An English wiki travel site started in June 2007 by Osomnimedia, a company specializing in web management and design, multimedia development, graphic arts, programming, web hosting & outsource services.
Overview[edit]
Wikiasiantravel is a collaboration of minds whose aim is to provide an up to date unbiased guide for traveling to Asia using the Wikimedia software program. However, it is not to be confused as a Wikimedia project.
The initiators were inspired by Wikipedia and saw the rationale behind having individuals participate in providing and editing information. Having a wiki format allows the fusion of research and experience to attain an unbiased source of travel information. It gives contributors an easy way to relate their experience and the travelers the tips that they need when visiting Asia.
Targeted users[edit]
The site is more for the travelers and not for scholars or those in the academe as it does not discuss the Asian countries in detail. The focus is more on helping the travelers look up the sights to see and the places to stay, dine and shop, the transportation available, and some reputable agencies which they may consult.
The site is not also for business owners who wish to flaunt their establishments or services. Although just like any wiki, vandalism and promotions may occur, close watch is done to assure that these are eliminated right away from the site.
The best people who can speak more for a country and the historical, cultural and enriching treasures held in such country are the one who themselves lives there or someone who has been there and had the experience. The main aim of the site is that it be a guide of the travelrs, by travelers for fellow travelers.
