Interview request: The newbie experience, revert communication and $10 to the WMF[edit]

I'm concluding the study related to the NICE user script (that you installed at some point), and I'd like to ask you some questions about your experiences with and ideas about Wikipedia. The questions will be related to how you interact with new editors and the way you communicate when reverting. The chat should take about 45 minutes to an hour and can happen over phone, voip(skype) or instant messenger(gtalk, ICQ, AIM, etc.). As thanks for your time, I'll donate $10 (US) to the Wikimedia foundation at the completion of the interview. If you are interested or need more information, please let me know. --EpochFail(talk|work) 16:32, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Outline of Saskatchewan has gone live[edit]

Recent outline development[edit]

Penubag,

We're trying to get some sports-related outlines started/completed, to provide an example/inspiration to the various sports WikiProjects.

Currently under construction are:

These need help.

Other outlines that have undergone substantial development recently include:

It would be nice if all the subdivisions of the 3 biggest countries in the North American continent had outlines. All the states of the US have outlines, and 2 of the provinces of Canada now have outlines. That leaves 8 provinces in Canada (and 3 territories), and Mexico's states.

Outline collaboration[edit]

Here's the latest addition to the religion section of Portal:Contents/Outlines. Wikipedia has rich coverage on this subject. Very interesting, especially from sociological and historical perspectives.

This is a call to all members of the Outline WikiProject and outline aficionados to help refine this outline. It needs annotations, missing topics added, and the entries in the general concepts section placed in more specific sections.

Come join in on the fun and get acquainted with members of the WikiProject.

User talk:The Transhumanist 04:30, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

P.S.: Penubag, I'd like to pick up where we left off on the development of a contest, if you are available. Drop me a note!

Dearest Transhumanist,
I have tried multiple times to come back to Wikipedia and edit once more, but I can no longer hold the interest. I've moved onto other projects and communities and along with my studies, all my time is nearly taken. As much as I would like to support Wikipedia, let alone the all-important outlines, I feel it would be nearly impossible for me to pick up again. Also, my main email address has been flooded with spam, so your emails (at least what I know of them) were lost. Needless to say, I am doing quite fine, I haven'd died or anything ..yet (I'll be sure to take those anti-aging remedies you explained to me :) And who knows, I may very well pick up Wikipedia once again, and this time, with full programming poweress! Anyways, feel free to contact me at my new email address (dukevinjduke(at)gmail.com) and I will be sure to reply. I am still willing to help with graphic design, so please ask me!

SVGs[edit]

Hey. I was wondering if you could create some more clocks pictures like File:Ambox currentevent red.svg (or at least update the clock) on images used for Template:Current sport? You can leave a message on my French User talk fr:Discussion utilisateur:Lppa. Thanks! → Kind Regards, Lppa Let's talk about it! 13:46, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

I did not edit any pages.[edit]

I'm sorry, but I didn't edit any pages. I have a Dynamic IP range form Verizon ISP. So, will I get banned from Wikipedia? 71.255.53.90 (talk) 02:40, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

Mystery[edit]

Please solve this mystery if you can...

On September 23rd, traffic to Portal:James Bond doubled, and has stayed at the new level since then. I can't figure out what happened.

See http://stats.grok.se/en/201109/Portal%3AJames_Bond

Traffic to Outline of James Bond stayed the same (though it was at the higher-level already), which leads me to suspect changes made somewhere in Wikipedia.

See http://stats.grok.se/en/201109/Outline%20of%20James_Bond

I'd like to find out what happened, in case it reveals helpful link placement tips that can double the traffic to outlines.

I look forward to your reply. The Transhumanist 22:13, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Annotations needed[edit]

The annotating of the entries on Portal:Contents/Outlines is nearing completion.

Annotated entries look like this:

  • Basketball – team sport in which two teams of five players try to score points by throwing or "shooting" a ball through the top of a basketball hoop while following a set of rules.
  • Canoeing and kayaking – two closely related forms of watercraft paddling, involving manually propelling and navigating specialized boats called canoes and kayaks using a blade that is joined to a shaft, known as a paddle, in the water.
  • Cricket – bat-and-ball team sport, the most popular form played on an oval-shaped outdoor arena known as a cricket field at the centre of which is a rectangular 22-yard (20.12 m) long pitch that is the focus of the game.
  • Martial arts – extensive systems of codified practices and traditions of combat, practiced for a variety of reasons, including self-defense, competition, physical health and fitness, as well as mental and spiritual development.

Entries needing annotations look like this:

Please go to Portal:Contents/Outlines' and fill in as many missing annotations as you can, even if it's only one or two. Every little bit helps!

Thank you. The Transhumanist 00:16, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Ratemyprofessorscreenshot.png[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Ratemyprofessorscreenshot.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. SchuminWeb (Talk) 04:49, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

Your HideTopContrib adjustment not working because of WP:AORC[edit]

I note you override User:Ais523/hidetopcontrib.js with your own function hidetopcontrib().

Your code (and User:Ais523/hidetopcontrib.js) is currently broken by WP:AORC (and is otherwise out of date compared to my version).

Your minimal fix is to change

li[i].getElementsByTagName("strong").length>0

to

li[i].innerHTML.match(/mw\-uctop/i)!=undefined

because WP:AORC uses <strong> for large changes.

(There may be other differences between Ais523's original or your override and my version, but I don't think they affect your override unless your li[i].innerHTML.match(/"\/wiki\/([^"]*)"/)[1] already doesn't work in some cases.) - Mark Hurd (talk) 03:09, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Thank you Mark, I will use these changes when I update my page. -- penubag  (talk) 00:20, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
