Wrongfully Deleted (or Not)?

Hello Oshwah,

Hope this message finds you well.

I was hoping to get your help/opinion on the following. I’m writing because about two years or so back an article that was written about me and had existed for many years was deleted. The page was not initially created by me but, in full disclosure, I did correct or amended it from time to time over the years to keep the information accurate. When I noticed the page was marked for deletion, I reached out to the editor who marked it as such to ask why, explained who I was and what I just detailed above here for you. My inquiry was met with a snarky nasty response accusing me of creating the page myself, using it for self-promotion, etc. (I was just being honest and didn’t realize at the time that editing a page about me personally, without following proper guidelines, was frowned upon). Soon after, the page was deleted. Ultimately, after doing some research, I’ve come to learn more about what is and is not acceptable in this space and believe that the article that was deleted was not promotional in nature, just a listing of facts. I also think that it met notability criteria. As such, I believe the article was wrongly deleted. It also bears mentioning that the rude editor I corresponded with and who I believe deleted the page has since been dismissed from Wikipedia for misconduct. For your reference, the article in question was listed under my name, “Mark Bacino.” Was hoping you might be so kind as to take a look to see if the article as is (or an amended version) could be reinstated or if it was truly removed for proper reasons. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

@QueensEnglish: Not Oshwah, but your best venue would be deletion review. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 07:15, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
Skarmory, Thanks so much for your reply and your helpful feedback. As someone who has very little understanding of the ins and outs of Wikipedia, I find the deletion review instructions utterly baffling. Is there a way you could suggest that I might find an experienced editor to help with the process? The Teahouse? Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks again. QueensEnglish (talk) 11:14, 17 June 2023 (UTC)
Hi QueensEnglish! I apologize for such an extreme delay with responding to your messages here. Life has been keeping me very busy as of late. :-) The article page that you're referring to was deleted under G11 of Wikipedia's speedy deletion criteria, meaning that it was found to be "unambiguous advertising or promotion". You're of course welcome to use the deletion review process and have the deletion looked into, and if you need help with this, you're of course welcome to ask for it at the Wikipedia Teahouse. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them and assist you further. :-) Take care! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:25, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
Hello Oshwah,
Thank you so much for your kind reply and no apologies necessary for the delay in response. Thanks as well for looking into the article and why it was deleted. Re: the G11 ruling, going on memory, I never got the impression from the article (obviously I can no longer see it ; ) that the piece was overtly promotional. I believe it was just a descriptive listing of facts, things that the subject (me ;) had done over the span of a career to date. I was wondering if you had a chance to review the piece and if so, from your knowledgeable perspective if you personally felt that the piece was promotional in nature? Again, since the editor who deleted the article has since been removed from Wikipedia for misconduct, I still believe it was a wrongful, somewhat bias deletion simply based on the fact that I was honest with the editor and told them the article I was inquiring about was about me and so they sited a conflict of interest, etc. without letting me even explain that I didn't create the page, etc. I would love to have the page reviewed but I'm very confused as to how to go about it. I guess I need to inquire at the Teahouse for help. I suppose I'm wondering if you think it's even possible that the article could get reinstated?
Thanks again for your kindness and generosity. Hope to hear from you! QueensEnglish (talk) 04:24, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

Wishing to see the contents of drafted KidsTube.com pages

Greetings

I am trying to gather as much info as I can about a website that I used to frequent when I was younger. I notice that some users tried creating pages on Wikipedia about the website many years ago but they were deleted https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&logid=25745414 Would I be able to see the three pages that were deleted?

Thank you kindly Stapmoshun (talk) 00:10, 8 June 2023 (UTC)

@Stapmoshun You can try asking at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:18, 8 June 2023 (UTC)

Question from Salvatore Rebecchini on Farouk of Egypt (19:40, 17 June 2023)

Hello I would like to change the name of d’emilio in D’Amelio in the page of Farouk of Egypt --Salvatore Rebecchini (talk) 19:40, 17 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi Salvatore Rebecchini! There is a process you must follow in order to officially make that request. Click here for the instructions. Looking at the nature of your request, I believe that it may fall into the category of controversy. Good luck! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:05, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

A trigger of your edit filter

Hi Oshwah,

I noticed that a suspected sockpuppet ShimShamOneMan has triggered one of your edit filter on LTA editing pattern at Special:Diff/1154145091 when I investigated the SPI case Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/WorldCup2026. Could you explain to me which LTA ShimShamOneMan might be and which pattern they hit? NmWTfs85lXusaybq (talk) 10:04, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi NmWTfs85lXusaybq! Thanks for the message! On the top of my head, I don't know; I'll have to review each hit to get an understanding of the series of events and timeline. To answer your question: That LTA likely hit edit filter #53, an edit filter that I actually designed and built for Wikipedia. It's an extremely complex, in-depth, and consistently updated filter. It job is to watch edits to Wikipedia pages, and it flags LTA behavior when the attempt to save the edit is made. It runs alongside its other half, edit filter #51, which I also built. Its job is to do the same exact thing, but with 100% focus on username creations. A little... history story. These two filters stated at #51 and were combined to perform both tasks. However, the complexity of the code I put together ended up becoming so large that Wikipedia's debug tool, and the beta Wikipedia couldn't run it. Hence, they have been split into two. :-) I'll take a look at the logs this evening - I'm not sure what I'll find. Cheers :-) - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:01, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

Your IAdmin flag

Hi Oshwah, per the Interface Administrators activity requirements, you are inactive in this area. I'd rather avoid needles bitflipping if you are just going to hop over to WP:BN to turn this back on tomorrow - perhaps you could make a trivial edit to say User:Oshwah2/common.css to reset the clock - please review and ping me with if you made an edit or if you'd rather be toggled off for now (you can always ask back at WP:BN). Best regards, — xaosflux Talk 23:28, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi Xaosflux! It's been awhile! I hope you're doing well and that life is treating you kindly. Regarding the bitflip -  Done. You took the words out of my mouth in your message above. I'd like to avoid getting tied up in bureaucracy if it's something like this. Thank you for allowing me to do that. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:50, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

Study Invitation about Edit Filters

Hi @Oshwah, I came across your user page and noticed you are a manager of edit filters! I wonder if you are interested in our ongoing study that aims to understand the effectiveness of these filters. Specifically, the study try to evaluate AI models that power recent change filters, Huggle, SWViewer, and many other anti-vandal tools. Your feedback can be really helpful! If you're interested, please check out our recruitment page for more information. Thank you for your consideration! Tzusheng (talk) 18:06, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi Tzusheng! Sure, I'll be happy to help! I'll check it out tonight. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:12, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
Thank you so much! Tzusheng (talk) 00:01, 30 June 2023 (UTC)

Question about blocks

When you hide a block log, like you did recently, is it supposed to also hide the block notification in the user's contributions or is that another side effect from whatever made it always yellow? (I also peeked at your village pump section, glad to know it's not just on my end) – 2804:F14:80DB:4701:414B:6FE6:EBC8:E6F2 (talk) 23:21, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi there! A block will always appear as a block notification on the user's contributions page. The only exception is in the case where the block log for this user is rev del'd by an administrator. The only time I rev del a block log (or any log at all, really...) is if the username of the account unambiguously and grossly meets RD2 - extremely insulting, degrading, or offensive, or if the username is a serious BLP violation. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:45, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
Has that ever resulted in a situation where people reported a username thinking it wasn't blocked yet? But nah yeah that makes sense, I just thought it might have been another side effect of the colour change. There was also a case with <a /64 block>, where if I click the block log button the block just isn't there either (although it is in the admin's logs), which I have never experienced before.
I just saw all three things almost all at once and thought something was seriously broken, glad it isn't. Thanks for the explanation. – 2804:F14:80DB:4701:414B:6FE6:EBC8:E6F2 (talk) 00:08, 30 June 2023 (UTC)

Question from Haskko (10:55, 30 June 2023)

Hello! I have a question. I'm asking if I can remove an unblock request from my talk page if it's already accepted. Thank you. --Haskko (talk) 10:55, 30 June 2023 (UTC)

Haskko - If it's accepted and in the past, yes you can. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:57, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
