Dr. V. P. Gangadharan (born 1954) is a renowned Indian oncologist hailing from Kerala (കേരളത്തിലെ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന അർബുദചികിത്സ വിദഗ്ദ്ധനാണ് ഡോക്ടർ ഗംഗാധരൻ). He currently is the head of the medical and pediatric oncology department at the Lakeshore Hospital, Kochi, Welcare Hospital, Vyttila and Caritas Cancer Institute, Kottayam (visits once per week). Government of Kerala has appointed him as the special officer for the proposed Kochi Cancer Centre. Dr. Gangadharan is the patron of the Cochin Cancer Society,which supports the poor and needy cancer patients by providing them with subsidized medicines, free counselling and related assistance. He is also one among the directors of Alpha Pain Clinic which works in the field of palliative care. He is very well known and praised for his high end professional skills and compassion and personal bondage toward his patients and their family.
Career
Dr. Gangadharan completed his MBBS and MD in general medicine from Medical College Kottayam, MD in radiation therapy from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and DM in Medical Oncology from Adayar Cancer Institute, Chennai. He also holds doctoral degree in the field of health administration (D.H.A) and fellowships from Royal Massdon Hospital, Sutton – U.K., and George Town Hospital, Washington D.C – U.S.A. He was the main figure in designing and developing the medical oncology department at the Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram and was the former head of the department.
Personal life
Dr. Gangadharan was born on August 6, 1954 in Iringalakkuda, Thrissur. He is married to Dr. K. Chitrathara, a reputed cancer surgeon specialized in gynecological, urological and breast cancer surgeries. She is the first and only lady urologist in Kerala and first uro-gyneac oncology surgeon who started the department at the Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram. His elder son holds an MBA degree from Hult International Business School U.S.A and younger son completed MBBS from the Amrita Institute of Medical Science, Kochi. Jeevithamenna athbutham (ജീവിതമെന്ന അത്ഭുതം), a compilation of Dr. Gangadharan's experiences written by K. S. Aniyan is a best seller in Kerala.
