Danger
Situation that will result in serious injury or death.
Warning
Situation could result in serious injury or death. Not originally part of ANSI Z35.1, but developed in the late 1980s and introduced in 1991.
Caution
Situation could result moderate or minor injury. ANSI has a variant without the 'safety alert symbol' symbol, when only significant property damage could occur; in place of the 'Notice' header.
Notice
Situations that at worst will only result in property damage and will not result in physical injuries. The ANSI Z535.4 Caution header without a 'safety alert symbol' can be used as an alternative. This header was introduced in 1971, by OSHA, and was not a part of the original Z35.1 standard.
