Robert Johnson was...

"one of the oldest, best, and we may add, most successful of the norther jockeys, having ridden Doctor Syntax throughout his glorious career, and been four times winner of the St. Leger Stakes"[1]

He trained and rode Gallopade for Mr Riddell, the winner of the 1832 Doncaster Cup.[1]
