RevDel request

Hello, I saw your name at Wikipedia administrators willing to handle RevisionDelete requests, so I thought I would send a request your way. Starting with this edit at Titoo, a redirect, copyrighted material was added from pogo.tv/shows/titoo/about.html. Currently the page is fully protected. I was told that it doesn't really matter since it is just a redirect, but I still thought it would be worth purging. Thanks either way! ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 17:56, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

  • Oshwah let me explain the sequence of events here, so you can handle this. I obviously didn't, because I guess I didn't understand. I may have dropped the ball in the process. As Titoo, there was a request for page protection. By the time I saw it, it was a redirect, but I protected it. 1 There was a copyvio tag on the redirect, but I removed it. Didn't think it applied to a redirect. Then there was a subsequent RFPP note generated that told me not all pages in the request were protected. 2 I'm not sure if El cid, el campeador is requesting a rev del on the redirect page and its history, or if that history is now at Nipple tattoo. So, however you can take care of this is appreciated. — Maile (talk) 19:00, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
  • Oshwah (talk page stalker) Additional information: From the looks of things, someone tried to hijack a redirect (edits from 13:47 and 13:48, 1 December 2020 (UTC)), El cid, el campeador put db-copyvio on it, a bot picked that up and flagged it as seen in the page's log, another established editor reverted el cid's db-copyvio, el cid then flagged it for deletion-revision, then Maile66 reverted that edit and protected the page.[1]
  • El cid, el campeador It might help if you said exactly which revisions were copyright violations. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 20:33, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Davidwr, the specific edits are here through 991721673, when the redirect was restored by Launchballer. In any case I apologize to everyone if this all caused more confusion than help... cheers ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 20:47, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
@El cid, el campeador: So, basically just the 3 edits by 2405:... and the edit by you, all within 3 minutes of each other from 13:47-13:50, 1 December 2020 (UTC)? That should be easy enough for Oshwah to find. You can always go back and re-add a filled-out {{copyvio-revdel}} template if it's not fixed in a few days. Just put it below the #redirect line or on the talk page. If you put it on the talk page, use |details= to explain that the revisions are on the non-talk page.
Hi everyone! I managed to locate and revision delete the three revisions that contained the copyrighted content.
El cid, el campeador - Thanks for letting me know about the issue! :-) I guess I wouldn't necessarily count this as a situation (compared to most) where emailing me instead of publicly messaging me rev del requests is absolutely dire, but just note that revision deletion requests should usually be emailed to me instead of publicly messaged to me here. I have about 1000 users who actively watchlist this page, and if you've heard of the Streisand effect, I've seen in page statistics where this absolutely does happen and after users have requested revision deletion on my user talk page. Users will see the message, and then rush over to view the content before they lose the ability to see it. Obviously, this is no bueno and we should avoid it where possible. ;-) No big deal, just figured I'd let you know. :-)
Maile66 - No worries, mistakes and weird things happen. ;-) I run into things like this all the time... You receive a notice, request, or message, the page gets changed to something completely different (like an article gets changed to a redirect), and by the time you look at the page and the request, you're scratching your head asking yourself "what is this person talking about?!!" :-) You didn't drop the ball on anything; this project is not compulsory and you're never required to use your tools. I appreciate you for adding to the initial message and for providing those details. :-D
Davidwr - Thanks for requesting the specific diffs (even though rev del requests should be emailed, but oh well...). That was helpful in assuring that I was able to quickly handle the issue. :-)
According to WP:REVDELREQUEST, WP:RD1 is the one exception to the "should be emailed" rule. There's even a template for it, {{Copyvio-revdel}}, but it is awkward to use on redirect pages. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 02:42, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Cheers everyone! Have a wonderful and safe holiday, and please know that my user talk page is always open to you should you have questions or need help with anything. :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:56, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Your crazy hair makes my heart happy!

Hello Oshwah!

I hope you're well and healthy! My name is Brianne Derrah, I'm an Ojibway-Metis student at UWO and I'm part of the Endangered languages project on Wikipedia. I have some questions for you regarding legitimate sources in situations when sources that would be considered legitimate by Wikipedia's policies are few and far between. I realize that this falls under a relevancy issue, but in the case of endangered languages, I would argue that their lack of material is not a reflection of their relevancy.

In any case, I thank you very much for your kind attention and hope to hear from you soon!

Best,

BBrianneDerrah (talk) 20:00, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi BrianneDerrah! Thanks for the message. I agree that there can be "grey areas" at times in regards to the availability of reliable sources, their relevancy or "legitimacy" to the article subject, or whether or not an article subject is considered to have "significant coverage" in regards to Wikipedia's general notability guidelines. What specific questions do you have? Have you reviewed Wikipedia's guidelines on reliable sources? Are you familiar with Wikipedia's notability guidelines? We also have a new user tutorial that will be helpful for you as well. It will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. Most users who take this advice and complete the tutorial tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise. Let me know what questions you have, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Welcome to Wikipedia, by the way - and thank you for the compliment regarding my hair! LOL ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:09, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Hey there Oshwah! Thank you so much for your kind reply! I appreciate it! I've been working through the tutorials, and they're wonderful, but I still see some "grey area" that I'd like to clear up. So, in the training, it talks about not using sources from within the community/institution/whatever you're posting about. Thing is, particularly with endangered languages, the best and most reliable sources are the ones that come from within the speech community because they're the ones most likely to really care about accuracy and things like that. Additionally, there's an issue with distrust particularly among Indigenous communities because there have been so many academics marching into our communities, treating us like subjects, and then selling our data and information for their own personal gain. So it ends up being that there isn't a whole lot of research being done by academies because it's just too hard to get enough trust to get the information they're looking for. In any case, I'm just wondering if you would say that, given these circumstances, it's okay to use sources that the community itself has published since they're the most reliable. Additionally, no problem about the hair thing! You gotta love crazy hair! Thank you for your kindness, BrianneDerrah (talk) 21:02, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

What to do about this user?

Clearly a shared account, trying to promote Addictive Eaters Anonymous, but not obvious enough to report. See the talk of Addictive eaters and my talk page. See User:Vpkb2012 4thfile4thrank (talk) 20:00, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi 4thfile4thrank! I hope you're doing well and that you stay safe this holiday season! Hmm... I mean, there isn't much we can do until the behavior becomes repeated. They definitely created an article that was deleted under G11, but otherwise, they haven't edited much since then. I do note that they made this request on your user talk page asking about conflict of interest, but they haven't done anything I'd consider disruptive enough where administrative action is necessary (at least not yet). Their username doesn't appear to violate Wikipedia's username policy as implying share use or representing an organization or company.
I'd just respond to the message that the user left you, and let them know that a conflict of interest isn't something that just "goes away" or can be "resolved". If they have a personal conflict of interest with the article subject that they're trying to create (which it seems like they acknowledge that they do), that's obviously a problem. They should instead add the article to the list of requested articles and let someone else create it, and they should focus their efforts on improving or expanding the encyclopedia in areas that interest them, but where they don't have a conflict of interest. That's how I'd handle this. Of course, if the user becomes disruptive, let me know and I can handle that. As of right now, they're simply asking a question and there's no harm in that. Let's assume good faith and take this as them trying to reach out for help and understand how Wikipedia works. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:17, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
@Oshwah: What are the guidelines for reporting users for spam? 4thfile4thrank (talk) 02:18, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
4thfile4thrank - If it's blatant spam and if they've been warned and continue to do it, report them to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. That noticeboard will work fine. :-) Let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Cheers! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:46, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Looking for your opinion on an editor

Oshwah, you're an Admin I trust. I would appreciate it if you would take a look at this editor – User talk:Lonniemitchell22 – and determine if you think it's time for some kind of block (or some other action). This user has gotten a plethora of Level 4 warnings, and it doesn't seem to be changing or improving their behavior one iota... Thanks. --IJBall (contribstalk) 21:36, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi IJBall! Thanks for the message! How've you been? It's been quite some time since we've said hello to one another! I hope you're doing well and that you're staying safe this holiday season. :-)
I think you did the right thing by noting to this user in your warning that this is the last one that they'll receive, and that any more issues will result in a report being filed at ANI. A discussion at ANI would be the logical next step in resolving any further disruption by this user should it be necessary, and it will also allow the community to weigh in.
With the exception of blatant vandals, LTA users, etc that need to be blocked right away - I try not to block users after they've been given a final warning and if they haven't done anything (yet) afterwards to warrant further action - especially if the warning was actually written to them with a custom message and if the user has been here for some time. I see it as a bit unfair; we just warned them and told them that they have one more chance to turn things around and improve their behavior, and then for me to just go and block them... It wouldn't give the user (or any user) a good impression on how administrators behave on Wikipedia if we did that. ;-)
This user has a long history of warnings for disruption, and I'm surprised that this user has a clean block record. It's doubtful that the user will turn things around, but we've already set expectations with them and outlined the consequences should things continue. Keep an eye on the user if you believe it necessary to do so, and stick to your bottom line. The next time that this user causes an issue or any kind of disruption, you should absolutely file a report at ANI. Sometimes, a more powerful message than a block that you can give to a user is the act of taking the exact action that you clearly communicated would happen in a final warning. ;-)
Please let me know if there's anything else I can help you with, and I'll be happy to do so. If this user keeps things up, and if you feel that action is needed right away, don't hesitate to let me know. :-) It's good to talk to you again! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:40, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Hello, Oshwah. Just wanting to preface that I've come here from IJBall. I too have experienced issues with this user, especially seeing how several of the warnings on their talk page come from myself.
Most of my issues with them have been in regards to references, such as all the reorderings of parameters done here. That isn't much of a deal compared to some other stuff. Countless times, I've told them to be using the correct citation method, such as cite press release instead of cite web for press releases, yet continue to do just the opposite (The site in question, The Futon Critic, provides press releases, the citation in that edit being an example of one).
The user has also been warned multiple times about removing sources/sourced content from articles, most recently by IJBall here for their edit on The Outpost. Despite that warning, it seems they either haven't seen it or don't care enough to heed the warning, removing sources from List of Nick Jr. original programming just today.
I'm really not sure what should be done at this point, but it seems like any amount of warnings will not be changing their editing behavior anytime soon. Seems like now would be the time for something to be done.
Thanks in advance. Magitroopa (talk) 19:29, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
IJBall, Magitroopa - I'm filing an ANI report against this user on your behalf. You will both receive an ANI notice from me as soon as I do, so don't be frightened when you see it on your user talk page. Let's get community input and come to the right decision as to what should happen next. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:49, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Programmer Sidharth! Thanks for messaging me, and welcome to Wikipedia! Remember, we're here to build an encyclopedia. While some limited personal content is fine about yourself, user pages are primarily supposed to be on-topic and focused on improving the project. See Wikipedia's user page policy for more information - it will explain what you can and cannot have on your user page. User pages are not for advertising, and not for "creating an article" about yourself. If you have any questions about the policies that I've linked you to, please let me know. Having 1000 watchlisters

A few days ago up above you said "I have about 1000 users who actively watchlist this page". The discussion was about how revdel should be emailed to avoid the Streisand effect.

I just saw where you redacted some guy's email address. I confess I took a peek. Why? I need to make sure it's on my email's blacklist. (ok seriously no, I won't put it on my blacklist, my email provider has very good anti-spam heuristics so it's not necessary. However the domain-name, which you did not redact, is in my "mental list of likely spammers." This should be a clue to all spammers that spamming Wikipedia is counter-productive.) davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 14:07, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

I just realized the IP editor might have been joe-jobbing to tarnish the reputation of that company by painting it as a spammer. I'll move that domain to my in-head list of "likely spammers OR victims of joe-jobbing." davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 14:09, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi Davidwr! I hid that email address to avoid any potential abuse of it by other users, but it looked like a business email so I didn't think it was necessary to rev del it. ;-) And see?!! The Streisand effect exists here! That's why I have to ask users to email rev del requests to me instead of posting them here publicly... lol ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:57, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
I didn't expect a revdel, and hiding it was common courtesy - not just for the reasons you stated but I'm sure some email-address-harvesting bots used by spammers ignore the "noindex" protocols and get email example@127.0.0.1 addresses any way they can. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 15:05, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Davidwr - Indeed that is true, and I don't doubt at all that it happens here. Those lousy spambots.... lol :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:06, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
I'm going to start a draft article "1000 most notorious spammers and their lawyers" complete with the lawyers' email addresses. Just kidding! No please don't globally lock my account! Noooooo! I was only kidding! (Serious note to anyone reading this: DON'T DO IT - it probably violates all sorts of BLP and other privacy policies, not to mention WP:NOTWEBHOST). davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 15:11, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

How to edit protected pages ?

I have many times seen false information on some Wikipedia pages. Then I came to know that i can edit them, but I can't edit them. Maybe because I don't have verified account. As you have been on this for more than 14 years, maybe you can help me. Thank you ! Pruthviraj Dodiya (talk) 14:28, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) Hi Pruthviraj Dodiya, some articles are protected against vandalism, requiring certain user rights to edit them. The most common of these are for autoconfirmed and extended confirmed, which requires a certain number of days and edits to attain. Autoconfirmed is 10 edits and 4 days, whilst Extended confirmed is 30 days and 500 edits. Generally these articles have a history of abuse, or are rife for editors to "fix" them against wikipedia's policies and standards. Just keep in mind that even when you meet these requirements, you should still edit within the standards for that particular article. If there is innacuracies, you can post an {{edit request}} on the talk page of the article in question for an experienced editor to implement. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:48, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Hi Pruthviraj Dodiya! Welcome to Wikipedia. Whether or not you can edit a protected page depends on the level of protection that is currently set on it. For example, in order for you to edit semi-protected pages, your account must be at least 4 days old and have made a total of 10 edits. Right now, your account is 5 hours old and you have made 9 total edits with it - so you just need to wait a few days and you'll be able to edit those protected pages without any problems. You'll notice that the majority of articles that are protected are going to be semi-protected, so once your account is a few days old, you likely won't run into any restrictions. There are other protection levels that restrict editing to accounts with higher levels of edits or user rights, but you'll find that those aren't that common, and in time, your account will get there. You can read through the different protection levels used and their requirements in order to edit those pages by reviewing Wikipedia's protection policy. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. Again, welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad that you decided to join us! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:54, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Edit review

Sorry for the late reply, could you review the edit on Glory? A user Livelikemusic gave me a “disruptive editing” message on my talk page after I had corrected the single with being released under the reissue. There explanation of the removal was very vague. I reached out to them via their talk page and questioned it and they were once again— very vague. They told me I wasn’t following the template correctly and that I’m trying to move around it. They also need to give a more in depth explanation of why it isn’t appropriate to have in the box. Yet many users have already discussed whether the song is a single— which was confirmed to be. But this user all of a sudden isn’t allowing it to be included in the box on the album page. Which to me is odd. They had also told me I wasn’t following their “talk page rules” after I had sent them a message. Didn’t know that was a thing but okay... Please review the messages on both mine and this users talk page. For some odd reason it wouldn’t allow me to respond back to our previous conversation. Pillowdelight (talk) 22:42, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

@Oshwah: If you don’t mind me asking is it just me or is this user (Livelikemusic) clearly showing signs of lacking Wikipedia:Consensus? I also don’t feel appreciated how they immediately gave me a level 3 warning without prior reaching out to me to explain what is wrong and what is right. To me this fits me perfectly Misinformation, accidental— I’m still new and learning I’ve only been editing for 8 months and this user is treating me as if I’m a vandal. They are lacking Policy and guideline pages, good-faith changes to— they need to actually discuss this with me; telling me I’m wrong and they are right really isn’t helpful. Pillowdelight (talk) 03:48, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Pillowdelight! Sorry for the delay responding to your message here. Again, I'm not an expert with articles in this nature, nor am I an expert regarding those specific templates and when they should or shouldn't be used. If you haven't already, you should kindly explain to Livelikemusic that you feel that their responses to your input and questions are vague, and follow that statement with exact questions to the user that would help you to completely understand their position. I don't understand why they left you a level 3 warning - perhaps they can explain this? Good faith should always be assumed; you weren't purposefully disrupting the article, and there's obviously a disagreement with certain things. Just remember to remain civil and (most importantly) don't edit war. ;-) If there's previous consensus regarding your argument, make sure that you point it out to them. Remember that the dispute resolution protocol is here to help in disputes; if you two can't come to an agreement, look to that guide for what to do next. Get outside input from people who edit these kinds of articles often, ask for community input... There's plenty of helpful steps and guides in that protocol. Give it a read-through and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions or are confused about anything. Keep me posted; I'll be happy to help you with anything you need. :-) Best of luck - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:49, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

Revision deletion

Hello Oshwah, sorry to bother you again but would it be possible to revision delete some vandal edits on Jimmy Rave? I started to revert their edits so they decided to make insulting comments about anti-vandal patrollers. For examples, see [2] and [3] amongst others. Thanks! A question

Maybe this should go to a higher authority, but someone high up on the food chain ranks of respected highly trusted veteran editors might want to register this username globally, set up a "meta" page, then lock it, just as a placeholder for when that "username" shows up - albeit without a link - in logs.

Yeah, I'm being pendantic here and considered not even mentioning it, but it has just enough humor value to make it worth mentioning and, I think, worth doing. Heck, on March 32 the account could even "make an edit" - reverted immediately of course - to Main page, just to see if anyone noticed it in the edit logs. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 01:14, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Davidwr - Not a bad idea. I'll table the thought for now and see what others think. I'll ping and email some privately in order to make sure I don't put beans up my nose. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:59, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

I need to see if Mr. Chandler will write a new song, "My mommy said never put beans bean curd slices on your eyes...." "I can't read, I've got bean curd slices on my eyes..." "... turn on your text to speech ..." "... I can't hear it, I still have beans in my ears ...."
Too complicated? OK, maybe a simpler version, "My mommy said never put beans in your laptoppoweradapterport, beans in your laptoppoweradapterport, beans in your lapptoppoweradapterport, ...."
I would go on longer but I think one of my keys is sticking maybe it's mung I mean hung. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 13:59, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Deleted new page

Dear Oshwah,

I've just created a new page called Glenn Sestig. I'm really surprised to get a notification that you've deleted this page. I am curious to finding out why exactly

Thank you Have a great day

Glenn Sestig (talk) 09:35, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Glenn Sestig, and welcome to Wikipedia! The page that you're referring to was your user page, which I deleted under G11 of Wikipedia's speedy deletion criteria. This was because your userpage was focused primarily on an autobiography or promotion about yourself, rather than a userpage that's primarily on-topic and focused on Wikipedia-related items. Wikipedia is not a place for advertising and promotion, and this includes self-promotion. I recommend that you take some time and read through Wikipedia's user page policy, specifically what you may have on your user page and what you may not have on your user page. Please let me know if you have any questions about these policies and guides, and I'll be happy to answer them and clear up any confusion. Thanks for the message, and I again welcome you to Wikipedia. I'm glad that you decided to join us! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:01, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

AP9000 (talk) 13:09, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi AP9000! The GoMore article is currently not protected on the English Wikipedia. The reason that you cannot create an article on the main namespace yet is because your account is not confirmed. In order for your account to become "confirmed", it must both be more than four days old and have made at least 10 total edits. Once your account has made 10 edits and becomes 5 days old, it will become automatically confirmed. You'll be able to create the article then. In the meantime, you should be able to create a draft of the article. Simply visit this page for information and instructions, and you should be on your way without any problems. Please let me know if you have any questions or need any additional help, and I'll be more than happy to answer them and assist you. Thanks for the message, and I wish you a great day and happy editing. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:25, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Pia bajpiee did a Hindi film with “Laal rang” with Randeep Hooda in 2016, there are 1000 articles on net, whole film publicity is out there.you can check it.so how come my edit is not making any sense? Hi there! Sorry for not clarifying. I felt that the sentence itself that you added here did not make sense. It's a fragment and not a complete sentence. I didn't understand what you were trying to add or what it was trying to say. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:45, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Little Problem

Following this what do you think is the best course of action pertaining the Kaptain Kush article itself? I was thinking of using a G5 but wasn’t sure how that was gonna play out then i thought of unilaterally moving it to draftspace but figured to first ask you before proceeding. I’m in a fix now, what do you propose is the best course of action? Celestina007 (talk) 03:34, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Celestina007! Good question. If an article is created by someone who is actively evading their block or ban, a G5 is the usual way to go. However, there are instances where I haven't done this, simply because the article had high value. If it's an article where the subject is notable and would be kept otherwise, and if it's well written, I haven't been opposed to the idea of deleting it under G5 and then having someone re-create it so that the sock doesn't receive credit, but it still defeats the purpose nonetheless. We're still rewarding their efforts by keeping the article. I guess the question is this: is there a reason not to G5 the article? It's been tagged as possibly having been contributed to using non-disclosed paid accounts. This is against policy, and, like I said: Keeping it would reward their efforts. It would inadvertently teach them that the article they want to create will be kept if they put enough effort into their intentions. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:46, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Unjust move of my article to Draft

Hello Oshwah, I strongly believe I will get justice from you so I am hopeful that you will attend to this issue very well. I have been an editor since 2015, but I get a lot of attacks and disapproval which has continued to discourage me from doing anything further.

I created an article that is clearly correct with every credible reference from very popular platforms in Nigeria. But my article was unjustly moved to draft for allegedly not having a credible source. Oshwah, I am here to let you know that 3 sources I quoted are have been in existence since 2007 and have an international reputation with over millions of followers on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. they include but not limited to Vanguard, Genuis, and Bella Naija.

Jeriqis more than qualified to be on Wikipedia as he is well known and has good followership. I urge you to intervene on this urgent matter thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fabregado (talkcontribs) 11:10, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Fabregado! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions and concerns. The article you created was moved to draftspace because it was unreferenced at the time that it was moved. I see that you've added references since the move, which is a good thing to do. And don't worry! Because an article is moved to the draft space doesn't make it a bad thing. Having it in the draft space gives you the ability to spend all the time you need to expand and improve the article before it is accepted and moved into the mainspace. It also allows you to seek help from volunteers if you get stuck or have questions. Once the article is ready, it'll be moved back. It's already been submitted for review; just make improvements to the article and expand it while you wait for someone to approve it. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:52, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Draft article

Hi there, hope you are well. I have been drafting a new article and have spent a good amount of time on it - Draft:RAF Lakenheath near nuclear disasters. I was hoping to be able to get someone to review it for me. I noticed that you've done a couple of edits on the list of military nuclear accidents page, so I thought the topic area of my article (two Broken Arrow nuclear incidents) might be of interest to you. If you could review it for me would be immensely grateful. Snugglewasp (talk) 17:13, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Snugglewasp! Thanks for leaving me a message here! I hope you're doing well and that you're staying safe this holiday season. :-) Sure, I'll be happy to give it a read-through and see what I can do to help improve it. Upon first glance, I have to say... you've done a great job so far with the article. It appears well-formatted, informative, detailed, full of media and images, and would definitely be an article I see as one that would be a great candidate for being approved and moved to the mainspace. It might not be today (I'm quite busy and have a number of items on my to-do list), but I'll definitely give it a read. :-) Please let me know if I can do anything else for you, and I'll be happy to help! I wish you a great day and happy editing. :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:55, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Abigail Shrier

Her page was edited by someone who has no proof that her work was discredited. It was discredited by him, Jack Turban, in an op-ed. This is an attack on her reputation as a journalist and needs to be corrected. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gigilarue (talkcontribs) 04:14, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Gigilarue! The content you removed was referenced. Can you explain on the article's talk page why you removed this and with a good explanation with information? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:18, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Uw-error2 implies vandalism

Extending the talk from an IP's talk-page, the template Template:Uw-error2 and above imply vandalism, stating "Your edits could be interpreted as vandalism and have been reverted.". This should be resolved or reworded because not all errors are bad-faith. WhoAteMyButter (📬✏️) 04:55, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi WhoAteMyButter! I looked into the matter, and you're correct. I misread the warning thinking that you reverted the edit as vandalism. You didn't; you used the correct reason to revert the edit and left the correct warning. The warnings just looked similar and I made a bad assumption. I owe you my apologies; I'm sorry for the mistake on my part. Thanks for being a great contributor to the project, and I hope you keep up the excellent work! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:48, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Reverted edits by Talo_Smith (talk): unexplained content removal (HG) (3.4.10)

Hi Oshwah,

I am new on Wikipedia editing, so I apologise if I have mistakenly taken the wrong procedure towards my goal.

I work directly for Dexter Fletcher (the person who's page I am trying to change). He has asked me to make the edits I have done previously, and more. Mainly to take away a lot of irrelevant information he does not want on his page. This is the third time I have attempted but a 'bot' keeps reverting my changes. Can you help please?

Perhaps while we are here, I am also trying to upload a new photo for his page (to replace the current). The photo is owned by his close friend. Would you by chance have nay advice for me?

Thank you

Taro — Preceding unsigned comment added by Talo Smith (talkcontribs) 12:37, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Talo Smith! Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions and request for help. Since you have a conflict of interest with the article subject, you shouldn't be modifying or changing the article at all. Are you being paid by this person to edit the article? If so, you're required to disclose this by following the directions specified here. Instead of contributing to this article, I recommend that you contribute to other articles that interest you, but where no such personal conflict of interest exists. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message, and I hope that you stay with us as a contributor to the project! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:49, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi Oshwah, thanks for the prompt reply. No I am not being paid, apologies for my mis-communication! The chunks I was removing now are quite irrelevant to his current career status as a director! However if this change is problematic for you then please let me know. Would you have any advice for me in regards to uploading a photo? It is a far more accurate and valid depiction of Dexter today. Thank you so much! Talo — Preceding unsigned comment added by Talo Smith (talkcontribs) 12:58, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
Talo Smith - Instead of editing the article yourself, you can leave an edit request on the article's talk page. This will allow another editor to review and approve your request, and make the edit for you. See the edit request instructions I linked you to for more information. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:03, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi Oshwah, please would you help me further understand (apologies!) - Even if someone else is able to make the same changes I am trying to make, won't it just be reversed by a bot? Thank you Talo — Preceding unsigned comment added by Talo Smith (talkcontribs) 13:12, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
Talo Smith - If you file an edit request, and if someone else approves it and makes the edit for you, it will not be reverted by a bot. The changes made are open for community review and scrutiny, as with any edit or page, but it won't be reverted by a bot. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:02, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Ujala123! Thanks for leaving me a message here regarding the article you created. The article wasn't deleted because I felt that the information was wrong or untrue. It was deleted because it met G11 of Wikipedia's speedy deletion criteria. Basically, this means that the article appeared to be promotional. Wikipedia is not a place for advertising or promotion, and users (including myself) believed that this was the case. Is this article about yourself? Is it about someone you know? What made you decide to write an article about this person? [User:Oshwah|~Oshwah~]](talk) (contribs) 16:10, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Abigail Shrier

Hello. Thank you for protecting Abigail Shrier: [4]. Before you did so, I posted my concerns to the BLP noticeboard. Unfortunately, an admin has not responded yet (possibly because you issued full protection to the page). Are you planning on blocking the editor who was edit-warring, inserting non-RS content and obvious OR into the BLP? I tried to explain to the editor why they were wrong:[5], but they don't seem to understand any of the policies I presented them. Should I wait until someone from the BLP noticeboard responds? I could always submit a report to WP:AN/3 if that's the better route. Thank you--Dr.Swag Lord, Ph.d (talk) 17:32, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Dr.Swag Lord, Ph.d! Thanks for leaving me a message with your questions and concerns. I didn't plan on implementing any blocks or administrative action against any participants in that article. I was hoping that the full protection would result in all participants discussing the dispute on the article's talk page. If there are repeated BLP policy violations by this user that are serious, you can also file a report at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents to have administrative action taken there. Reporting the user to AN3 probably won't result in any action, as the article is fully protected and the issue is no longer currently happening. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to help you further. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:07, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
@Oshwah: Hello. I am still a little confused. Do you not think 13 reverts in 24 hours is not cause for alarm:[6]? This editor was clearly inserting unreliable sources and OR into the article. This is not a content dispute, and the editor does not seem to understand the policies when I explained it to them on the TP. Dr.Swag Lord, Ph.d (talk) 19:18, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
Dr.Swag Lord, Ph.d - Sure, that many reverts in a short amount of time is cause for concern. However, there's nothing I can do about it now. The edits have stopped (since the article is now fully protected). It wasn't just this user that made me decide to fully protect the article. There were reverts and issues that involved a number of other users as well, and it looked to me as if there were content-related issues as well. This is why I decided to fully protect the article. Please let me know if I can answer any more questions. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:49, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
@Oshwah: There's nothing you can do about it now? I may be out of line here, but why didn't you do something when the user broke 3RR (or when they broke 10RR)? You didn't even give the editor a warning. I noticed you were more than capable of leaving a warning template when two users didn't leave edit summaries: [7], [8]. Not leaving edit summaries is problematic, and you were correct for warning those users, but did you look at the content they removed? For instance, you reverted this removal: [9]. Even a cursory glance at the content, and one should be able to determine that "www.slowlyboiledfrog.com" is the furthest thing away from a RS, and has no business in a BLP. The other citation in that edit cited the book itself--which doesn't make sense. This is just a little confusing to me...Dr.Swag Lord, Ph.d (talk) 20:10, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
Dr.Swag Lord, Ph.d - I warned those users because they removed content without an explanation. I didn't notice that the content probably should've been removed. At the time I became aware of what was going on with this article, I had only reverted the unexplained removal of content. I then looked at the article's history, and determined that applying full protection was necessary. It would stop the disruption, and it would encourage all participants to properly discuss the issues and disputes that were going on. I can't be there, catch, and warn every single user out there that causes disruption. I would if I could, but I unfortunately can't. ;-) I do my best given the situation and what information I have in front of me.
Wikipedia's blocking policy states that blocks are supposed to be preventative, in that they are implemented in order to prevent further disruption to the project. If I've fully protected the article from editing, blocking users involved in the disruption or dispute would be inappropriate. I'm not preventing anything; it would be seen as being applied punatively, which is not the manner in which we're supposed to apply blocks. Being an administrator comes with a few extra buttons, and that's about it. Moreso, it comes with the responsibility of using the tools in the manner that they're supposed to be used, and in a neutral and level-headed fashion and as an uninvolved editor. This is why I won't be blocking the users at this time. Another administrator is more than welcome to do so, but I don't think that it's necessary at this time. If the edit warring and issues continue after the full protection expires, then a block can definitely be considered.
Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns. I appreciate you for expressing your thoughts honestly with me, and don't worry - you're not hurting my feelings or "stepping out of line" by questioning my actions (or lack thereof). :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:14, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Gary Varvel

Oshwah,

I am Gary Varvel. I see that you work for Wikipedia and you last edited the page about me.

I never wanted a page about me. Someone else set it up, I believe, in an effort to ruin my reputation. I have tried to delete the lies. For instance: I DO NOT have outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court. And I don't consider myself to be "radical right-wing" or "racist or sexist." Yet these words keep showing up on Wikipedia.

Please delete my page from Wikipedia.

Hi Dudgeton, and thanks for leaving me a message with your concerns regarding the article. I saw that unreferenced content added to the article yesterday, and I removed it. That edit is also hidden from being viewed in the article's history page, so nobody will be able to see or view it. I also went into the article and removed additional content that was unreferenced and improved the references cited and made other improvements. You can see the changes I made by clicking here. Please know that we do our very best to keep articles neutral and that content is referenced by sources that are reliable - especially for biographies of living people. I'm sorry that the content was added; please be assured that it has been removed and cannot be accessed. If you have any more questions or concerns, please let me know and I'll be more than happy to help you. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:16, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

Re Talk:Abigail Shrier

Hello Oshwah, if you happen to have time, could you please read my comment at Talk:Abigail Shrier? Aside from some incredibly poor non-WP:RS sourcing, I believe the larger problem with the article is that it fails notability guidelines. IHateAccounts (talk) 14:59, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi IHateAccounts! Thanks for leaving me a message here regarding Talk:Abigail Shrier. I saw your comment on the article's talk page and I agree that there could be better sourcing in the article. The full protection will expire soon; feel free to add them when it does. If there are serious violations of policy (such as copyright, BLP, and others), let me know and I can help. Have you created an AFD for this article? If the article doesn't meet the guidelines when it comes to notability, we should nominate this article for a deletion discussion. If you nominate this article, let me know and I'll add the AFD tag to it for you. Please let me know if you have any questions or other concerns, and I'll be happy to assist. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:27, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

IHateAccounts -  Done. The AFD is here. Can you replace my nomination statement with your nomination statement and add a reason for why you're listing the article? Thanks - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:51, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

You are feeling generous today

Got the Christmas Spirit?[10]

I hope your generosity is rewarded by the editor "seeing the light" during those 72 hours and becoming a productive, plays-well-with-others editor. Then again, becoming a productive, useful contributor is what I hope for everyone who comes back after a block. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 🎄 19:18, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi davidwr! Thanks for the message and the kind words! I sincerely hope so too, and I hope that the editor will learn and grow from this and that this block will shape them to become an experienced editor who values Wikipedia as much as we all do. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:25, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

No subject

Clearly you know nothing of the topic. The sources are the same as the author used. The ALBATROSS is the vessel the item is about. The Augsberg was a vessel in the same battle. The original author simply swapped the names when explaining the damages to Albatross. Why would he ever list extensive damages to a ship that escaped, while neglecting the Albatross. Do you even read these things before overreacting? If you change this again, please have a supervisor contact me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:187:4100:6B4:5178:BD7A:99DE:CFBE (talk) 02:49, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi there! That statement could be accurate and the article could simply be mentioning another ship that was hit. How do you know that what you are changing is correct? As far as a "supervisor" goes, I don't have one. We're all equals here when it comes to Wikipedia. Nobody has "rank" or "authority" above anyone else. We are all at the exact same level when it comes to articles and content, who has the "right" to edit or change something, and who Wikipedia's policies and guidelines apply to (which would be everyone). Please let me know if you have questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to help you. Thanks! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:31, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

How to leave citation

I thought I followed all the correct steps by providing links to the original story. Could you please tell me what I did wrong and how to correct it? Redffoxe (talk) 02:53, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Redffoxe! Thanks for leaving me a message here! Wikipedia's guidelines on citing sources will provide you with assistance as to how to do this properly. In the meantime, I went ahead and restored the content you added to the article, as you did add links to references. Please let me know if you have any questions about the guideline page, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:56, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

I mass reverted disruptive edits. Was it the right thing, or was it way too reckless?

I mass reverted disruptive edits. Was it the right thing, or was it reckless? I scanned the contribs of an IP range blocked for being disruptive. I may have been too reckless for using the powerful tool, but all the edits appeared to be subtle vandalism. Any help? See my contribs. 4thfile4thrank (talk) 03:01, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi 4thfile4thrank! Happy Friday! I did some spot-checking on some of the diffs you reverted, and they all were unreferenced changes to data and content within articles. From my first glance, I don't see an issue with what you did. If someone discovers an issue, I'm sure they'll let you know. I've used that tool many times to revert mass changes by a user or IP that were disruptive, vandalism, or were made without consensus - and I always feel a bit nervous using the tool. It's a lot of changes that get reverted in a matter of seconds! Fear not, though; if you "measure twice" before you "cut", you won't run into any trouble. Worst case scenario, you did it in good faith, and you can easily restore any changes back by going to your contributions and rolling back your edits. ;-) Please don't hesitate to let me know if you need my input or assistance, and I'll be happy to lend a hand. Keep up the great work! You're an excellent contributor here, and I appreciate your time and your dedication greatly! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:09, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah

Hey Oashwah, I noticed the changes you made to the Zach Klein page. Thank you for reminding me to add sources. I have a page that I'm trying to publish. It's for Patrick Algrim, yes, myself. Another internet entrepreneur. Can you review my page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Patrickalgrim (talkcontribs) 03:54, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Patrickalgrim! Thanks for leaving me a message here! No problem; make sure that you review and understand this page on citing sources. It will provide you with information and instructions regarding how to properly cite sources. Please let me know if you have any questions after reviewing that guideline page. :-) Regarding the article you wish to create: You shouldn't be creating articles about yourself. Not only do you have a personal conflict of interest with the article subject (obviously), Wikipedia's guidelines discourage users from creating autobiographies, or articles about themselves. If you meet Wikipedia's guidelines on notability, someone else will without-a-doubt write an article about you. Instead, you should contribute elsewhere and to article subjects and topics that interest you, but where you don't have any conflicts of interest. This assures that content is written to reflect a neutral point of view. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:04, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Political biases

Hey man you definitely let your personal political biases color your input on the Abigail Shrier article and I would personally have serious qualms about reading anything you’ve edited. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.110.144.177 (talk) 05:38, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Really? Why so? I fully protected the article due to disruption. And someone else asked me for assistance for listing the article for deletion. Other than that, I haven't edited the article. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:48, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

You are not reliable

Why have you marked certain pages for removal?

That’s my comment above. That’s not true, you’ve been marked as an editor on the Abigail Shrier page on several occasions

See my response above, and look here. I listed the article because another editor asked me for help with doing so (they can't put the template on the article due to it being fully protected). The filing user added their reasons to the discussion. See this version of the discussion. Oh, you're right - I did edit the article. I reverted someone's unexplained content removal and set the article back to what it was before he/she went and just deleted a bunch of stuff. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:57, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Bot in username

Hi Oshwah, does User:JapanBot97's name violate the rule against users using bot in their usernames? I have no idea, so I thought you might know. This may also be a COI account. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 07:27, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi BilCat! Nah, it's fine... The "bot" part has to be at the very end of the username in order for it to violate policy. Even in those cases, they could be part of last names or innocent coincidences. Just keep eyes on those and go from there. ;-) If you run into any more questions, you know where I am. Don't hesitate to say hello. :-) Happy Friday! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:22, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Checkuser

Hi. Can I request a checkuser (two users) without submitting a SPI case? I know SPI is not for witch-hunting but I have recently encountered an odd case which looks very fishy; it could be either sockpuppetry or meatpuppetry. --Wario-Man (talk) 12:27, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Wario-Man! We always recommend that you file a case at WP:SPI so that any of us can review it and examine the evidence. It's also possible to open a case, but not to request a checkuser review it. Is there a particular reason why you're hesitant to file a case there? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:35, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
Because I think the evidences are still not enough for submitting a SPI report but they guarantee a checkuer. I provide some evidences here: Take a look at User1, User2, and EIA results. Isn't odd that both users opened very similar sections[11][12] on the talk page of an article in less than 3 days? The other similarity is their comments. Review the history of that talk page. And they tag most of their edits as minor. I don't think such amount of similar activity is just a coincidence; especially on a specific talk page. It seems like abusing and violating talk page rules to win a debate/discussion/move request. So checkuser would be helpful. --Wario-Man (talk) 06:34, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi Wario-Man! The evidence you provided here is enough to file a report at SPI in my opinion, yes. Go ahead and file one and someone will take a look at it. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:08, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
OK. Cheers! --Wario-Man (talk) 19:22, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
Wario-Man You can submit an SPI, just like that; no problem. Firestar464 (talk) 06:44, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
Firestar464, I'm familiar with WP:SPI and I have submitted several reports there since 2014. The point is about should I take this case to SPI or not? Oshwah, do you think those evidences are convincing enough to fill a SPI report? --Wario-Man (talk) 07:52, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
I was thinking about the same thing, in my humble opinion, there is enough evidences to go ahead. @Wario-Man: since i have the same doubts about these two editors, if you want, i can proceed.---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 19:38, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
@Wikaviani: Please do it by yourself and submit a SPI case. Because I have only one anti-vandalism edit on that article from 2013[13]. Never edited that article again and it's not my concern. Even not involved in the related discussions except the recent one which was just sharing my opinion.[14] I just noticed the amount of unusual activity by both registered users and some IPs. I'm not familiar with that article and what has happened there. Just the recent activity looks fishy to me and that was the reason why I came here. I don't involve myself because as I said I have no idea about that article and its history. So please don't ping me for this case. Thanks. --Wario-Man (talk) 20:48, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
Sure, i'll proceed then. Cheers.---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 21:34, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah, it appears Kingrocky2005 (talk · contribs) is another sock of the two you blocked, as at Freedom of religion in Nepal. Cheers, 2601:188:180:B8E0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 17:43, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Bob! Thanks for letting me know. I've protected the article for one week due to the ongoing sockpuppetry going on there. If any further issues pop up, let me know and I'll be happy to take a look at what's going on. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:38, 14 December 2020 (UTC)

I would like an uninvolved admin to see if closing this is appropriate.

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ahmed Yusuf (2nd nomination). No comments in 3 days, and all the consensus is unambiguously one-sided, which adds up to WP:SNOW. 4thfile4thrank (talk) 00:18, 13 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi 4thfile4thrank! It looks like this AFD has been closed by another administrator. If you see any more AFD discussions that need an uninvolved admin to review, please don't hesitate to let me know if you need my input. I'll be happy to take a look. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:39, 14 December 2020 (UTC)

Change Reversion

Read the talk page before reverting. You should undo your reversion.120.20.214.118 (talk) 21:40, 14 December 2020 (UTC)

Your addition to the infobox on the Jillian Lauren article was not okay. That description calling the person this is not acceptable - even if she's a self-admitted former "callgirl". This is why I reverted your changes. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:44, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
What is your opinion on the page's inclusion in Category: American Prostitutes and on this being listed on the page? The substance of the edit is factually true, consistent with the rest of the article, and consistent with language use elsewhere on Wikipedia. Your objection may well be valid, but if it is, then surely we must consider the broader implications and address new problems that arise from them. I think, however, that your reversion is wrong and produces inconsistency.120.20.214.118 (talk) 23:28, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
You should discuss it on the article's talk page first before you take such action. Other users might disagree with what you're trying to do. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:30, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Stacey Dooley

Hello. Recently edited and frankly fixed Stacey Dooley’s filmography. It must be one of the worst I’ve ever seen. That is not how you form one. I stated this in my summary, but you reverted it, and ironically stating that i gave no explanation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2a00:23c7:fc14:3700:7c2e:daa3:bfc9:aa14 (talk) 01:44, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi there! Please accept my apologies; I didn't know if your edit summary was referring to the edit itself, or was going off about something unrelated, which is why I reverted your edit. I see that you've since restored your changes. Thank you for doing that, and please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. I'll be more than happy to answer them and assist you. Thanks for the message and for letting me know. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:05, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

The PFP and the Labour Party are the opposition parties to anti-Taiwanese independence.

Therefore, the Chinese Nationalist Party should be marked as the "Chinese Republic" and the Taiwanese Nationalist Party as the "Taiwan." This is because they have different national views.--Storm598 (talk) 02:54, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Storm598! The reason I reverted the edit was because your changes here didn't match the article title (Labor Party (Taiwan)). David Gilbert

I noticed that you rolled back the change from "activist" to "convicted murderer" on David Gilbert's page. I disagree with "activist" being more neutral. The murder conviction is factual, whereas activist is a loosely defined term and not quite fitting of a person who murdered three individuals. In addition to "convicted murderer" being a more factually accurate and neutral description, "activist" also does a great disservice to proper activists. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:8001:6703:AD00:AD8A:1A80:56D3:6C9B (talk) 03:04, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi there! Please see Wikipedia's policy on due and undue weight. Why is changing a lose term such as "activist" less neutral than the very-specific term "convicted murderer"? Your statement here saying that the term "activist" is "not quite fitting of a person who murdered three individuals" tells me that you have a certain viewpoint about this person, which isn't good when it comes to contributing neutrally to an article subject. If you feel that your changes are a net positive to the article, please feel free to start a discussion on the article's talk page. :-) Thanks - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:12, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

Sockpuppet - Iconian42 issue

Hi Oshwah,

sorry to disturb, you but the sock is continusly pinging me (but of course, I won't take the decoy, as his socks as well did this never ending discussions, pretending non-understanding, falsifying or bludgeoning, as well on noticeboards, with other editors, etc.), and at this point it became abusive.

The investigation you did with the fellow admin was correct, without knowing about it I recognized the phenomenon earlier ([18]]), and already reported to the previously acting admin, but before answering the parallel sockpuppet investigation already was complete (all in all, 2 different admins and 2 different users recognized him, without notifiyng each other)

I could easily refute the socks deceptive allegations about me (btw. very amateur manipulations, despite the talk pages prove everything), but I won't spend more precious editing time to someone who tired for almost two months the community on the other hand the other users he is listing are topic banned, or indefinetly banned editors, except Ikastul which is a sleeping account with 85 mainspace edits, while Scheianu could have been blocked for serious personal attacks if I am not so much elegant, but finally draw back his tone, etc.

I think, it is the time to revoke talk page access, as the sock again started to mock me, and he will never stop and 'till infinite time will continue until the last ditch, as his socks did. Regards.(KIENGIR (talk) 13:03, 19 December 2020 (UTC))

This isn't gonna stop - as I prolonged - ([19]), the funny thing is again the very cheap way of manipulation of the facts, just one example, the sock states in fact he did not violate the RFC, but followed it "just quote the census figures directly", and then he presents his edit where he removes the census figures and replaced them with estimations and adding texts and quotes although the RFC result was clear (funnily is his recent rant he even contradicting himself by describing what I removed fairly as per the earlier mentioned). The same way the other coin attempts may be easily demonstrated.
The user continuing the scheme I described above, he is never guilty, always innocent, despite on noticeboards, talk page discussion more users explained him everything, but in the end never accepted really his faults, but rallied even very experienced editors and fighting the evidence, even continuing when his argumentation already became logically untenable, but in a never ending way an alternate reality is pursued by the editor where black will became white, yellow will became green - even the stars do not shine in the sky, it is just an illusion -, and anyone who oppose is accused with various epithets, like a conspiracy would be made against the "poor" editor. The most amusing part is the last remark, "did not break any rules.". This has to end, my bearance of the user's insults are limited (and as I see the insultation of another user just restarted).(KIENGIR (talk) 13:43, 21 December 2020 (UTC))
Hi KIENGIR! Thanks for leaving me a message regarding this user. I re-checked all of the technical evidence and stood by my original findings after SQL pinged me about this. If they claim that they have not broken any rules and have not created any sock puppet accounts, they should appeal their block. Both this page and this page detail how the user can do so, and the Arbitration Committee will review it. Other than that, I have no other information I can give. People will swear up-and-down that they're innocent; they may or may not be. All I can tell you is that the block is based off of technical evidence that I found. Let me know if you have any more questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to help you further. If the user doesn't stop their erratic behavior, let me know and I will have another admin revoke their talk page access (I probably shouldn't do it since I'm the blocking admin, and that might be received... poorly... if you know what I mean). Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:38, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
Oshwah,
Thank you for your feedback. Don't worry there is no doubt the sock investigation was correct, it is just being reinforced every further talk page comment of the subject, since he continuing still those pretensions I detailed above, just around 2 days ago ([20]), although by a few point&click the invalidiy of the argumentation could be demonstrated, but this user will never stop or accept anything, in his last rant on the bottom of the page he again repeats an akin argumentation that again one of his previous infamous socks did, so lame....but a meanwhile answering you I just noticed this ([21]), where again I am mentioned around 20 times (+15,073 (!!), and as well attacking a fellow editor the same way incorrectly), so I this is the point when I say enough, so please do contact that another admin :/. Have a nice day!(KIENGIR (talk) 07:05, 29 December 2020 (UTC))
KIENGIR - You did the best you could to try and help this user, and I commend you greatly for that. If anything, you gained experience with keeping patient and civil, and increased your skill with dedication and with helping others by trying - all of which are assets when it comes to becoming a wise and experienced editor on Wikipedia, so don't take it as a failure on your part. Take it as a success. Some people just don't want to be helped or try and understand where they went wrong. I see that a lot on this project; there are just times where you have to acknowledge that the user isn't going to take the help you hand-deliver to them and with everything they need included, no matter how many times you try. Just take the positive things you got out of trying to help the user, and move on. Thanks again for the message. I'll continue to keep eyes on the user's talk page and I'll offer them the information I provided you above regarding how to properly appeal their block. From there, the ball is in the user's court and they can either take the help that's given to them or leave it... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:26, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for your kind words, your optimism is refreshing! On the technical part, I just tell any comment there will feed the troll, and will take as another chance to prove the injust against them and turn out the world from it's four corners. Your fellow admin made it clear, the user may appeal their block appropriately on the master sock account's talk page ([22]).(KIENGIR (talk) 07:35, 29 December 2020 (UTC))
KIENGIR - No problem! I was told this saying long ago, and I try and stick to it as often as I can: "Take the meat and leave the bones". In unfavorable or even ridiculous situations that you find yourself part of, the best thing you can do is take what's positive out of it, and leave the rest behind. Don't let the negative parts of it come with you or affect you at all. Even if you have to think hard to come up with just a few positive things that you personally got out of something unfavorable or that went sour, take those with you. Don't leave meat behind, and don't take bones with you. They only weigh you down. ;-) I went ahead and let the user know how to properly appeal their block. Even if they take it negatively or as a reason to point fingers, I gave them the information they needed. It's up to them if they go through with it or not. They can't come back later and say that they weren't given the proper advice. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:45, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Trouble at Checkpoint Charlie

Hi Oshwah, hope you're well... If you have a minute, could you take a look at Checkpoint Charlie Museum? A user is repeatedly making the same edit, adding content that doesn't seem to be encyclopedic. I've notified them about the content policies and WP:BRD and so on, and I don't want to edit-war with them, but I think the material really doesn't belong.

I also suspect they're the same person as blocked Nillsson and their sock Eintracht123. Partly based on the same interest in promoting the Museum and its directors the Hildebrandts, as well as their edit-warring behavior. But also because they're doing the same thing on German Wikipedia too, like the others did, where they are presently edit-warring with other users over an edit that's nearly the same as Nillsson's last one for example: [23], [24] (in German). I can file an SPI report, and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that evidence from other Wikipedias can be used in SPI cases, but I can't seem to find it now. Without that, the evidence here is maybe not strong enough. What do you think? --IamNotU (talk) 02:18, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

It got a bit more serious - they've ignored my request for discussion at Checkpoint Charlie Museum, and have been adding copyrighted content and edit-warring over that at Rainer Hildebrandt, as Nillsson/Eintracht123 also did. I went ahead and filed a report at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Nillsson‎. There may need to be some other kind of admin intervention though, depending how long that takes and what the outcome is... --IamNotU (talk) 22:03, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi IamNotU! Thanks for filing that SPI report. I agree that the user wasn't adding content that would be kept in that article, as I saw in it's editing history. I would run a checkuser, but the two confirmed accounts are too stale for me to be able to use to compare. I'll take a look at the report and see what I can do. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:45, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
Hey Oshwah, hope you had some nice holiday time... Yes, I figured they were too stale for CU. It was more that they were on a bit of a tear, but at the moment they've stopped editing, so things are more under control. You're probably still busy so don't worry about the SPI, I didn't mean to jump the queue. I was just looking for feedback about evidence on other Wikipedias, another report I made was declined with "Enwiki is not the global wiki-police" so I was uncertain about how it works. --IamNotU (talk) 12:21, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
IamNotU - No worries, and sure - I understand. :-) While adding details regarding cross-wiki abuse is certainly something that should be done, it just needs to be supplemented with abuse occurring on this project. Otherwise, yeah, there's nothing we can do if it doesn't involve en-wiki. My "checkuser eyes" only go so far; I can only see technical data that's logged on the English Wikipedia's servers (or any other project that I'm also a checkuser on), and all technical data that I can see is only stored onto Wikimedia's servers for three months since the time it was initially logged. So, if someone requests a checkuser on SPI and if all of the accused accounts haven't edited or logged any actions on Wikipedia for over three months, there's nothing I can do... lol. Anyways, let me know if things change or if I'm needed again, and I'll be happy to help. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:57, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
Ok, thanks, good to know that cross-wiki details are useful. Regarding that previous report though, it was actually all about socking on English Wikipedia by Garagarage1979 (talk · contribs). A fair amount of the evidence I found linking them to the master was on others, but a good amount here too. I guess I can understand the admin not wanting to wade through edit histories in non-Roman alphabets... There was socking on other Wikipedias too, but I also don't really have the resources to police those, I was just concerned about here. The master hasn't edited here for years, so it would have had to be behavioral. They're both still editing on different Wikipedias though, the master where they aren't blocked, and the sock where they are. I guess a global CU could put those together? The sock didn't come back here after that, so I didn't pursue it further. Do you think it's worthwhile to report it at m:SRCU as suggested? Again, I'm not really certain about how things work with cross-wiki abuse. --IamNotU (talk) 13:27, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
IamNotU - I don't think it would hurt to report the user as suggested. In regards to cross-wiki abuse, it's either investigated or dealt with by someone who can do so on the involved wiki projects, or by a Steward, who can globally lock accounts for this reason. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:06, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

User:Sandy Anugrah

I have suspicions about Sandy Anugrah and they aren't good. Brand new editor seems to know a lot about formatting. Refuses to use edit summaries; I've warned about that. Also refuses to use any talk page at all, possibly unable to write or understand English. WP:CIR applies here. Five warnings on her page by this time, and no sign of reforming. I would take it to WP:ANI but these tend to get no traction there. Elizium23 (talk) 10:25, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Elizium23! Thanks for leaving a message here with your concerns about Sandy Anugrah. I do see multiple warnings and continued issues here. I would start a report at ANI despite your concerns regarding traction. This will at least open a discussion where I can add information and take lead on the report. Can you do that for me and let me know when you've done this? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:48, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Possible socking in recent MFD

For your perusal, Oshwah, there seems to be some possible socking going on in this MFD where multiple of the IP voters are mimicking the same voting style and mannerisms of the nominator. I'm unsure as to whether this warrants a CU or opening up a WP:SPI. Let me know your thoughts.--WaltCip-(talk) 14:50, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I second this CU request as the human who made the CU request on the actual SPI page. JJP...MASTER![talk to] JJP... master? 02:57, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi WaltCip and JJPMaster - It looks like someone has already striken comments from sock puppets on the MFD page; do you still need me to take a look at it? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:53, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
I think it's a moot point now. No need to at this point, but thanks anyway. Happy New Year!--WaltCip-(talk) 02:05, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
WaltCip - No worries. Thanks for letting me know. If you need anything else, don't be a stranger. Have a great new year! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:52, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Jax 0677! It looks like the article has been renamed and some edits made. Is there anything specific that I need to look at? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:46, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
Reply - Wisconsin Farmer keeps trying to create duplicate articles. --Jax 0677 (talk) 02:48, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
Jax 0677 - Thanks for letting me know. Looking at the edit history of the redirect shows that the user did try and recreate the article there once. An admin undid the changes in lieu of speedy deletion and restored the redirect. Are there other places where this user is repeatedly doing this? Have you talked to the user about this yet? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:59, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Editing of Lee Rowley page

Hi again Oshwah,

Hope you are well. You helped a while back with the 'Lee Rowley' page after what appeared to be the same person repeatedly deleting anything that was not entirely positive about the subject matter. Same person appears to be back. First it was an unregistered user and then it was a user who only edits that page. As before, they are making exactly the same edits as last year (word for word), which suggests it is the same person again. After the last round of issues a couple of experienced Wiki editors stepped in and tidied things up and rejected the vandalism that was going on. They also critiqued some of the detail in my edits, which I accepted as they were sensible points. The user who keeps deleting material appears to be the subject of the page and they refuse to discuss matters on the talk page. As again, suspect the page needs a extra control to stop their vandalism, as they keep just re-doing the edits.

Thanks, Impsfan (talk) 11:34, 27 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Impsfan! Thanks for the update and the information regarding the Lee Rowley article. Is BingBong2001 the user that you're referring to? If so, it doesn't look like they've edited the article since the 29th of August (which is also when they last made any edits at all). As of right now, I can't do anything administratively. Just keep the article in your watchlist and stay in touch with the user about the issue. If things get out of control (such as edit warring), let me know and I'll be happy to step in - just don't engage in edit warring yourself! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:15, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

conspiracy theorists

“MeWe's light approach to content moderation has made it popular among conspiracy theorists, particularly the anti-vaccine movement, as well as American conservatives.”

You could say the same about Facebook. However, you don’t see any potentially damaging remarks on Facebook’s Wikipedia. The above remark is an opinion at best. That said, I could understand if this statement was in a separate section or category. For example, how some Wikipedia pages have a death category, lawsuits, legal problems, etc...

I don’t have a Mewe account, so I decided to research mewe, and the first thing I read about mewe is the statement above. It is almost slander, it saddens me I can’t even look up anything these days with out some sort of bias. With this in mind, if Facebook and Instagram had all their shady business out front and was the first thing I read in their Wikipedia page, I would not be writing this at all. In fact, There is nothin negative on the Facebook Wikipedia page. Isn’t Facebook being sued right now by like 48 states for breach of privacy laws?

All things considered, I feel like the mewe Wikipedia page can be churched up a bit. I doubt you will actually care but I do hope you take what I said into consideration.

24.16.130.241 (talk) 18:44, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi there! If you feel that the statement isn't worded to reflect a neutral point of view, you should make an edit request on the article's talk page here. Include exactly what change should be made, and another editor will review it and make the appropriate modifications on your behalf. Alternatively, you can create an account and edit the protected page when your account becomes autoconfirmed. I'm sorry to hear that you're disappointed with the article's content and that you feel that there's bias within it's content. Fear not, though! You can do something about it! Just follow the directions I gave you here, and you can make the changes you feel would improve the article's content! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:23, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

SPI

I added what, in retrospect, was a wall of text to this. I did it because the editor who opened it said "There are probably some other ways to connect the accounts that don't involve deleted contribs on other wiki" and I took that as a request for assistance.

Honest opinion requested - did this get in your way/create more unnecessary work for you, was it helpful, or was it a "didn't matter one way or the other"? davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 🎄 04:35, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Davidwr! It's always helpful to add information and create SPI reports in good faith where necessary. The first SPI report that was created by the other user would've been declined a CU check since they only listed an IP address in the list as a sock. I was able to run a checkuser with your report since it included relevant details and diffs, and included a list of accounts that were suspected socks. Don't be afraid to add more socks to a list and add more details, diffs, and information to an SPI report in the "comments by other users" section if you also suspect sock puppetry but have additional relevant information to share. We have to have a clear and reasonable amount of evidence to suspect sock puppetry before any check can be run. We also cannot use the checkuser tool to confirm if an IP address is a sock puppet of an account - only accounts to accounts. Thanks for the message with your questions! The short answer is that you did perfectly fine. ;-) I hope you had a great holiday and that you're staying safe. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:56, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

177.155.203.67 and 109.131.1.0 are clearly jack puppets, new users wouldnt be familiar with marquinhos or jack accounts or puppets/investigations, and couldnt be possible to know the places i edited without going to these places before, they also have the same troll ish gramatic as jack and the same pages/objectives as him, they also have the same attitudes, harassment and vandalism, so i ask you guys to search on these accounts because they may be jack socks, this kid also knows wikipedia admins on the first day and his first edits are exactly talking with wikipedia admins https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/177.155.203.67 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/109.131.1.0

can you checkuser them so they can get banned? they also got false reports saying im a sock only because of my shared interest in ww2, similar username of a language i know and my gramatic (im NOT american, im brazilian, but i can speak english easily)

also, get jack banned from the community, he has already caused MANY disruption to the site and wont stop soon

i found a new IP, 187.36.156.37, that is possibly another sock of JACK, he vandalized is a possible sockpuppet and everything i said before applies on this one, heres his "contributions":187.36.156.37 WikipedianManiac (talk) 13:10, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Davidwr - HA! That's funny... I actually do have experience using GIMP. If you want to get into image editing, look it up on google. It's open source and it's free. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:23, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
I was using GIMP off and on 1-2 decades ago, but it's been ages. I'm sure it's much easier to use now - "hard to use compared to expensive alternatives" was one of its drawbacks back then. I'm not sure if I first used it before or after Wikipedia went live. Of course "back in my day" computer graphics meant using the university mainframe to print ASCII art on green-bar paper, or if you had the budget - think Hollywood and high-end scientific/engineering applications - a Unix workstation that costs more than a low-end new car. Oh and I almost forgot, there was "continuous sideways printing on fan-fold white paper" that 8- and 16-bit home computers could do for things like "Happy Birthday" banners and the like. You printed it in black-and-white using an "outline font" and colored it in with a pen or crayon. Hey, from 10 feet away 9-pin dot matrix impact printing doesn't look so bad. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 🎄 23:10, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Hello Oshwah, would you happen to know a sockpuppeteer whose username ends with the string "9x19" off the top of your head? It seems vaguely familiar to me, but I've been unable to find them. Pahunkat (talk) 18:03, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Please undelete User:RobertFindling

Hi! I am trying to help a colleague get started editing Wikipedia (and especially Wikiversity). We are Zooming right now. He had copied a bio into the page, and when we logged back in, it was deleted. It would be very helpful to add back. If any content was problematic, please let us know and we will adjust accordingly. Thanks! Prof. Eric A. Youngstrom (talk) 13:44, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Prof. Eric A. Youngstrom - It was an article-like biography about the user himself, which isn't allowed on user pages. I would not encourage this user to create an autobiography; these are high discouraged here. Instead, I'd have the user create an article about something else that interests them, or expand an article that exists. This would be a great way to help the user gain experience in article creation or expansion. Also, I saw that you removed this discussion immediately after adding it here - did you mean to do this, or was it by accident? :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:59, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
I see; that makes sense. What happened here is that I suggested that he copy and paste an existing bio as a quick way of populating the page. That is the same way I bet the other Board Members would approach it -- they already have bios elsewhere, and that would be a quick way to start to describe themselves to the community. I understand the concern, and the goal would NOT be to create a bootleg biography, but rather to make it easier for the editing community to understand the board members. Thank you! Prof. Eric A. Youngstrom (talk) 15:25, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Sorry for the split thread -- I am replying below on the thread with User:SandyGeorgia SandyGeorgia. Cheers! Prof. Eric A. Youngstrom (talk) 15:36, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Please undelete User:RobertFindling page

Dear Oshwah, I am writing to ask that you please undelete the User:RobertFindling page. He is the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University, and a very accomplished researcher. He also is on the Board of Directors for Helping Give Away Psychological Science, which is both a nonprofit organization (501c3) and has an affiliated Wikimedia User Group (H-GAPS). The full list of HGAPS Board members is here.

What we are trying to do is start to connect more people with the editing community, and do it respectfully and collaboratively. We would like to get all of the Board members to make accounts if they do not already have them, and add brief biographies and some links to help the Wiki community understand them (their areas of expertise, and their potential conflicts of interest). My hunch is that most of the board members are too busy in their regular lives to be likely to do much editing, but it seems worthwhile to have them have some exposure to the mechanics. They also are content experts who are consulting with the younger editors in the HGAPS user group, so them having a footprint on Wiki is helpful in terms of transparency. Dr. Findling is notable enough to have an actual Wikipedia article about him, but that is not our goal -- we want to create accounts and descriptive user pages to accomplish the goals of education and transparency. If it would be helpful to contact Dr. Findling directly, he has given me permission to include his email (robert.findling@vcuhealth.org).

If there was particular content that seemed inappropriate, please advise, and we will work to revise accordingly. The template that I am thinking for the userpages for the Board members would be along the lines of mine, with links to my university page, as well as to PubMed and GoogleScholar searches to make it convenient for editors to find my areas of expertise/potential COI. SandyGeorgia has been over my page several times, and we have had very helpful discussion about how to achieve transparency and not go rogue making edits in mainspace. :-)

Again, the goal is to create accounts and descriptive user pages, NOT pages for these people in mainspace (although many would be well past the notability threshold). These are not likely to be active editors (though it would be excellent if over time, we could engage some of them to make constructive edits).

Based on my quick read of your UserPage, it looks like you are busy patrolling new accounts. It would be great to get any suggestions about how best to "on board" the Board members. Our next Board meeting is in mid-January, and we can certainly pause adding new account userpages until we have guidance from you. Like Dr. Findling, I check email (eay@unc.edu) more frequently than my talk pages, though I check the Wikipedia one several times a week. (My account is old enough that I don't have a single one for all the projects, which is a hassle since I spend more time on Wikiversity).

Thanks very much for your work, and looking forward to next steps! Best wishes for the New Year as well! Prof. Eric A. Youngstrom (talk) 15:06, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Not an admin, so I can't see the deleted user page or know what the advertising was, but yes, I have worked considerably with Eric Youngstrom, and believe we should be in shape to not have promotional problems. Best, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:12, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Eyoungstrom, SandyGeorgia: Okay, I'll take your word for it and give the benefit of the doubt here -  Done. The page is undeleted. I'm still concerned that this is either self-promotion or an autobiography, since the username of the account matches the person that the user is writing about. I think the overall plan and intended goals here might need discussion. I just don't want to see any of your hard work go to waste. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:20, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, Oshwah. Now that I can see User:RobertFindling, yes, Eyoungstrom, I think you'll want them to get that cleaned up quickly. As a couple of samples of appropriate userpages of practicing physician/experts, see Graham Beards TimVickers and Jfdwolff (I have gleaned from others that Jacob might meet notability and could have his own Wikipedia article, but you'll see no such indication of that on his user page, which focuses exclusively on his Wikipedia work). I think it wise to list your Wikipedia work, link to your real life credentials, but take care that user pages are not CVs trying to look like articles. One distinction where you all need to be very careful (compared to Tim or Graham or Jacob) is that your userpages and work are not promoting your own work in the area of assessment.
Oshwah, I will watchlist that user page. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:31, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
SandyGeorgia - Be careful about encouraging or telling people about posting their real life credentials, website, contact information, etc on their user pages or on Wikipedia. I never encourage this practice for anyone due to the risk of harassment and other serious problems I've seen happen. Once someone puts their information like that on Wikipedia, even with revision deletion and even suppression available, the information is still hard to completely remove and is never really gone. I would encourage the user to make a user page that's primarily Wikipedia-focused and with content allowed per Wikipedia's user page policy; don't have him put personal identifiable or other information about himself on here. It's not a good idea. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:01, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Very good point. I certainly would not even consider doing that myself :) Maybe Eric and this user can put their heads together quickly and rethink this whole thing-- that is whether to delete that page again, and start over. I need to get some work done today ... I had so wanted to get caught up on other things that demand my full focus :( Thanks for helping out here ... SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:09, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Thank you both! Interesting about the choice of username being a concern. I actually had coached him to make a username like that, again with the goal of achieving maximum transparency and avoiding concerns about sockpuppetry. If there is a better approach, please coach us. We want to do this the right way, and getting the kinks worked out now will save work later as other Board members add accounts. HUGELY appreciated!
Also helpful about the bio. It's another great example of cultural differences between his world and Wiki. His CV is more than 200 single spaced pages; so he and I thought that would be unhelpful (as well as unacceptable!) and picked the blurb as a reasonable length thumbnail (similar to what he would have on a Department page). I am sure that most board members won't have something like what you suggested "off the shelf." We can certainly work to shape them. One solution might be to have younger editors help edit their userpages. My sense, though, is that such editing is against a convention (not editing someone else's userpage). Another option would be to draft things off-wiki and then paste in.
FWIW, if you look at the account's edit history, he did make a couple edits to the random page suggested by the wizard when he created the account. Grateful for the input! Prof. Eric A. Youngstrom (talk) 15:44, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Well, the page has been nominated for speedy again, so I suggest you all get busy removing the promotional ASAP ... I really don't have time for this today. The name is not the problem (Graham Beards uses his real name); the promotional/bio/CV content is. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:36, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
I am also just now realizing there is a split thread above, which doesn't help in the confusion. Eric, my suggestion is to not undertake something like this when you're rushed; COI (or concerns thereof) and promotional concerns are a serious matter on Wikipedia, and it is somewhat understandable that the userpage was retagged right away. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:39, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
As I am just now seeing that the reason I did not realize there were three threads on this topic is because Oshwah has a hidden table of contents, which I just now found. Ack and double ACK and triple ACK that all of this is on a morning when I am days behind on things I have promised other editors, and was hoping to catch up :( :( SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:50, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Sorry - rushing and bad typing

Dear Oshwah, sorry for the gaffes interacting with your talk page! I was rushing the first time (to try to see whether we could connect before Bob had to finish the Zoom). I am not good at typing, and still clumsy with some of the code on top of that. I was composing a longer reply in my sandbox which I just pasted in, and *then* saw that you had already replied on your talk. Sorry, sorry, sorry! I am trying! :-) Please let me know your thoughts after you have a chance to look at the additional information I just sent. I am about to run an errand with my wife, but will check back in a couple hours if we don't connect now. THANKS! Prof. Eric A. Youngstrom (talk) 15:17, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Eyoungstrom, when you are home and settled, read the post above this one :0 Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:34, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Eyoungstrom - No apologies needed. It's more important that you're getting the help you need. The way my user talk page looks or the fact that another discussion thread is accidentally created is not a big deal. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:49, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Thegooduser

Just to check, are you User:Thegooduser? This issue was brought up in a teahouse thread. Going onto this user's userpage leads to an edit notice, which in turn leads to your talk page. Thanks, Pahunkat (talk) 16:16, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Pahunkat! Nope, I'm certainly not Thegooduser. The user has been renamed to つがる. What he did was copy my pagenotice template from my user space, but he forgot to edit it and change the template so that the link to leave him a message pointed to his user talk page instead of mine. That's why you're seeing what you're seeing, and that's what's causing the confusion. You can see the template here. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:51, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Ashleyyoursmile! Happy new year to you as well! I hope that it was safe, and that your 2021 year goes well for you! How are you liking the new user rights? Any questions for me? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:47, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the wishes. :) I actually started using Red warn the day you granted me rollback, so I think I'm going to stick around with it for a while before switching over to to Huggle. I presume Huggle is the quickest way to revert vandalism, so if I start using it immediately, I might not return to Red warn again. Regarding pending changes, its very rare to come across pages which the PC protection, but when I do its generally pretty easy to review the edit. Also, why is it that some reports made at the AIV go "stale" and get removed automatically after a few hours when they remain unanswered? Ashleyyoursmile! 06:34, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi Ashleyyoursmile! That's awesome! I heard that RedWarn is a good tool to use. Remember that it's not about which tool you should use that's the "fastest" when it comes to reverting vandalism. The tool that you should use is the one that you feel the most comfortable with using. I think that many of the tools (including RedWarn) are pretty darn close in regards to "speed" in reverting vandalism. I've used Huggle for many years, and I'm completely comfortable with how it works and how to use it. If I run into another tool that lets me do the same thing as Huggle, and if I were to grow more comfortable with it than Huggle, I'd be using that tool instead. ;-) I don't find myself reviewing edits that are under pending changes often, but it's a good tool to have nonetheless. :-) To answer your question about AIV: I haven't heard of reports getting removed automatically if they sit unanswered for a period of time. There's certainly no bots that do this. I'm wondering if someone removed the reports without responding to it, and if this is the case, that's not what they should be doing... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:49, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, if you take a look at this diff [26], you'll find that my report of the IP got removed automatically by a bot, along with another report filed by another user. The edit summary mentions a "stale" time of 4 hours, this is what I was asking. Ashleyyoursmile! 07:08, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Ashleyyoursmile - Oh wow... I wasn't aware that this was going on... Thanks for letting me know - today I learned! I'm not sure why bots are doing this, but there must've been a discussion somewhere that ruled by consensus that this was necessary. I'm sorry to see that your report was removed. If it's urgent enough, I'd re-add the report and indicate the urgency with it. It looks like the bot removes stale reports if they sit there for a number of hours depending on how many administrators are currently active, as pointed out here. This is something I initially don't agree with, but perhaps there's a compelling reason why we do this... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:14, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, from their contribution log, it looks like the IP has stopped from the mass blanking (which is why I'd reported them yesterday) but have continued making subtle changes to articles related to Blinky Bill; I'm unsure whether to re-report at the moment unless they resort to drastically blanking articles again. Also since their edits do not revolve around BLPs, so I think the report can wait, I'll keep an eye on them though. Thanks for the explanation and willingness to help out. :) Ashleyyoursmile! 07:41, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
