, and if they can be combined, that's the way to go. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 16:48, November 2, 2009 (UTC)
OK, I've made some tweaks and now we can mark the location maps as combos as they become available. You can see the results in Krasnodar (or any other infoboxed place in Krasnodar Krai, for that krai is currently the only one with a combined map readily available). I don't necessarily like the fact that only a part of Russia is given as an overview, but for the purposes of illustrating the principle this will do. Please let me know if you see any problems, though. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 20:11, November 3, 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the DYK award with the instant recogniton of my 100 DYK contributions. I do appreciate your glowing words on my contribtions. I have started the article on Architecture of Sikkim in an unconventional way. Have you visited Sikkim? If so please let me know if you have any pictures of the monasteries in Sikkim, other than what is posted on wikicommons. Request[edit]

Hey Blof. I need your help here. A user starts creating a section titled "Age controversy" to Mallika Sherawat's article. All the sources he cites are not reliable (remember santabanta?!). Secondly, a section like this is totally unencyclopedic. She claims she was born in 1981 and that's what reliable sources also write. Any other thing would be breaking her privacy. I need your opinion on the talk page. ShahidTalk2me 16:30, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

HAHA LOL! That's what I also heard - different people say different DOBs - but unfortunately in blogs. Reliable sources say she was born in 1981. Personally I do not believe this. But I'm out of this. ShahidTalk2me 17:57, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Could you take a look at Template:Infobox Philippine province/sandbox? I have a feeling there will be a lot coming out of the French Wikipedia as well. It's smaller than the German, yes, but I've noticed a tremendous lack of overlap between this one and that one. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:39, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
My initial look at France suggests something similar, but the processing time is dependent on the size of the wiki (its article count) rather than the number of pages that ultimately end up linked to over here. So although France will have greater output, it will take less time overall Fritzpoll (talk) 14:43, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
By the way, would there be any objections to creating separate lists for not only countries, but fields? I have a feeling WP:MILHIST might be among the most productive possible sources out there, and I can try to get something together with the various Religion projects as well.John Carter (talk) 14:46, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Yes, provided I have a list of categories that you want me to analyse and target pages to dump the output to, I can do this without any recoding. I would just want to quickly ping BAG and check that my approval does not require updating to accomodate working outside the Wikiproject Intertranswiki space Fritzpoll (talk) 14:49, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Well if the military history project requested a specific target for Fritz to create a seperate list for I'm sure he could do that at a later date.., at present though we don't want to complicate things and create all sorts of thematic lists. We just need a pure directory of missing articles from each language wiki... Either way though if a specific wiki group requests lists for them to work on I am always very open because it means that by whatever project people will be working on translating them and showing an interest.. Abhishek[edit]

One user keeps adding this text to the Abhishek Bachchan article:

"Abhishek Bachchan is today widely perceived to be a moderately successful actor but one incapable of ensuring a movie's success on his own steam. The few successful movies he has appeared in have been in a supporting actor capacity, the only exception being the 2007 Guru."

This is untrue, and in addition to being nonsensical and stupid, it is unsourced, and the only source you can find is this bollywoodmantra.com (a completely unreliable source) film review, which proves absolutely nothing. Could you please explain it to him? He accuses me of being a Pakistani/Bangladeshi and I don't understand hiss mentality. ShahidTalk2me 18:12, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Well, Bhutan's actually quite notable in philatelic circles; they do some of the most interesting postage stamps around. I have a map of the US which adds some nice color to my office; I retrieved it from someone else's cubicle when he went on to another job. Hi!

I could find the following references but may not be adequate for 5x expansion. I hope to find more soon.

I have attempted a draft with available references at User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Kalpeshwar. It still falls short of requirements of 5x of 7500 ch for the text only. May be you could add from info available with you. I went to the San Diego library (close to my place) today to find some books but none were available on Palaces in Udaipur. May be you will be able to find some books. Since you have been writing on films also, may be the Octopussy novel, could give some info. Sorry for the delay. The article's definitely looking a lot better! It may even have to be split up at some point, but that's down the road. It's good to see that the biography works so well as a source for improving the article. I noticed that in the infobox you mentioned that he's active until 2007. Since he's still active with directing/producing, shouldn't that still remain as present? Anyway, nice job on expanding the article. --Happy editing! Wow. It would be interesting to see his biopic, whenever that's going to be made. I'm sure that's an area of his life that a writer/director wouldn't glaze over. Eastwood's had quite the career. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 22:49, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Nepal[edit]

There's a lot of minor clean up, but I take it you are talking about settlement type? The settlement type I would suggest should only be VDC if it is not a village. It is like saying "Peterborough is a unitary authority in eastern England" True- bu t "Peterborough is a city eastern England" is better. Rich Farmbrough, 08:38, 15 November 2009 (UTC).

Pretty much done what I can, this is a very messy set of stubs from different authors, no common category, links form the key page sometimes go somewhere else, like "Yasam" - who defines what is a town and what is a village? I live in a town with about 20,000 inhabitants but it has been a town since it was very much smaller. Rich Farmbrough, 17:25, 15 November 2009 (UTC).

AfD nomination of Ergastolo[edit]

An editor has nominated Ergastolo, an article which you have created or worked on, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ergastolo and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 05:16, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Lukhangwa[edit]

Hi! Sorry, I really haven't had a minute to myself since you wrote last and it looks like the next week is going to be really full. There is quite a lot of information on Lukhangwa scattered through the book The Dragon in the Land of Snows by Tsering Shakya. I just don't have the time or energy to try to make it into an article at the moment - can I pass the baton to you? As for Phari/Pagri, I will see if I have any additional material on it and add to to the present article when I can. All best wishes from the best of the tropics, John Hill (talk) 06:36, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Himalayan Explorer,

Great work on the Lhorong County article, I'd not been watching it, so I missed the progress. And thanks for your request request on my talk page re: county level locator maps. I've answered it there. I was also wondering if you knew anything about any name change from Shannan Prefecture to Lhoka Prefecture. A user has recently moved the article to the new name with little explanation and failing to update the content to reflect the change. I think it may be a mistake on his/her part. It be great if you left any info on the talk page if you have any. --Keithonearth (talk) 18:11, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Shannan/Lhoka[edit]

Read the talk page and see http://tibettravel.info/lhokha/index.html - also the transliterations in the lead. Also look at the de (Lhokha (tib.: lho kha, tibetisch: ལྷོ་ཁ་ས་ཁུལ, Shannan) ) and sv (Lhoka, även känd som Shannan, ) articles. It does seem this is not just a whim. It should be sorted at the article talk page and then moved to the preferred location. Rich Farmbrough, 19:56, 17 November 2009 (UTC).

Italian comunes[edit]

As of this moment the 8100 articles transcluding {{Infobox Italian comune}} exactly matches List of Italian communes (2009). It took a few months, but my first two passes are now complete. I wrote a PerlWikipedia script to translate infoboxes from the Italian wikipedia and paste them into the articles missing infoboxes, so the process was relatively painless (just a bit slow to complete). My to do list is still full, but let me know if I missed something (not that I am particularly looking for new tasks, but I am open to suggestions). Orang National Park[edit]

Hi!

Did you see our article, which was at the head of the que, appear on the main page yesterday night? Just now, I find my other article St. Thomas Church (Palyar), which was listed at the head in the que to appear on the mainpage about this time has disppeared from the que list (whole list has disappeared). I don't know what is the problem. Would it be possible for you to verify? Thanks.--Nvvchar (talk) 06:17, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Sorry for butting in. I have put it as a lead hook, because it was a good-quality article, and time zone was fine, but another admin decided that we've got too many "buildings" leads lately and replaced it with a "ship" lead, right before the mainpage launch. I didn't argue - we keep peace at DYK. Materialscientist (talk) 23:02, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

A note[edit]

The DYK Medal
Honestly, I am not a fan of many of those countless topics you're writing on. I also rarely give barnstars. However, I respect and admire your work for DYK and WP. This goes beyond our areas of interest and expertise. Best wishes. Materialscientist (talk) 00:51, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

PS Don't hesitate to leave a message.

I'm in a disoriented state of mind this hour, thus I'll reply now before going off-line, because it is my habit to do so, but better don't take it seriously. I respect any knowledge, but you're a major WP contributor and I judge your work (forgive my boldness, I'm not in position to judge) differently, i.e. by efficiency for WP. I understand your point on "seeing us from a neutral world viewpoint", but think about average WP readers. Hm .. how to illustrate, let me take an example of your recent DYK nomination Monsoon Palace - it uses James Bond and DYK to promote a very different subject, and (sadly) I find this a proper way to popularize culture and science on WP. Another example is my own experience - there are thousands of WP articles on minerals, chemicals, etc., which are intrinsically useful, but very few people read them. I can expand an "obscure" article, and nothing will change. I can put it on DYK and it will be viewed some 10,000 times. It will return to obscurity, but at least some will read it. I can also take a popular, but undeveloped article (say diamond, water, solid etc.) and make it better. Those articles might be viewed up to 10k times every single day. I think having fun and being useful is a contradiction at times. Sorry, this is most probably not what you asked to reply on. Regards. Materialscientist (talk) 12:11, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
No doubt, having fun is important to keep writing. I've never overstretched myself before, but I do on WP and have to choose what to do (that choice is stupid now actually). Going back to chemicals, minerals, etc. - I can keep expanding them ... Hm .. I forgot another thing - interaction with people is important, thus I won't do that only because I'll be alone there. Materialscientist (talk) 12:41, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
Same here - if you need my word, I'll be glad to help. Yes, I receive a warm word of thanks on my obscure DYKs too, and I do value that a lot, but. It is only one-two messages usually, thus good for my own satisfaction only, not for my goal. Sorry, I'm already asleep. Till then. Materialscientist (talk) 12:51, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Félix Buhot[edit]

Wow - I'm surprised there was no article on him yet.

The National Gallery did a pretty good show of his work a couple of years ago - here's the website. There might be some good material to work with there. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:01, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

I've been around, what are you talking about? :-) Seriously...I've been doing mostly Wiki-gnomic stuff. I've had a fair amount of work to do, and a dental appointment yesterday. I did get down here to do some photography a couple of weeks back - the article needs expanding before I illustrate it, though. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:15, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
Actually, most of them are from my own personal directory, "Living people whose surnames start with Q without U". There's already almost 200 of them in the category...I'd do more, but I'm a bit at sea when it comes to Albanian. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:39, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, they have pretty much the same reputation here. See Elbonia for an example - I think it's supposed to be a thinly-disguised riff on Albania. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:51, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
Well, in the States the Balkans don't have the best reputation, either...warranted or not. I think when most people hear "Bosnia", for instance, or "Croatia", they think "war". I know I did before I went to Croatia, and saw the landscape around Dubrovnik. I had always assumed that the Croatians were responsible for a lot more destruction than they actually were. But then, that's American coverage for you...lump 'em all together because they're Slavs. As for Slovenia, I think they got off easy because a.) they're so far north, and b.) they were successful at disengagement and got out of the war quickly (ten-day war of independence, anyone?). So they didn't get as much media coverage.
As for Africa, I think the reason it doesn't get much media coverage is simple; it's not photogenic enough. Besides which, the American press is horribly Ameri-centric, though they'd deny it in a heartbeat. They don't really care one way or another if Americans aren't involved, sad to say. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:35, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
I agree to a point - Wikipedia is doing a great job covering the non-Anglophone world. But I still think that there's a lot more we can be doing, though I'm greatly encouraged by the number of editors I've seen recently showing interest in African and South Pacific topics especially. I try to do my part, sure...but I'm feeling a bit burned out at the moment. I've been meaning to do a few more articles tonight - maybe I'll get around to it, we'll see. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:40, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
Well, when it comes to news coverage, I'd rather get it here than anywhere else. And that goes for American and European subjects, too; I really don't trust most American news outlets farther than I can shake them. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:33, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi[edit]

Hi, Ecuador is great! I am living in Cuenca now and taking some Spanish classes, though in truth I'm not sure exactly how useful they are. I guess it's good to make sure I'm speaking Spanish for at least a couple hours a day. I speak English with my gringa friends here generally, and some of my Cuencano friends speak English better than I speak Spanish so we slip into English sometimes. I do think my Spanish has gotten better since arriving though. I'm basically functional and only occasionally get frustrated by not being able to say something I want to say...

Somehow even though I only have 10 hrs of classes per week, I manage to fill my days up by doing museums in the morning and going out way too much at night. Here the weekends start on Wednesday. Last weekend, come Sunday night (after partying hard four days in a row), I felt like death. Hopefully this weekend will be a little more low-key. My neighbor in the hostal who is from an indigenous community nearby has invited me to go to his village and some other nearby village that is having a fiesta. Hopefully that should be really fun and a little less tiring!

I have tons of photos from museums here I need to upload, but the internet is pretty slow. Evidently there aren't fiber optic cables to Ecuador yet so that's why it sucks. Another article to write, Internet in Ecuador. There are so many! I also need to write something about the drought that's been going on here. There have been rolling blackouts for a few weeks now across the country because there isn't enough water in the dams. Not having power gets a little old. Hope all is well! Calliopejen1 (talk) 16:05, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

By the way, thanks for writing Monsoon Palace! It's totally appropriate that the DYK hook was James Bond because everyone in Udaipur is obsessed with the fact that their city was in that movie. When I was in Udaipur I didn't make it up there because I think the hill is too much for rickshaws so they don't go (or maybe they're not allowed? I don't remember) and I didn't want to pay for a taxi.... Calliopejen1 (talk) 16:07, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Györffy György[edit]

The missus won't be here till tomorrow night, we'll have a go at it over the weekend for you. I'll get the scaffolding in place ready.

Nice to be asked. Si Trew (talk) 19:30, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

For the purpose of the list, I've moved the article to Western Name Order, György Györffy, though the other exists as a redirect. The DEFAULTSORT is Györffy, György.
Yeah, still doing towns (and other bits of geography), only about 2000 to go. It's better to do on demand though, at least one knows one has at least one reader! At the moment we are trying to tidy up a lot of the articles around the Revolution of 1848, starting with the individual battles and then we will work our way up the tree to the more overview articles. The HU:WP can be quite scant on this (for example some of the big figures were not even on HU:WP so we translated them back from English with a bit of help from Polish WP), and we are no historians (or geographers), but hope that it gives others a start to fill in more info. My area of expertise is science and technology, but of course those are exactly the kinds of articles that rarely need translating, as it is quite international to start with.
I am a bit of an omnivore so I really do anything that takes my fancy.
Hope you are OK too. Si Trew (talk) 20:34, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
Done. I can't find a pic that is unquestionably free for use. Si Trew (talk) 18:38, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
I've subbed the article a bit for the inevitable slips that one doesn't notice while translating; nothing major, just typos, formatting errors etc.
As a quid pro quo, if I give you a list of the Hungarian articles we have translated, can you go through them to decide if they are worth moving out of stub class? There are probably about two dozen. I'd prefer not to do it myself as it seems rather incestuous. Si Trew (talk) 06:33, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Adalaj Stepwell[edit]

Hi!

Nice to see two of our articles getting cleared on DYK. There was an error in posting DYK credit to my talk page. It has appeared on your page, which I have transferred to my user page. I have informed User:Materialscientist]] about the error. He has replied stating that it was a technical error. Any way all is well that ends well.

I have now prepared a new article on an altogether new subject namely of The Adalaj Stepwell in Gujarat. It is at User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Sapt Puri. Please see if you wish to nominate it on DYK with a suitable hook. I will transfer it to main space after little more additions and editing and inform you.

As regards Ladakh and Leh related articles, I did one long back on Tsomoriri. We can do it now on Korzok Monastery and Khalatse (both are stub articles). Getting pictures will be a problem. Korzok has lot of pictures on flickr but Khalatse has none. Let me know. If you have some other suggestion pl tell me. --Nvvchar (talk) 01:24, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

I added lot of text on the Kursha Monastery article but it was not saving and finally got deleted. Probably, you were editing the infobox. I have prepared the article fully and incorporating the revised infobox. I can post it now. What do you say?--Nvvchar (talk) 21:10, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

I have added text and imgs, and completed my inputs to the Kursha Monastery article. The expanded prose part is definitely more than five times. You are free to edit as required. --Nvvchar (talk) 22:52, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

I have completed my inputs and corrections to this article. Please feel free to edit and then nominate it on DYK with a suitable hook.--Nvvchar (talk) 02:09, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Pl have a look at this article, which I have expanded. Prose expansion is more than five times. You started the stub page. I will be adding more photos from flickr soon. You may edit it with more contents on the monastery proper since I could not find much on that.
I need help from you. Pl have look at my DYK posted article Bhadrajun. I have copy edited it with my observations in the discussion page of the article. I would appreciate if you could resolve the issue. Thanks.--Nvvchar (talk) 18:40, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, I forgot to give the reference to Korzok draft article. It is at User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Kalpeshwar. --Nvvchar (talk) 00:48, 23 November 2009 (UTC) ‎
Thanks for the copy edit to Bhadrajun article. I hope it goes through. The photos were originally under non-trasfer category and I requested Andreas to change them and he readily obliged. But others have refused. I find that you have transferred the draft article from user page to main space to the stub artcile. I have expanded it further. I think it is now ready for posting on DYK as our joint effort. What about Khursha article? I have noted your observations on the Articie Architecture of Sikkim. I will change it soon. Thanks. --Nvvchar (talk) 18:27, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
In the Info box and also in the text, I have corrected it to re-built since the older version of the Korzok Monastery was first built more than 300 years back, as per the narrated history. The other alternative we could consider is to put a question mark after the year. What do you suggest?--Nvvchar (talk) 01:36, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I agree. This sentence, "It is said that the nomads were exploited by the Monastery as they were paid very meager payments for the services rendered, and hence the place was given the name 'Korzok' (meaning: acquired by unfair means)" should be moved to Etymoloy section in a separate para with addition of the word 'also' or even deleted if you feel it is not appropriate. Thanks --Nvvchar (talk) 16:01, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I will nominate it as a joint artcile. But I always have problems in putting the names of two authors (messed up in the past trials) in the DYK hook under Authors. Will you please explain to me the correct procedure (with an example here)? I am now expanding the Rizon Monastery article (on my user sand box page), which you started some months back. It is almost ready. It is better that I post it for your review on your return from the hoildays. Wish you a happy "Thanks Giving Holidays". By the way, one of your friends User talk:Calliopejen1 has shown interest in the article (after seeing it on your page) on Adlaj Stepwell. He has put in a few pictures also in the draft. Do you mind if I request him to nominate it? Best wishes for an eventful holiday.--Nvvchar (talk) 21:53, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

I started expansion of the article on 20th and I feel it is now ready for posting on DYK with names of all three Users {yourself,John Hill and me) as joint contributors. What do you say? You could please do it with a suitable hook. Thanks.--Nvvchar (talk) 01:32, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Belated reply[edit]

I don't think you have a lack of topics to write on, but I'll just mention a couple before I forgot:

  • History of train network in Bolivia.
  • Dalol potash deposits in Ethiopia.

I was asked to cleanup or expand them, or something, and found (for myself) some history behind. Some combinations of science, culture and history motivate me to write; this is where we might cross. I have some interest in Russia, Japan and Europe perhaps because I know those regions and their languages better. Materialscientist (talk) 02:30, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

New Brunswick Map[edit]

I need some help with this map Template:Location map Canada New Brunswick you have much more experience with location maps then i do. Anyway the problem is when i use the map on an article, I input the correct coords but the red dot locator is always off by quite a bit and i have only noticed it on the New Brunswick map the other provinces seem to be fine. For example Coles Island, New Brunswick has the correct coords but obviously the red dot is off. If you could help me with this problem i would be very grateful. File source problem with File:Vivian Rich.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Vivian Rich.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 07:09, 24 November 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Thirdship (talk) 07:09, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

AWB[edit]

Sure - I'll have a look tonight and see what I can come up with. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:37, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Tell me about it. I've been creating the years-by-country categories for some time now; there's a lot that's missing there. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:37, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Well, a lot of things are under-categorized, too, I've found; some of that is merely a matter of adding cats where they weren't before. Like the older Olympics articles; a lot of them aren't listed under "[year] in [country]", for instance.
Speaking of things that should have been written by now...Johann Friedrich Peter. Why is there an article in German and nothing in English? He was an American composer, after all... --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:47, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Well, here's the funniest one I've come across yet: Charles Sanford Skilton. I started the English-language article independently of either the German or Dutch versions (and corrected an error I found in both in the process, actually). It's weird, though, because he's not even that well-known in the States. And there isn't a lot of his music committed to disc, so far as I can tell. Looks like it was just one person with a particular interest in the subject who started the one or the other article. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:16, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
I just looked - the error's still there in the Dutch article. Perhaps this afternoon I'll fix it. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:42, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Fixed it. And well-played...didn't think you'd find one. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:55, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
I didn't even know there were that many. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:05, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Enjoy - I'll see what I can do in the next couple of days. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:41, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

László Németh and Gábor Preisich[edit]

Sure, we will have a look at those in the next couple of days. György Györffy was listed for the Herder Prize too (in 1988 IIRC) but does not appear on the list. I don't know really where one would find that out— Google hits are largely mirrors of Wikipedia, as far as I can tell.

Out of interest, why do you care so much for the Hungarian articles? I don't think you are Hungarian or have much direct relation to the country. Or is it more that you are interested in a subject field and encompass whatever the nationality is? Si Trew (talk) 16:03, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

We've had a look at both of these, prepping to translate, but time wounds all heels and we have not actually made the translation yet.
At the Gabor Preisich article, there are lists of works. The buildings designed are of the following form:
Year. Budapest XXXXX. some text. (Name name).
I am not sure how best to convert this. First, I am not sure if the year should come first, though it seems sensible really to do it that way. (But in the following section on books, the year comes last.) The XXXXX is a Roman numeral indicating the district of Budapest. We are not sure what the name afterwards means. It is a personal name. I dunno if it means the person who commissioned the work, or who carried out the work, or what. If you have any clue, given the hints I have given you, could you please let us know? We can of course just translate the names verbatim but am not sure of their significance.
That leads me to another point, which is that this translation malarkey is not easy. Which is why it takes quite a while to translate what might seem like a straightforward article, after we do searches for terms, make sure we have the right people when we are wikifying, and so on. (And no doubt still get it wrong sometimes.) So, while I am glad you take an interest in these articles, may I suggest you feed us no more than one every two weeks. That way, we can get our own projects done on the battles of the 1848 revolution rather than spending all our time translating your own fancies. It is my own fault for saying it is nice to be fed on demand, but we do have our own projects too. Of course if there is anything particularly urgent that needs translating, we would be willing to do do so at least as a rough sense of the meaning we could post to your talk here.
Very best wishes Si Trew (talk) 12:02, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
The Németh article is quite long and laborious to translate. We can do it, but it will take a little time (likely to finish this weekend). In the meantime, we would prefer it if you held off editing it, beyond obvious typos etc. For example, your added info that he died was already present in the lead and the infobox, and yet there was much more info that needed to be placed into this section, we had only got about half way through it. You omitted, for example, that he died from (of?) a stroke. Well, it can be counterproductive to then add that information as if it were translated, since we had to translate it properly anyway.
Similarly, we can't see why you removed the {{Expand Hungarian}} and {{Under construction}} tags, since it was we think quite clear that there was more information that needed to be expanded. And the former template quite clearly says that having expanded the article (which I take to mean, as fully as one intends to) then a template should be placed on the talk page. You didn't do this, and you can't have your cake and eat it: if you want to expand the remaining parts of the article go ahead, but you did request us to do it, and we were surprised – to put it nicely – that you had removed these tags when we were just taking a couple of days' break to have some real life.
Best wishes as always Si Trew (talk) 16:55, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
We've finished the Life section and I have split into his literary and non-literary careers, of course this breaks the chronological order but on the other hand seems to me to keep the two subjects separate, as indeed he seemed to (he did not write on dentistry, for example). We just have to do the "Works" now, and probably will cut that quite a lot, since one critique of one work (Isymny) is almost a whole sheet of A4 which seems way too long for an overarching biog.
I've just edited the other one to put the awards in the Herder Prize. At Németh, the pic in the infobox was deleted from Commons as not meeting the licence criteria (see chat under my username at Commons) but we see you added it back in. Let it have its fate, whichever way it is. The others should be OK as original authors' work.
Part of the reason it takes so long is we have to check all kinds of literary links, many of which are not in HU:WP so have to check all kinds of other sources to make sure we have it right. Thanks, yes I think we have done a good job so far. User:Monkap is going to do the rest of the translation during the week and we'll put it in at the weekend, she only has Apples during the week and has no accents, so she might as well dictate it to me and we do the accents and linking and anglicising during that stage, which seems to work well for us.
You may want to check Attila József to which I have added a basic {{Infobox writer}} but if there is more info that can be put in that, it might be useful for you to do it. He also has a prize named after him, but Attila József prize (which Németh won) is a redlink. I think the English on that article is a bit out of kilter, too, but don't really want to tidy it up now. Just the Hungarian sticks through a bit into the English, it doesn't run very naturally to my eye.

The Grim Reaper[edit]

Hi Himalayan, what a surprise to find our paths meet again. I was doing some cleanup work in museum categories, when I discovered some of your stubbing work in Greek museums. After much searching I came to the conclusion that most of the following topics have been pronounced as museums for the first time in Wikipedia. If you wish to check on my notability determining method, here is the work page: User:Hoverfish/Sandbox. One more member of WP Museums is helping develop stubs that are worth developing. Anyway, here is the first batch, all for speedy A3, with the additional characteristics that most were found to be not museums and of low importance even as non-museum items. The rest are way too unimportant, and sufficient information to build even a basic stub is not available in the internet.

Sorry for the loss of editing time, but I reassure you I spent more time searching for information than you did creating the stubs. So what the heck. Anyway, any suggestions on my cleanup work are welcome, as I have lots to do still, hopefully with few rejects. Cheers. Hoverfish Talk 17:41, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

I had a look at your DYK page. It's really great work you did! I am all for developing articles and not glad to delete anything that has even a slight chance of growing. The round I did was to get the very impossible topics out so I can make a priority list, based on which we can start developing. I noticed that a new participant usually starts alphabetically, and bumping on a couple of impossible ones, with time spent to find almost nothing is enough to discourage him. So I'm checking with all official pages, tourist guides and what not to bring the most important ones up top in the list. But as you remember I'm also for small things, provided we can develop them. Another issue: a few I noticed you mentioned as museums are actually a part of an existing museum, in which case I might suggest a merge if there is not enough material. But there are some that can be developed though not as a museum. The Delta House Museum is not a museum, but houses the Historical Archives Department of the Benaki Museum and according to the official site it is part of the Benaki Museum. Yet by itself, as "The Delta house" or "The Delta mansion", it is an architectural notable building, which connects with the biography of Penelope Delta. So in this case it would be best to move to a title without "museum" and develop it for what it is by itself. Anyway, when I am done with setting up a priority list, I will let you know. Hoverfish Talk 18:38, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Don't worry so much about the archeology as they are bound to be developed soon. They are all notable by definition. My only concern is about some of the minor folk museums. I have lived in the countryside and know Argalasti and some other villages in Pilion, and therefore I know from personal experience that these "museums" are just a room in the city hall or primary school where they have a few old but common items. It's really just a way of getting some pennies from the government, which is fine by me, except I have rarely seen a tourist interested to look in there. Doubtlessly there are also some worth mentioning, so I am extra careful in this lot. Hoverfish Talk 18:57, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

About Kastro Ioanninon[edit]

Hi, if you zoom into Google Earth 39°40′30″N 20°51′35″E / 39.67500°N 20.85972°E / 39.67500; 20.85972, you see the famous Kastro Ioanninon (=Castle, not related to Fidel). Here is a map to help with what you see in Google Earth: [10]. There are two "acropolis" (fortresses), one on the NE part, where the famous Aslan Pasha Mosque is situated (#2 in map). In the SΕ fortress are the Fetihie Mosque (#18), the Tomb of Ali Pasha (#19) and the Byzantine Museum of Ioannina (#20) (see to the right of the Fetihie mosque). There are also other structures in the Kastro, West of the NE fortress, one of which is the Soufari Sarai (#28) and the Turkish library (#27). The Soufari was denied deletion, though I am absolutely positive that the only notable museum in the Kastro is the Byzantine one [11]. My suggestion is to move the page to Soufari Sarai and let it for any future use on "historic buildings", or any such direction. What do you think? Hoverfish Talk 11:31, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Latest update. Here I found an article stating that there are three museums in the Kastro [12]: one is the "Byzantine Museum of Ioannina", one is the "Municipal Ethnographic Museum of Ioannina", inside the Aslan mosque and one opposite to the mosque, the "Museum of Fotis Rapakousis" for weapons, coins and other items. The Soufari appears here to be only a historic building. Hoverfish Talk 13:26, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Collaborations on DYK??[edit]

Also I noticed you have created a DYK nom with Nvvchar about a Ladakhi monastery. I and Nvvchar have collaborated on DYK articles in the past. We (Nvvchar, you and me) can come together and create DYKs. I have identified some candidates:

I do have photos for the same. --Redtigerxyz Talk 15:38, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Wen Yunsong PROD[edit]

Hi, you removed the PROD from this article saying that there were plenty of sources to show notability - and yet you haven't added any. Do you wish to do so to cement notability; if not I'm going to take it to AfD. Regards, GiantSnowman 19:48, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Take it to AFD if you must. He is a notable Chinese businessman. Himalayan 11:37, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Ratha Saptami[edit]

Hi! Welcome back. I had started this article at the suggestion of User:Redtigerxyz for a special occassion posting in January 2010. Anyway, since you have copy edited and posted it already it is fine. Plasse see Redtiger's suggestions on my talk page to work om Monastery articles (he has suggested three) with us jointly. You may like to send him a message. Did you see the draft article at User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Tungnath? It is complete from my end. You may like to shift it to mainspace and post it as a joint article. I am working on Kathmandu article expansion. I will do it after I go back to India early next month.

You have left out my name in the nomination. I thought it was a joint effort since the artcile is transferred from my sand box. Will you please make the changes? Thanks.--Nvvchar (talk) 23:22, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. How do you want to proceed with the artciles suggsted by Redtiger? I can do it in the next few days.--Nvvchar (talk) 23:37, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Please don't bother about my hurried observations. Sorry, if you have taken it seriously. I am really enjoying collaborating with you on many articles. I would love to do it in the future too. It happended because on the same day I found that another user had, even without informing me, posted my artcile Adalaj Stepwell with a DYK hook three days earlier. I posted the article without realising that it was already posted. Next day I found my DYK hook missing on the date I had posted. By that time lot of review observations were already recorded and my hook had no relevance since the reviewer (Uchucha) had already made his hook suggestions and approved the hook.

As you may have realised by now, I am not too very conversant with the computer software, which some times causes difficulty in editing. At my age, I can't learn the softwares involved in editing. I now find that my archive software on my talk page has stopped functioning. Earlier, Nichalp had helped me archive my user page. Can you help me now please? Thanks.--Nvvchar (talk) 20:10, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

AWB[edit]

Not sure if I'll be able to do anything with this for you any time soon; I had to uninstall it last night because it was giving my computer some problems. I'm going to reinstall...tomorrow, probably, as I'll be out tonight. We'll see if that helps matters at all. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:41, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Well, we managed to get rid of the virus that was causing so much trouble, but I'm afraid it may have corrupted AWB in the process. The computer seems to be working fine now. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:45, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
I can do it myself once I get AWB running again. If it's not working by the end of the night Tuesday, I'll let you know. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:57, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
OK, I've done a few things, including fixing most of the redlinks; looks like a couple need to be filled, and I'll get to that in a bit. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:07, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
