The Retirement Blog was started in 2004. It is the largest blog on this topic with 1020 posts as of March 2013. Of note is that the content is focused on people aged 50 and over who are seriously planning their retirement or are already retired. In the US, 10,000 people retire each day.[2]This is a very big market that does not get much assistance or help. Very little on the Internet speaks to this audience as most content is targeted to young people.

The content was mostly written by Larry Klein who goes by the pen name "Bob Richards." [3] He is a CPA by training (certified public accountant) and Harvard MBA. He has had over 50 articles published in the financial services industry trade journals.Additionally, he has also given talks around the US to financial advisors. He created a training course that teaches financial advisors how to counsel people in retirement about their finances although he is no longer involved, he was the founder and created all of the training materials.[4] While most blogs addressing retirement focus on the narrow financial issues, this blog focuses on all financial issues including: health care expenses, social Security, income taxes, insurance (health, life and long-term care), locating a retirement planner, reverse mortgages, Medicare and Medicaid

All of the above topics are addressed in uncommon detail, not found in general publication such as the newspaper, Money Magazine, the Wall Street Journal or any financial television show.

He is the author of "Marketing Financial Services to Seniors" (under his real name). This book was to teach financial advisors how to attract retired clients.
