A direct martini or naked martini is a regular martini, but prepared by storing the gin in a freezer and then pouring the gin directly into the serving glass with the vermouth instead of stirring it with ice first. This method allows the drink to be served very cold but without the dilution that the traditional stirring method adds. This style of martini is mainly associated with and popularized by Dukes Hotel Bar in London.[1][2]
The Swedish Air Force acquired 450 Gladiator vehicles in the early 1980s. They were given the local designations Klargöringsbil 9711 and Klargöringsbil 9712, with the latter variant being equipped with a hardtop. The vehicles were modified to be used by aircraft groundcrew for mobile flight line operations in the Swedish Bas 90 system, and could carry trailers with equipment and tow aircraft. It is often informally referred to as "The Dallas Jeep".[3][4]
Dispersal air base[edit]
A dispersal air base is an airfield that is used for the purpose of dispersing air units in the event of conflict, so to minimize the vulnerability of aircraft and its supporting units while on the ground.[5] Dispersal air bases are not necessarily ordinarily operational in peace time and only becomes activated when needed. Airfields used as dispersal bases can either be auxiliary military airfields, civilian airports or highway strips. Examples of uses of dispersal bases are the Swedish Bas 60 and Bas 90 systems, the British V-Bomber dispersal bases and NATOs dispersed operating bases in France.
Forward air base[edit]
A forward air base (sometimes called satellite air base) is an airfield used to stage aircraft closer to the area of operations. This increases effective aircraft range further into the opponents territory and also improves response time to the opponents activity. Like dispersal air bases, forward air bases are often only activated when needed and can consist of civilian airports or auxiliary military airfields. Entirely new airfields can also be built for the purpose, often more rudimentary compared to main air bases in terms of infrastructure and logistical ground support. Forward air bases differs from dispersal air bases in that they are generally used for offensive rather than defensive purposes.
