DYK for Kathmandu[edit]

Updated DYK query On January 1, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Kathmandu, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Cirt (talk) 03:42, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Congrats. I was not even aware that you had posted the article on DYK. I was pleasantly surprised to see it on the main page today, on the first day of New Year 2010. Sitting in Switzerland, in almost similar climatic conditions as in Kathmandu, you must be having a great time. Wishing you a very very happy new year and hoping to continue our collaboration for many more artciles in the furture. The logical conclusion to this article would be a GA status. We will work for it. May be, we may meet in India during this year! Cheers.--Nvvchar (talk) 05:46, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Question on the deletion of Uncited Material[edit]

Hi there. There is an instance where I had added uncontroversial material for which I did not have any citation at the time but I am entirely sure about. In instances like these is it usual for edits to be reverted without reasonable time to find references. Can you please answer here? Thanks. 88.201.1.30 (talk) 12:48, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Where possible we should cite WP:RELIABLE SOURCES. It depends really. A lot of unsourced material get added to articles on like towns and places all the time and a lot of it is not removed. However if you add unreferenced material to WP:BLPs it is far more likely to be reverted unless you source it.. Is there something you'd like me to restore?. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:53, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

I am extremely grateful for your offer but the article is a little trivial for your assistance. I am just going to wait and watch. I will also check the book I need to cite from a rare books library. Besides, I suspect the two people who reverted the edit MAY be involved in sockpuppeting or meatpuppeting. So I need to keep a watch on that. Thanks anyway. I edit using IP s so that I can experience what a non-resistered user experiences. I must say my experiment has been enlightening. 88.201.1.30 (talk) 18:27, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the help Blof. This guy seems to think he is God and everything is up to him to decide. He was also reverted on the Cillian Murphy page. It seems no one really agrees with him but he is doing things as though the decision was purely in his hands. ShahidTalk2me 12:37, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

McDonald's Cycle Center FA[edit]

Thanks for your involvement in the development of McDonald's Cycle Center, which has become an WP:FA in recent months.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 00:22, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Mattu Pongal[edit]

I am glad to see you back from your holiday break. Thanks for the instantaneous assessment. I have been quite busy, as usual. --Nvvchar (talk) 14:14, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Next one[edit]

My next few WP:FACs are likely to be Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Inauguration of Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, John Beilein, 2008–09 Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team, and McCormick Tribune Plaza & Ice Rink. I would say that the last three of these six are in most need of a c/e and reorg. The latest PR on the last one had some issues unresolved because reorganization is not my strong suit.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:35, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

P.S. my next WP:GACs are likely to be 2009 Big Ten Conference football season and 2009 Michigan Wolverines football team after the season comes to a close. Either could use a c/e. Also, current GACs Tai Streets, Red Tail Project and Red Tail Reborn would not be hurt by ces, but are less needy than the aforementioned. Thanks for the offer.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:39, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Another article that badly needs attention although it has a lot of encyclopedic content is Rob Pelinka, which could use a reorg and ce before an FAC run.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 22:35, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Just got your response. If by Chicago articles you mean WP:CHIFTD, McCormick Tribune Plaza & Ice Rink needs a ce and Millennium Park needs further development. If you meant WP:CHICAGO articles in general, Michelle Obama and Rob Pelinka both need help, the latter especially.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 22:40, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Yes McCormick could use your assistance. Take a look at the last PR, which closed with several unresolved issues.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 23:01, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
McCormick Tribune Plaza & Ice Rink is probably the next one from that topic. It will need some work. Please come by and help out.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:44, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
The major sources used for construction of other features, don't elaborate on this one. Not each feature in the park has construction details. Not sure what to do.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 16:17, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
I have added minimal planning and design content. So far, that is all I can find. What do you think?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:22, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
The problem is that since this was the first feature in what has become an important park (because it is the city's 2nd leading tourist attraction) is that Millennium Park was more of a vision at the time this was constructed. Finding details of its construction might be like finding details on the early stages of construction of your neighborhood playground. Nothing before its December 2001 grand opening is really well documented at this point.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:35, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
I know the Chicago Public Library does not carry item number one in this search and neither does Borders, but it does carry item number two, which has been helpful in many other architecture articles. I will pass by the Library tomorrow. I will also try to find the other three. Our best hope may be this April 2010 release.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:42, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
I am actually going to stop in at Borders today to check on some of these, since it is much closer.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:48, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Ah, yes[edit]

You still have the agent with the knife in the shoe gizmo? I have frankly lost interest in the project as various populated places are being deleted right and left. If the project doesn't want what we give it, why give it more? It seems to want more 2-bit songs by 2-bit has-been "artists" who happened to get as far on some "reality" show that Simon got to yell them off. Lovely. Bloody lovely. I did manage to pop over the holidays to your side of the pond. London is so expensive. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 22:24, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Maf, Shamkir, because GEOnames is not infallible. On that basis, we should delete all places not mentioned in the Bible, because all else is fallible. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 22:52, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Stub types of Finnish provinces[edit]

Greetings! Two or more stub types which you created have been nominated for renaming or deletion at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The stub type most likely doesn't meet Wikipedia requirements for a stub type, through failure to meet standards relating to the name, scope, current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Please feel free to make any comments at WP:SFD regarding this stub type, and in future, please consider proposing new stub types first at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals! Am totally in agreement - but not sure what I can do, and whether it will stick. If it's something I need to add to an admin-locked file or something, probably best to let me know where and what :) Thanks. Orderinchaos 16:56, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Does this still need anything? As I said I'm happy to act if I know what action needs to be taken - Mediawiki stuff isn't my forte but I have done it before when pointed to the right file or a decent set of instructions. Orderinchaos 05:50, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
Do you know anyone with a bot that can strip the links? There is going to be a bit of a disaster if the page is blacklisted - new editors won't be able to save/edit any articles it's on unless they themselves remove the link. Also I need a link to the discussion where consensus was obtained - I've searched and can't find it anywhere, even though I know it exists as I contributed to it not more than a week ago. Ugh! I read through it and found one site online referring to it. It no longer exists and the building that housed it is offices of the Secretary of Health and still contains the hospital's old records. Notability issue? Looks to be the first insane asylum for women in Mexico City, it was later moved to another hospital that looks like it still exists.I had never heard of it and Ive been on Donceles street many times.Thelmadatter (talk) 23:04, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Jay Pritzker Pavilion/archive1‎[edit]

Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Jay Pritzker Pavilion/archive1‎ is open and could use some commentary.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 03:39, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

It would probably be most helpful if you made your comments at the link above where the attention of concerned parties is focussed right now. I am going to move them and respond.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 13:03, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
I have responded at the FAC. I will be in and out much of the day, so don't be surprised if I don't respond quickly to any commentary you make.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 13:45, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Got your comment regarding the images. You need to make such commentary on the FAC where it is being worked out by all concerned. Since your comment is mixed in with so much personal stuff, I am not going to move it. Please comment there and we can hash everything out.
P.S. all that weightlifting stuff was from the 1980s. I am now an old injured guy who can't impress anyone except maybe with brainpower when I get lucky. I am more likely to do something impressive on the efelt of online poker. Most recently, I went eight days in a row of winning more money than my tournament entry fees. A streak half that long is pretty impressive.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:17, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Did you voice your opinion on a preference between the overhead view and the side view as the second main image? I pointed out a higher quality image in the FAC that is from the side but which also gives perspective of the whole structure.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:32, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Re: Dong Xuan Market[edit]

I'll expand that article. Regards. Grenouille vert (talk) 09:19, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

About the list of "greatest" guitarists, I know the Rolling Stone's poll makes a lot of people upset but that's really the reason why I want to keep the article, so that readers can understand the real value of that poll (from its criticism). In fact I've tried to find more criticism but could not find anything valuable, I think if we can add more opinions about the poll (from reliable sources, of course), it would be better than merging or deleting the whole article. Grenouille vert (talk) 12:58, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Calm down, calm down :). Take a look at the list of TIME at the end of the article, you will find an even more ... ridiculous list, but it was published by a respected (well, in a way) source, so we have to accept it as it is. But we need an article about the real value of those lists, so don't take the word "greatest" too hard, its content will tell more than its title, "clothes don't make the man", you know :). (I, unfortunately, cannot play guitar, but I assure you that I don't admire those lists, not at all)Grenouille vert (talk) 13:27, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
You make me feel really guilty about ... not finding enough reliable criticism for that article :). Let community decide that article's fate, though. Thank you very much for your encouragement, I'll try my best! Grenouille vert (talk) 14:26, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
I've expanded the Ham Long & Cua Bac Churches (not much, but I cannot find many online sources about those churches, even in Vietnamese), the Cathedral is much more difficult (long history, complicated situation,...) so I think I'll leave it for someone else with better knowledge. And thanks a lot for the recommended list of guitarists, I'll listen to them in ... writing articles about Vietnam :). Regards. Grenouille vert (talk) 22:46, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi, I'm afraid that I cannot improve Cam Ranh, writing about places is really not my line (not my interest either) and I have to take my time to write a bunch of articles about Vietnamese culture (Dong Ho painting, Hang Trong painting and so on). Sorry! You can try User:Amore Mio, maybe he can take the request (or maybe not, I'm not sure). Regards. Grenouille vert (talk) 00:25, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan[edit]

The list of the deputies is available on the Legislative Chamber's website (there is a row of alphabetical links at the bottom of that page). I could romanize their names for you no problem, but they are all given in Russian, and should probably be romanized from Uzbek (which I, of course, don't know). If there's anyone available at WP:Central Asia, I think they would be able to take care of this task much better than me. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 14:28, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

Simply mindblowing![edit]

Mindblowing music. I'm fine, and how are you? I'm now going through long discussions on the Bollywood talk page on which one user wants to add Urdu scripts to Hindi film articles. I think it's laughable. Bollywood is the Hindi language film industry. There has been a presence of poetic Urdu words in songs and dialogues. Urdu is as present as English in Hindi films, yet people try to argue that it is important enough to have a script in the beginning of an article. And I also find myself explaining why Encyclopedia Britannica's "Encyclopedia of Hindi cinema" is a reputable source. Urghh... What about you? ShahidTalk2me 17:13, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Yeh, that's tiresome. I find myself trying to prove that Hindi films are actually in Hindi! Oh God. ShahidTalk2me 19:01, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Eastwood[edit]

I asked the author to let us use that image back in April of last year, and they just now got back to me. I don't mind the wait, since it's a quality image of him facing forward. He's been quite the elusive person to get a free image for, I've sent out multiple requests to various authors. When I added the image to the article, I was amazed at how much more developed it is. Great job, the article definitely needed to be expanded. We'll see what celebrity images come along next. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 23:44, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Wow, Eastwood's life gets longer and more entertaining to read! Keep it up and it could one day be a good/featured topic for the various articles and possibly the filmography (if those include lists?). It will also be helpful if there are other biographies out there to use for sourcing so the articles don't only rely on the one book (although that book is quite the resource!). That's right, I forgot about the other book. That's a good idea to go through and replace some of the citations with the other source. I don't think all of Eastwood's films need to be FAs (of course, I'm not going to stop someone if the want to do it!), but there are definitely a few that deserve it. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is one of WP:FILMS' core articles, so that film definitely would benefit with being an FA. Maybe a few more westerns, a Dirty Harry, and some of his directed films would be a good start though. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 00:05, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

The Avengers[edit]

I looked at the site and the wiki site and I am not sure what I could contribute other than rewrite the episode list with added synopsis but it would take a long time. I have a book with the transmission dates which are probably ABC midlands who had the franchise at the time. I am still trying to do the Invisble Man but got sidetracked by Whiplash (TV series) which I had been waiting years to see again. I have watched 14/34 and it is stirring some memories from when I saw it as a boy, just as I watched most of The Avengers.--REVUpminster (talk) 00:11, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Pushkar[edit]

Thanks. Incidentally, last week I have posted my article on Junagarh Fort for GA assessment. But no body has been assigned yet to review it. I was wondering why my comrade has not messaged me for quite some time. I am in the process of drafting a large article titled "Buddhisst Monatseries in Himachal Pradesh". I will post it on my user page shortly for your collaboration in expanding and fine tuning it. I am also expanding Alchi Monastery but that will be ready by end of next week. After that, I will take up Pushkar. I have lot of references on Pushkar Lake, which I had used for my article for ILEC on "Lake Management in India".--Nvvchar (talk) 15:07, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

I have prepared the first draft on Buddhist Monasteries (Himachal Pradesh) here User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Saptha Badri. You may like to join me in expanding it for joint posting on DYK. I will add more text tomarrow. I an sure you will like the subject.--Nvvchar (talk) 17:21, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
I have completed my inputs at User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Saptha Badri. You are free to edit and nominate it on DYK with a hook and a good img of your choice.--Nvvchar (talk) 07:00, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
When I added the Archaeology and the 'Exile capital' sections, it did strike me that I should change the title to what you have rightly suggested now. I expected some sections would attract WP:Undue tag. Wiser counsel has prevailed. I will find some text for the festivals though I have added a small para in the last section. I had started working on Alchi but I will hold it now to add more text on Buddhist festivals in Himachal. --Nvvchar (talk) 13:27, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
  • Festival section added.--Nvvchar (talk) 15:27, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
  • You are right. Hemis is in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir. It has to be deleted from this article.--Nvvchar (talk) 16:50, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Earthquake[edit]

Agreed. Especially about the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Port-au-Prince - what's been little-remarked-upon there, even in the media coverage of the quake, is the loss of an incredible mural program at the church. It was completely decorated by local painters...it's even in one of my art books at home. I'll send you a scan or two later this evening.

Though to be fair, Haiti coverage online isn't the best to begin with - I was trying to look up Fort Alexandre earlier, and can't find hardly a thing out there.

By the way, the home computer's back up, so I finished Lesotho the other night. Not sure where I'm going from there... --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:16, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Palace of the Marqués del Apartado orphan status[edit]

Dunno if youre an expert in templates, but if youre not, you know who is. I just created the page today Palace of the Marqués del Apartado. A short time later, someone stuck an orphan tag on it. I checked and only three pages link to it. Thing is, at the bottom there's a template that is supposed to link this page with the other landmarks of the Historic center of Mexico City in part to avoid this problem. It seems to link together the other pages that are listed but not this one. (Yes I put the page on the template.) Thanks.... Thelmadatter (talk) 02:08, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Ah I see, the links through the template box are collapsed into one line. I didnt see that.Thelmadatter (talk) 14:31, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Articles for deletion nomination of Rosalind Richards[edit]

I have nominated Rosalind Richards, an article that you created, for deletion. AfD nomination of Rosalind Richards[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Rosalind Richards. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rosalind Richards. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Clint Eastwood[edit]

Wouldn't you agree that the "early career" section should be condensed? Seriously, you won't find more than a stub for the 1950s film that he made uncredited cameos in, yet there are over 20 paragraphs about them on his page. Discussing plots, production, etc. This belongs on the page for those movies, not on Eastwood's. The same thing goes for the Dollars trilogy - nearly 50 large paragraphs that cover a total of three films. There's not even that much written on the articles for those movies. There is too much written in those sections - it's uneven and doesn't fit with the rest of the article. This has been brought out before on the talk page but no one writes anything on there. Please help me improve the article.66.233.23.3 (talk) 09:12, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Response to your post on my discussion page[edit]

I'd like to see that. But don't you agree that the 50s section is very bloated and needs to be condensed? It doesn't make sense to have pages and pages written under the 50s section, and hardly anything written in the 60s-00s section, especially since those years are much more important to his career. We don't need to list his every move, just his important films.66.233.23.3 (talk) 09:16, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

I see your point, but not all of that information needs to be listed. If the article was "full-balanced" in the same style as the "Early career" section, it would be way too long. It's already to long anyway. That section needs serious condensing. It shouldn't be longer than the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s or 00s sections are - it is about ten times longer though. It shouldn't even be half as long.66.233.23.3 (talk) 09:20, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Colnbrook[edit]

Sorry, put the following on my talkpage instead of yours for some reason:

Charming fellow. We had a couple of similar folks in the States - H. H. Holmes for one. There was also a fellow in Kansas who kept a murder inn of some sort...he used to cosh people over the head with an axe, though. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 06:10, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

So I see. Oh, well - keep your head down. Don't worry about it - I think there's a strong wind blowing in the opposite direction at the moment. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:22, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Well, I'm pretty much the biggest inclusionist you can imagine - I'm very lenient in accepting a standard for notability. Thing is, I'm never sure where the line should be when it comes to musicians. So I tend to stick to more quantifiable things (speaking of which, I began work on Ecuadorian cantons last night), or things which have appeared in at least one encyclopedia of some sort at some point. (Look at some of the stuff I pulled out of John Tasker Howard...there's absolutely nothing online about any of them, and yet there they are in print). I don't like getting involved in notability debates for actors and musicians because I find the line is so blurry. Sports, either - I know little about the mechanics of each profession. I guess I'll stick to gazetteering for the nonce. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:22, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Right - will do tonight. I'll respond to your other post in a bit; I've got a few RL things I need to work on at the moment. (It never rains but it pours.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:08, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Almost forgot - don't worry about talkpages. I'll AWB those once I'm done with the articles. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:14, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for reminding me about the canton redlinks. That shouldn't be too difficult to manage with AWB. The other stuff you've requested I can do pretty quickly, too.
Regarding the notability debate - I'm quite happy to have the articles about bloggers, comics artists, and the like, so long as they're a.) properly sourced, and b.) can establish notability. One of the things I like about Wikipedia is the sorts of people about whom we can have articles. Such as Ida Lewis and Stephen Pleasanton. You're not likely to find either in a traditiona encyclopedia, but they're both vital to the history of lighthouses in the United States. And it's the same for a lot of new media personalities, Internet celebrities, and the like.
I'm not opposed to deletion, when it's warranted; I do wish, sometimes, that people would pay a little more attention to the stuff they're nominating. --17:46, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh, yes - well, there I agree with you. There's entirely too much cruft in a lot of places. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:03, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Right. I'll add it in in a little while. And yes, that one I didn't do because I didn't see any data; once I'm done with the others I'll look for more information.
As to articles like you describe, I'd be quite happy if they were killed with fire. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:26, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi[edit]

It's been a long time since we've talked... I'm sorry I never responded to you earlier. I hope there are no hard feelings. Lately I've been really angry about this whole BLP mess. If you haven't put your two cents in at the RFC you should - I normally try to avoid drama but this seems worth it to me. (Now I know why I should stop ignoring the Arbcom elections and all those annoying notices they put up. I guess only the fanatics are voting, so we end up with a fanatical arbcom.) Anyways I've been going through your list of unreferenced BLPs to add references to save them from potential deletion. I found one today that I couldn't reference and seems non-notable so I put it up at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Otillio Arellano. Hope all is well! Calliopejen1 (talk) 16:38, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

By the way I changed the photo on that actor article because the new photo is PD and the old one was not. Calliopejen1 (talk) 16:44, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I didn't intend to be harsh or anything. As for the image deletion I just use a script for notifications and don't even pay attention to who the uploaders are. And the prod was because I watch your talkpage... I had opened up that article in another tab and later hadn't even recalled how it got there. I just added my two cents without even remembering it was your article. Anyways I agree that there are a lot of crap articles that should be deleted, but that on the other hand it's ridiculous to be deleting things just because they're unsourced. I was so mad at arbcom for endorsing rogue admin deletions, that's all. (And then some admins' secret plot where they provided a list of unwatched BLPs to a banned user, so that he could vandalize them, presumably to increase their evidence for the need of deletion? Don't get me started. It's goddamn ridiculous, all this drama.) Myself, I've been working through my unsourced ones and some of yours. I've probably done about 100. Calliopejen1 (talk) 17:55, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
The reason I'm sourcing yours is that I know they're notable! (Or at least 98%...) I did a full AFD on Otillio Arellano because I don't know anything about architecture in the Philippines and didn't want to be embarrassed if he was notable after all. The Ecuador cantons project could be good. There's very little on Ecuadorian geography here. I noticed browsing the cantons that Chordeleg and Sigsig (I think this is missing an accent) are redlinked. These are towns with very important craft traditions near Cuenca, the city where I was living. I'll have to write the articles eventually. Trae Lindley[edit]

Hi. I noticed you converted my PROD to an AFD for Trae Lindley. Is this because of the current issues with BLP? If so, I can understand why you've chosen to go this route. I am not at all comfortable with this current push to purge BLP material and articles due to referencing deficiencies. In the case of Trae Lindley, I really did try to find sourcing to establish notability. One never knows with the fickle tastes of the public what will catch on and (surprisingly) pass notability. But in this case, there's really nothing there.

That came out a little wrong. It implies I don't normally try to source stuff before deleting and that's not what I meant. As with any article I contemplate putting forth for deletion, I did try to find sourcing for Trae Lindley. -- Whpq (talk) 19:17, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Catalonia[edit]

Thanks for inviting me to the interwiki project regarding Catalonia. Yes I want to join, what shall I do? In the next months i plan to create several articles regarding the catalan city of Igualada, where I was born, and regarding other catalan topics. --Jordiferrer (talk) 00:06, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Leona and more[edit]

It is funny LOL... So sorry friend I was sure I replied to you and only now do I see I actually didn't. I think she looks quite good but she is by no means beautiful. She sings well.

Awesome job on Clint Eastwood's article. But if you asked for my feedback, I'd say that although all the sub-sections, each one for a new film, are great, they makes the article look a bit overloaded and may detract from the flow of the prose. What do you think? ShahidTalk2me 20:23, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Great working plan. If you need any help, you know where you can find me.:) ShahidTalk2me 21:32, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Ecuadorian parishes[edit]

As far as I know, it's just that province. Looks like the site is run by some sort of board that may not exist in other provinces. If I find anything else good I'll let you know. It's quite extensive huh? Calliopejen1 (talk) 20:44, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Now that I think about it, it might be worth emailing and seeing if they would license all that with CC-BY-SA. Who knows, they might do it. I doubt they're trying to monetize it or anything... And then we could just stick it in es.wiki, and bring it over to en.wiki eventually. Calliopejen1 (talk) 20:46, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Did you know that every parish has quite a number of comunidades? (Maybe there's a more technical term, but that's the word a friend used.) So there's even more to go! I did drink the blood (proof). You can see the slaughtering here and the bloody aftermath here. I felt sick to my stomach, watching the bull die like that. Probably 20 minutes from when they first started cutting its neck till it was dead. Drinking the blood itself wasn't too weird. Just tasted like blood I guess, same as if you bite your lip. Amazingly this has not yet made it into any guidebook, so my friend and I were the only foreigners. (I had been told about it by an Ecuadorian friend from a nearby community.) Calliopejen1 (talk) 20:58, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
BTW I don't think it should be a "parroquia". I'm not totally sure but it looks like the towns from which cantons take their names are instead "cabeceras cantonales", something at the same level as a parroquia but somehow distinct. Calliopejen1 (talk) 21:03, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
They're called "parroquias" in the Spanish Wiki, I think: es:Categoría:Parroquias de Ecuador --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:07, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Be this the one you be looking for? --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:18, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Re the name: most are parroquias, but many (most? all?) cantons have one parroquia-like place that is called a cabecera cantonal which seems to be sometimes (but not always) included in the parroquia count. This place is the bigger town in the canton. BTW I think I've found demographic info for Ecuador online in the past, don't remember where though. For Giron I got it from a PDF from the INEC website. I think they have a lot of these PDF summaries. Calliopejen1 (talk) 21:23, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Speaking of crazy traditions that don't have info available on the internet, check this out. This is a vaca loca and most nighttime festivals in Ecuador have them. It's someone wearing a cow costume thing with fireworks attached and he runs around while they explode and periodically runs out toward the crowd and you have to run away so as not to be hit by exploding fireworks. I'm trying to work up an article on this, but there's really almost nothing out there. It's amazing, too, for something so common! It's mentioned everywhere but nothing explains what it is. I guess if you're Ecuadorian you already know, and if you're not you don't care. There's something similar in Mexico but it has a different name, maybe vaquito or something like that. Calliopejen1 (talk) 21:29, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Indeed - I shudder to think. Hell, considering that Lesotho has something like fifty-odd community councils... --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:35, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
I've seen something just like that before at failblog[2]!! Must be something common?? Calliopejen1 (talk) 21:38, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps - we'll see what I manage to do this weekend. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 22:17, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Gbedu[edit]

If you suppose I know anything about drums, then you suppose erroneously. On the other hand, there seem to be plenty of sources, and I will take a crack at it. I anjoy expanding articles where I know nothing at all about the subject. But right now I am happily full of food and wine. Mañana :~} Aymatth2 (talk) 02:32, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Looking again at the sources, this is major subject, probably worthy of a featured article. My crude web scrapings may be trivial and insulting. I suppose I can do a basic expansion. I am not sure that is the right thing to do. Aymatth2 (talk) 03:33, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

I have added some content. Wish I knew more or could find better sources, but it is a start anyway. Checking the talk page, I came across this version where a bot was pointing out that the Yoruba link to a disambig should be fixed. Did that, went back to the talk page and found [this version]. Strange. Any idea what happened? Aymatth2 (talk) 18:48, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

I am not at all discriminating, and really know very little about Nigeria. A few months ago, looking for something to do, I stumbled across a request for an article on Ike Ekweremadu, which seemed an interesting name. Did that, and realized most Nigerian senators had no article, which seemed all wrong. And there are plenty of English-language sources. So I started some articles on senators, then got sidetracked into musicians, dams, federal ministers and lately governors. I am actually starting to learn something about the country, and would sort of like to complete the series with at least a thumbnail bio of all past and present senior politicians, although I wonder if they will ever be maintained. But I might drift off again into other completely different areas. Right now, real-life work is intruding on my available time for editing. Do you have a list you want improved? But see my previous comment - should I report this as a bot bug? Aymatth2 (talk) 19:11, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes, the town articles seriously need fixing. And I fully agree that Wikipedia needs more balanced coverage. To me there is much more value in articles like these than ones on obscure American actresses who anyway have lots of coverage elsewhere on the web. But you should not have got me started on drum and music articles if you wanted help on geography. Sakara! :~) Aymatth2 (talk) 22:07, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

"Cinema of Japan" template[edit]

Hi, Blofeld. Long time no see-- hope things have been well with you. If you look at recent edits to Departures (film), you'll see someone removing a lot of useful stuff. Some of this is group-insanity ("Consensus"), as appears to be the succession-box removal. But what about the removal of "Cinema of Japan" because it doesn't link directly to the film-- it links to the article on the year in Japanese film. Is this group-insanity, which we must all honor and respect ;-), or is it simple individual insanity? Because if the pitchfork-mob has decided this, then the "Cinema of Japan" and all the other templates are now useless. Dekkappai (talk) 16:34, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Yep. It would be a big loss in the ability to tie articles together meaningfully... But no big surprise the way things go around here... Dekkappai (talk) 16:56, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
