(talk page stalker) As I was the one who reverted it Oshwah, per conversations on the Articles talk the sources from WWE are reliable and should not have been removed, these removals are why the page was semied because of constant IP issues, also I believe this user was a blocked IP, who did nonsense edits just to get confirmed because of the semi placed on The Undertaker as all their edits are their own space except to post to your talk and to remove the retired refrences from The Undertaker article that are sourced. Please note these requests on their talk page and this. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 05:10, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

User:DW...

Hi. I was a bit concerned about the username and the unblock comments (about his brother being killed) when I saw it last night, as they both contain serious unsupported accusations (and I've no idea if they're true - I tried Google but couldn't find anything). But I was too tired to think too much about it. This morning, with a clearer head, I thought it best to rename the account (without a redirect) to get rid of the username, so it's now all at User talk:Renamed user 20170408 01, and I've also redacted parts of the first two unblock requests. As the original edits seemed to me to be a clear attempt to cause harm to the person, I've also reported it to the WMF Emergency email. Would welcome a second opinion - do you think this was the right thing to do? Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:06, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

Actually, I'm beginning to think this might be all a prank, as I can find no sign of the alleged murderer or his alleged address. But better be safe, I think. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:23, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
Boing! said Zebedee - You did exactly the right thing - thank you for taking care of the other logs and what I may have missed :-). I constantly keep an eye on the new user creation logs, and I obviously smelled trouble as soon as that username popped up on the list. I redacted that username from the user creation log and rev del'd the edits as soon as I saw them, but I might have missed the block log. Renaming the user was a good move, too (I don't have that power - else I would have done this myself). When it comes to the "bread and butter" of it all... if a user adds serious BLP issues, possible libel, threats of harm to self or others, or anything serious in that kind of area -- we need to treat these edits as if they were 100% true and 100% serious -- even if we think (or "know") that it's trolling, a complete hoax, or someone just trying to be (what they believe is) "silly". Policies state that we're allowed to err on the side of caution and "redact first, ask questions second" in these exact situations. Given the blatancy of those edits, the username, as well as what the user stated were his/her intentions -- I see no problem at all with what you did :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:55, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
Great, thanks. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 18:43, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
Boing! said Zebedee - Of course; any time. It's good to talk to you again. Hope things are doing well! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:44, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
As an update, I got a message telling me that oversight/suppression is better than renaming, as it leaves fewer traces of the original username behind. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:26, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
I was eventually told that as well. Oh well, least we know for next time ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:28, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

3RR

Hello:) I would like to report that 엠비엔 뉴스특보 has broken 3RR on their talk page. -barrelroll.dev (talk) 05:11, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Users can revert their talk as much as they like. WP:3RR doesn't apply to user pages or user talk pages. You could find yourself blocked for Vandalism if you continue to post the same content to a users page after they have removed it. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 05:27, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
Hi -barrelroll.dev - Users are allowed to revert pages within their own userspace as often as they like, provided that they respect and remain compliant with Wikipedia's user page guidelines. Additionally, if you're restoring warnings that you've left on someone's user talk page that they've removed, please note that removing warnings is allowed within your user talk space. In fact, the deletion can even be considered proof/acknowledgement that the warning message has been read (since they deleted it - they obviously knew it was there). If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask them. I'll be more than happy to answer them. Happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:30, 10 April 2017 (UTC)

I missed 2 others 1 and 2. Might be on commons I'm not sure, requested there too. Thanks Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 07:16, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Explain please?

This is highly suspect and in my decade of editing here I've never witnessed such a thing. First of all, overturning a block without consulting the blocking admin is generally considered to be poor form. Just an FYI there. But that's not the issue. I issued a 24 hour block to two editors who were involved in an edit war. Both had breached 3RR, neither had a block log, so 24 hours for both was standard operating procedure per longstanding precedent and WP:3RR. After 1 minute—1 minute—you show up and reblock one of the editors for 72 hours. Your block rationale doesn't seem to make any sense. The user had not really done anything to receive such an unusually harsh increase in their block, and aside from the edit warring, appeared to be making reasonable edits in good faith. Your block rationale was exceedingly vague and the user themselves doesn't even seem to know why you did that to them. Meanwhile, 11 minutes after implementing an unusually draconian sanction on that editor for no real reason, you completely overturn the block for the other one. That other editor was equally guilty here. Yet they apparently contacted you off-wiki, so you let them off scot-free? Because now they understand 3RR? They didn't seem to have a problem understanding 3RR when they were issuing a warning about it. Or when they were talking about it on your talk page a few days ago. Assuming there is a good reason for this action, I would like to hear it. At face value, it's shockingly unfair behavior that smacks of favoritism. It's evident that you know this user and they're a self-proclaimed talk page stalker of yours. It's hard to believe you undertook this action with no personal opinions in play, and that would make you WP:INVOLVED. Assuming you don't have some key piece of information that I don't, I strongly urge you to unblock the IP. One-sided edit warring blocks are usually not viewed as an acceptable administrator response for obvious reasons and frankly this appears to be highly concerning favoritism from an administrator. Such favoritism is unacceptable. Swarm 07:39, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

  • I'm aware that I may have jumped to the wrong conclusion, and if you have some evidence of socking or past disruption, you will have my sincerest apologies. Swarm 08:22, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Hi Swarm - I'm responding to let you know that I've received your message here. I have a detailed rationale and I'll follow up with an explanation here shortly. Stand by. I might have blocked this IP on accident. I wasn't aware that I extended your block on the IP until your message. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:33, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
Swarm - I'm restoring your original block length of 24 hours on the IP. I'm trying to re-connect my dots here and I think I blocked the wrong IP by mistake. I know that I unblocked TMW, but I did not change or alter the IP's block (well.... not on purpose). I'll follow up in a moment. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:41, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
Swarm - I apologize for not bringing the unblock of the account to your attention or for brushing it by you first. To give you a TL;DR: I've been mentoring and working with WarMachineWildThing for the past couple months or so. I've been trying to help him learn Wikipedia policy and how to resolve disputes and issues properly (after a bit of a rough start on Wikipedia). After his account was blocked for 3RR earlier, he reached out to me and asked why he was blocked. I took the time to clarify and explain the exemptions to him, as well as why his reverts on Stone Cold Steve Austin weren't exempt. He indicated that he understood, and he agreed and promised to stop editing the article, resolve the dispute on the article's talk page, and make no further edits on the article until the dispute is resolved. Because of this, I felt the block was no longer necessary nor preventative and I unblocked his account. I tried to explain my reason as best as I could in the unblock reason, but I may not have been clear or detailed enough.
I'm not sure how I managed to overwrite your block of the IPv6 address; I meant to block a different IP (completely unrelated to this matter) and must've blocked this one by mistake instead. It was accidental and in no ways meant to imply or make administrative decisions with the intent of leaning favorably towards one person, and more harshly toward another. However, I understand how someone (given the changes I made to the blocks) would translate or give that impression. If you still have questions or concerns, please let me know. I definitely want to address your thoughts and concerns and make sure that we're A-OK with everything. Again, I apologize for causing the confusion and the concerns. Thanks again for your messages and for coming to me with your thoughts. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:02, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification, we're totally good. I misunderstood what was happening and I apologize for reacting in an accusatory way. I have nothing but respect for you as an administrator. See you around! Swarm 20:29, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
Swarm - No big deal at all :-). Like I said, I'm glad you came to me with your concerns and that we were able to easily sort it out. I appreciate your kind words; I echo the same respect and friendship as well. Also, it's good to run into you again. It's been quite some time since we crossed paths... Shoot, a year at least... Hope you're doing well and that life is good :-D. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:34, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Beta Kappa Gamma contested deletion

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because it is made for a fraternity that has been running for 17 years. I, along with more than 500 brothers around the United States, are part of this organization. Multiple websites showing brothers are www.betakappagamma.org and bkgbaylor.org . If you wish to check our facebook, instagram or even 501c3 and tax ID to see that we are an officially recognized American non-profit I would love to send it to you. Should you require any more information, please email me at REDACTED — Preceding unsigned comment added by Appie094 (talkcontribs) 09:54, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Appie094 - It looks like you're properly contesting the deletion on the article's talk page - perfect. An administrator will view the article's talk page before deciding whether or not to proceed with deletion. Not to discourage you, but I should also let you know that this article was previously discussed and the decision to delete it was reached here. Let me know if you have any questions. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:09, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
Oshwah - Thank you for your response. I have been working on the website for the past hour and would be very disappointed if my efforts were in vain. The fraternity has grown immensely since 2012 and even the content on the page has resembled that of any other fraternity. In terms of national presence, if you look on school websites like Baylor, UT Austin or LSU, you will find Beta Kappa Gamma's influence on the community. In terms of chapter numbers, there are multiple fraternities and sororities that have less than 7 and ones that only have 1 chapter(local fraternities). Please let me know what I can do to keep my fraternity's name on Wikipedia. I can send the tax ID and 501c3 number to prove that it is an officially established United States Non-profit organization that functions as a multicultural social service fraternity — Preceding unsigned comment added by Appie094 (talkcontribs)

Oshwah how can I keep the Beta Kappa Gamma fraternity wikipedia page from getting deleted? iv'e included numerous news articles but they are still very stubborn Appie094 (talk) 17:05, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
Hi again, Appie094! Unfortunately, there really isn't much you can do. The article was deleted as a result of this AFD discussion. In short, the discussion that came to a consensus that the article doesn't meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines. This isn't judged by examining the article itself, but by performing research and a search for reliable sources that exist and are available to be used. When an article fails to meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines, improving the article or adding more references will not resolve this; it means that the article subject (or in this case, the Beta Kappa Gamma club) isn't something that should have its own article at this point in time. Beta Kappa Gamma could certainly someday become notable if it becomes the subject of multiple references that establish such... but right now, it fails to do so. I'm sorry to give you such bad news... I know that you spent a lot of time on the article and that it meant a lot to you... but what I can do is give you some resources that will help you to determine if the next article you write is notable before you do so! Then, you won't go through that disappointment and feeling that all of your time and work was for nothing. Take a look at Wikipedia:Your first article -- it's a tutorial, wizard, and guide that will walk you through the process of creating an article, show you the guidelines that you should reference and understand, as well as how to check and determine if what you want to write will meet these guidelines. You should use this page until you become familiar and proficient with these guidelines, so that your time isn't wasted in the future. If you have any additional questions regarding the links and explanation I provided you here, please let me know. I'll be happy to answer them and help you further. Don't be discouraged! I created articles when I was new here... and they were also deleted. Everyone goes through this... you're not alone :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:56, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Why are you asking Oshwah? I hard-blocked it because it was a clear attempt to defame. If they want to restore an article they need to ask nicely from their original account, not use an abusively-named sockpuppet. I haven't found the original article, which must have had different capitalization, so I don't know what account was originally used. I assume Oshwah deleted that article, incurring the wrath of OtR. The changes which I made in the Lakshmi Vilas Bank wiki page were discarded by you. I would like to know the reason for that. If you would like me to provide some information on the edits I made then I can give you them (14.140.239.222 (talk) 06:03, 18 April 2017 (UTC))

Regards

Hi there! My apologies for the mistake. I saw this edit and thought you had also added the "ONLY TO OUR COMMUNITY PART". I see now that it was somebody else. I've restored the changes you made to the article. Please let me know if you have any more concerns or if you need anything else. Thanks for leaving me a message and for letting me know. Cheers :-) -- ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:05, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Site Ban

Could you review my comments here, and enforce the site ban on the most recent IP address that edited on the article?--Cahk (talk) 09:02, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi Cahk! I'm reading through the ANI discussions you've linked me, as well as the article's history page to find the coorelation between the problematic IP addresses that were being referred to, as well as the content that the banned person repeatedly changes. It looks like they're all in relation to the section within the article regarding the subject's felony conviction. In that case, there definitely is little question that the IP that just recently edited the article is the banned person. I'm going to finish reading, and take action from there. Won't be long :-). Thanks for the heads up; I'll take care of it! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:15, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
Cahk - I've blocked the IP for block evasion, and applied pending changes protection to the article for one year. This is the best solution to this situation, as it allows anyone to edit the article without restriction while also allowing pending changes reviewers the ability to review, identify, and decline edits made by the site-banned user (and without impacting the revision that is viewed by the general public). Thanks for the message and for the heads up. Please let me know if you see any more disruption by this user, or if I can do anything else for you. Cheers! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:35, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks! Now ... onto the next IP 73.9.140.124. Recently came off a 1 year ban on making legal threats (against me, no less). I won't make any comments as to what the editor has posted as "comment", but I think it's the typical pattern we've seen way too many times last year.--Cahk (talk) 15:30, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
Cahk - I've left a message on both the IP's talk page that you provided here, as well as another on the talk page of the IPv6 address here. This will provide this person with the proper place to go in order to contact the right team and receive help with her particular issue. Hopefully this helps defuse the situation and sends her in the right direction (provided she reads my message and follows my directions). Let me know if I can do anything else to help with this particular situation. I'll be happy to assist :-). Cheers -- ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:08, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Blair Imani/Notability Question

Do you think Blair Imani is notable enough? Blair Imani Jazzybell (talk) 23:14, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi Jazzybell! Welcome to Wikipedia! Looking at the article you created, I'll say that it, without question, makes a credible claim of significance. Without doing the proper research and looking for references (I'm just looking at what you've used in the article), I'd say that the article subject has a high chance of meeting Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Again, this is without doing the proper research myself and just looking at what you've written... I'll say that you've done a great job so far :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:19, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of page I started

Hi,

I was writing a page about a famous philosopher named John J. Stuhr. You can read about him by googling him. Anyway, I wasn't done with the article (I started it I wasn't adding to it!) and some other admin person but a hold on it or something. Then when he released the hold after I explained to him the validity of what I was writing I couldn't get back into the non-html section. So I am starting over, please wait until I am done. This is a real article about a extremely well known person.

Thanks, Mark — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pythias83 (talkcontribs) 03:02, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Pythias83 - According to the edit summary you left with the last edit you made to this article, you said "please delete so I can start over" - were you requesting the article be deleted so you could start over? This is what I interpreted your edit summary to mean. If this is not what you meant, please let me know so I can assist you. Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:07, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
I see, thanks. I appreciate your deletion. But now there is some other notice on there that states
"A page with this title has previously been moved or deleted. If you are creating a new page with different content, please continue. If you are recreating a page similar to the previously deleted page, or are unsure, please first contact the user(s) who performed the action(s) listed below.02:49, 19 April 2017 Oshwah (talk | contribs) deleted page John J. Stuhr (G7: One author who has requested deletion or blanked the page)."
So I was bit confused by this note. But now I understand what to do.
Thanks for your patience! This is my first Wiki article; I am writing it for someone who deserves the recognition because he has helped so many scholars over the years.
Since I am a bit of a novice though, I will read up more about how to write the article correctly.
Again, thanks for your help and patience!!!

Hi again, Pythias83! Because you requested deletion and are just re-creating the article again, you can just ignore that notice and proceed with creating it as you did before. You have nothing to worry about. Please let me know if you have any more questions. I'll be happy to answer them and assist you. Cheers :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:19, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

HI again, sorry to bother you again but the picture of John J. Stuhr cannot be uploaded via Insert_> Media. A window pops up that states: "Something went wrong We could not determine whether this file is suitable for Wikimedia Commons. Please only upload photos that you took yourself with your camera, or see what else is acceptable. See the guide to make sure the file is acceptable and learn how to upload it on Wikimedia Commons." This is just an ordinary photo of the philosopher for whom I am creating this page; I don't know why a "bot" (I assume) stopped it. I cited everything I added. It is actual video of the CNN broadcast that I referenced in my edit. My edit contains nothing that is not in the CNN video. This seems to have been removed by a bot and I ask that it be placed back as I wrote it. Please advise me of the precise issues that induced you to remove my edits.

Hi Oshwah,

I am referring to this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orenda

You just removed an edit I made. If you type the name Orenda in cyrillic in google Оренда you will find hundreds more sources about it and what it actually means in Bulgarian than in English. This is because this word is widely used and if you use google translate you will find out that it has the same meaning as what First Nations gave to it. I find it fascinating that Ancient Bulgarian shamans and First Nations Canadian shamans use the exact same word with the exact same meaning. I think this is important for others to know as well.

Morning Oshwah. Please advise if you can deal with a 3RR edit war or whether I need to follow the official channels of opening a case. It refers to this article on Paubrasilia. Thanks, Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 07:13, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah. Things are under control. We have established dialogue. I am sure you would have helped, but for now things can run their course. Regards, Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 08:12, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
On the other hand I would appreciate you intervention per wp:STATUSQUO. The first time Rui removed the content was a valid edit because the content wasn't referenced, but after the content has been backed by sources, the content should not be removed while not consensus.--Luizdl Talk 23:51, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
Hi Rui Gabriel Correia and Luizdl! So long as you both agree to stop editing the article in a back-and-fourth fashion, and agree to discuss the dispute and not make changes to the disputed area until a consensus is reached, there's no need to take action or "intervene" on anything or anybody. However, if the edit warring continues (by either one of you), I'll be forced to do so. Just keep the agreement made, and have open communication on the article's talk page and there's nothing either one of you need to worry about as far as 3RR or any of that stuff. If either of you have questions about anything, please don't hesitate to ask me. I'll be more than happy to assist in any way that I can. I wish you both good luck with settling the dispute at hand and in a civil manner, and I wish you both happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:59, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Agent Orange

I made that contribution because here it is said that Agent Orange was from Placentia, which is in Orange County.--DeathTrain (talk) 20:09, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

I must ask you why my contribution was not productive, I added the city they originated from. The Wikipedia article for just about every other band mentions the city and not just the county. For example, the article for Social Distortion, another band from Orange County, specifies the exact city they originated from: Fullerton. Why not do the same for Agent Orange? I have already shown through that video that they originated in Placentia, Orange County. It also says on the Adolescents article that Steve Soto, who was an original member of Agent Orange, went to school in Placentia.--DeathTrain (talk) 13:35, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

Because your source is an apparently illegitimate copy of a local late-night, public-access entertainment show posted to youtube by a user who not only can't spell "whose", but doesn't even seem to understand the difference between a comma and an apostrophe. You edit may be accurate, but you didn't even provide a source in it, and when you posted the source here, it's a sketchy source, at best. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 14:46, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

Did you actually bother looking at the edit I made or read the edit note? The quotation in the article as I had found it was incorrect-- it divided the lines up wrong and introduced paragraph indentations where in the book there were none. The information in the article was wrong, and I fixed it; you can see for yourself if you don't believe me (the book is freely previewable on Amazon)... I can't imagine what would have possibly convinced you that my edit was "not constructive" aside from sheer carelessness. Please try to be more diligent in the future. 64.179.181.178 (talk) 00:28, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

(edit conflict) Hi there! Please accept my sincere apologies for the reversion and the confusion I may have caused. I saw this edit, which appeared to me to be the random removal of templates and other wikicode from the page (and with no edit summary). I didn't realize that this edit was only one of the many others that you made on the article. I'm usually good at making sure that I don't accidentally undo changes in this situation (where the change I'm seeing is part of a series of many changes by the same person); it looks like I somehow didn't catch it this time... please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I'll be happy to answer them. I appreciate you for bringing my erroneous edit to my attention, and I hope that my response has at least helped you to understand what my thoughts were and where the mistake rooted from. Invitation to beta-test IABot

Hello Oshwah! I would like to invite you to help beta test the interface for InternetArchiveBot. IABot is a bot designed to help mitigate link rot on Wikipedia. Users can control the bot by using a Management Interface that was designed to be integrated with and similar to Wikipedia (For example, only autoconfirmed users can run the bot; on-wiki administrators have admin access on the tool; user permissions on the tool are flag based; logs are kept; etc.)

If you'd like to help out, feel free to give the interface a go to check for bugs/anomalies/other weird things and send your feedback to Cyberpower678, the bot operator. Again, the interface is at http://tools.wmflabs.org/iabot/ (If it's down for maintenance right now, it'll be back up shortly). If you are not interested, feel free to ignore this message. Racial Fetishism page edits

Hello Oshwah, I am a new Wikipedia user, and I am doing a project for my Women's Studies: Gender, Race, and Sexuality class. My classmates and I were assigned to edit the Racial Fetishism page as it had problems regarding original research and neutrality. Our group also found that this page had issues with organization as the Overview did not do what an Overview is meant to do because it gave a history of the term "fetish" rather than discussing how fetishism is often related to race. With that being said, I tried editing the page by cutting the overview section and adding it to the introduction, and referencing the "fetishism" page rather than belaboring the history of fetishes. When trying to adequately discuss my edit, there was not enough character space to describe what I was trying to accomplish through this edit. How may my group members and I regain access to edit this page? Best, BangMichelle (talk) 00:13, 22 April 2017 (UTC)Michelle Bang

BangMichelle - AHHH!! OKAY!!! That makes a lot more sense now. I see now that you're in a class together. From the top-down, it appeared that there was edit warring going on, as you were all moving content around as others added it, and vice versa. I'll unprotect the page right now. Prinsipe Ybarro - Sorry for the delay following up with you about your message here. Another administrator also added protection to the article to stop it further. If disruption continues on the article, please feel free to let me know or file reports at AIV or RFPP. Paubrasilia (again)

Hi Oshwah, @Lectonar:. Just to let you know. Nothing came of the dialogue between the other editor and myself and unfortunately no-one else has weighed in. For me, without further voices and suggestions on the matter and on how to proceed, I am leaving the article and moving on. However, that should go both ways, but the other editor feels different about it. Actually it would appear that is has now become an obsession, a question of proving a point, seeing that he has done nothing else on the English Wikipedia for almost two months and for two days did nothing else other but this. To me, the shorter this etymology section the better, for it makes no sense to go into such detailed analysis in the article, as I said here, to wit, "The only reason that article has such an extensive etymology section has nothing to do with the tree, but with the unending debate over the |origin of the name Brazil/ Brasil. And the reason for that unending debate is exactly because it is not possible to ascertain for sure what the origin of the name is.". In other words, that level of detail belongs at Name of Brazil, not in other articles about the species. Keep well, Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 11:05, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

Can I ask why you change "pp-pc1|expiry=July 6, 2018" to "pp-vandalism|expiry=03:48, 29 April 2017|small=yes"? This page seems to be a favorite of Dylan's, and has been protected before, which is why it was given a lengthy protection. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kellymoat (talkcontribs) 12:59, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

Kellymoat - Are you asking why I changed the protection level on this article? Or are you just asking about the change I made to the top icon on the article (the edit you were describing above)? The article's protection level was modified on April 22nd due to the high amount of disruption from IPs and different accounts that were occurring at the time. At that point, adding semi protection was necessary... the high volume of disruptive edits were just causing reviewers to have their time wasted, and it was clear that the current protection level that was set wasn't working. Please let me know if you have any more questions. I'll be happy to answer them. Happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:53, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
Admittedly, I don't know one PP from another PP. I just know that the shortened date concerned me because the article is frequently attacked by vandals - which, as previously stated,

was the reason for the original longer time.Kellymoat (talk) 19:00, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Kellymoat - Check out Wikipedia's protection policy. It'll explain to you what each protection means, along with when it's supposed to be applied. Let me know if you have any more questions :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:12, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi there! Thanks for leaving me a message with your request for assistance. You're always welcome to raise concerns by adding a discussion to the article's talk page (click here to go there). If you wish to file a report on a particular noticeboard, doing so and on the correct one will depend on the exact issue that you're noticing within the article... are you saying that the references that some content is citing isn't correct? Or are you saying that there is content that's referenced, but is stating different information compared to the reference that's cited? If you could elaborate further and more in-depth with what you're seeing that is wrong, I'll be able to assist you further and send you in the right direction. Extended confirmed users

Hi Oshwah,

On this page, it says that users with 30 days tenure and made at least 500 edits will be an extended confirmed user. However, does this apply to those who just edit outside mainspace like talk pages and Wikipedia pages? Now, what about those who just do semi-automated tasks like moving 500 pages, using the reFill tool 500 times or undoing 500 edits? Thanks in advance. CubeSats4U 04:48, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

I need some advice

I need a little admin advice, preferably from an uninvolved admin with good judgement, and you fit that bill quite nicely. However, it is a complex situation that will take a wall of text to explain. It is certainly something which would best be asked in confidence, but not an emergency nor related to personal information, and the contents of the exchange may eventually need to be aired out in order to resolve the situation. Would you be upset if I emailed you about it? (Again: it will be a long email; ~12 paragraphs or so, though I will endeavor to trim it up as much as possible.) I'm okay with you saying no, though I have to admit that I'm a little flustered and grasping for a solution right now, and truly hope you're open to hearing me out. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 02:35, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Editing articles for current partisan material

When editing articles, should political edits be removed as vandalism? In the page on the book The Camp of the saints, at the bottom it mentioned how Steve Bannon referenced the book. This seems irrelevant in the great scheme of things as many have referenced the book in the decades since it was published, and it seems like the only reason he was singled out was to damage his name. Or is this relevant information and should be kept?

Joanie Loves Chachi

Hello, I received an NPOV warning message on my talk page and a revert of my constructive edits on Joanie Loves Chachi. Not sure why removing uncited information, and adding a cited assertion, triggered that, but perhaps it was a Huggle false-positive. I'd appreciate hearing from you on the article talk page. 72.201.104.140 (talk) 03:44, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

I reverted your edits here and talked to you about Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy because you appear to remove content from this sentence, and then add "A false" to the beginning of it, meaning that it now reads, "A false urban legend circulated that the show was far more popular in Korea due to "chachi" being similar to a Korean word for 'penis'". This appears to add a non-neutral viewpoint here when you refer to the legend as "false". Please let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:48, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
It is not a non-neutral viewpoint, it is supported by the source cited. I removed content which is uncited and unverifiable. I explained this all on the article talk page. 72.201.104.140 (talk) 03:49, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Question about spacing

Hello,

I am working on updating the Teddy Geiger page. For some reason when I update "album credits" underneath Discography, the chart shows up on the very bottom of the page. How do I have it only show where it needs to be under "artist credits"? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Unmatched777 (talkcontribs) 23:31, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi Unmatched777! I'm taking a look right now for you... usually it's something really small, like a misplaced ending tag or having a bracket in the wrong place. Stand by - I'll let you know in a moment... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:35, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
Unmatched777 - Fixed it! You just forgot to add a closing bracket } to the end of a couple of your tables. Adding those fixed it right up. Thanks! I really appreciate your help. One last thing...

Hi Oshwah!

One last thing, for the Teddy Geiger page, under "EPs" there are two separate charts. The top one that includes "living alone, snow blankets, and step ladder" should be under EPs. And the chart below that one with "for you i will" and "these walls" should be under "Singles", may you please help me move the first chart to underneath "eps"?

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Unmatched777 (talkcontribs) 23:45, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Unmatched777 - Sure thing! Fixed. As before, it was a simple case of missing brackets to mark the beginning and end of each table. Your "singles" table looks like it needs a little polishing in the formatting department, but you're at least all set with the table locations. They're now where you expect them to be. Let me know if you need more help, and I'll be happy to do so :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:51, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Crumpler, West Virginia

Hi.

My information came from a documentary I was watching this morning (with a somewhat distracted eye as I was also busy on the internet) and I believe it was a repeat of a program broadcast yesterday evening on the Belgian TV channel "Canvas". I am not totally sure however, it could be a documentary on a Dutch channel - but I think it was Canvas.

I also don't know if the documentary itself is Belgian or American.

It showed a few inhabitants of Crumpler - a young couple with two children. The father stated they had to survive with 420 US$ a months. Their home's interior looked frankly a bit "overdone" (in the sense that for a young couple with at least a clearly educated wife, it would be unlikely to see that much trash inside a home - such as a camera close-up showing a cigarette butt daubed into some tomato sauce on an uncleaned plate. I didn't mention this in my addition to the Wiki page however as it is my personal opinion.2A02:1811:B214:CA00:BB31:61F5:99C:5605 (talk) 11:41, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah Thanks for your message....I'm afraid I am a bit new to this editing lark and forgot to cite suitable source for the edit. I will do this now Coelo115 (talk) 13:39, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Coelo115 I suggest checking out The Wikipedia Adventure for a cool "tutorial" on how to edit here on English Wikipedia. It is of course optional but would help newcomers, like yourself, edit. Hi Abdog96, and thank you for taking the time to message me about this. Unfortunately, adding content like what you were trying to add here - needs have a reliable source and cited in-line with the content added. This helps establish verifiability with the information, and allows such changes to be easily peer-reviewed and scrutinized (if needed). Please let me know if you have any more questions. This is a garbage edit summary: the edit you reverted had a clear explanation in its edit summary. Don't do that. --JBL (talk) 20:11, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Source for Margarito

http://articles.latimes.com/2009/jan/23/sports/sp-margarito-mosley23/2

It's also on the article talk page. According to the la times article he was born in the us and has am american passport. I've never seen a verifiable source state that he is a citizen of Mexico. If you have that source that's fine but most of these sources just list him as a "mexican fighter" which may just refer to his heritage. Thanks. Danggoshdarn (talk) 23:20, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Why would you revert me like that when I'm acting in good faith. The source is on the articles talk page and in the first non-introductory paragraph. From that article, "And even after Margarito, a U.S. citizen with an American passport, changes his address, that's likely to remain the same."m Danggoshdarn (talk) 23:24, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi Danggoshdarn - It looks like I reverted the wrong edit. It's obvious that you were removing content with that edit, and then I mistakenly reverted it stating that you didn't cite a reliable source... yeah... obviously something dun goofed. I apologize for the mistake. I see that you've restored the edit I reverted; if you need anything else, please do not hesitate to let me know. Thanks for leaving me a message here and for giving me a heads-up about the issue. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:27, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Re: Jadavpur University

Hi!

I removed the entire section of "controversy and criticism" in Jadavpur University wiki page as it is very apparent that it was written by a partisan author. If you look at the wiki page of Jadavpur University, it has been poorly constructed with a huge section dedicated to its history and nothing much following that. There are no sections on its departments or student activities or fests. I remember this page had a very cogent introductory section and a section on its departments and student activities as well as images of various departments. These sections are now missing and have obviously been removed without any editorial supervision. Over the years, this page has been subjected to brutal vandalism, which is not unusual since Jadavpur University has a vibrant liberal arts faculty who dabble in student politics and hence attract a lot of political attention. However, I wish that the page is taken up by the elite authors of wikipedia, who will hopefully ask for contributions for various pertinent sections deemed worthy for a wiki-page of a renowned and historically important Indian institute of learning and protected under its ethics guidelines. The section on "controversy and criticism" is extremely misleading, refers to a single isolated incident and do not deserve a separate section in a poorly constructed article of a major university.

Southern Culture Articl

Gotta fix that bro. You can't start the article off with a whole bunch of qualifiers about Southern culture then at the end of the intro go "this is about white southern culture, for black culture go to the Af-Am Article" that stinks of racism and is ironic since the issue and one of the main sticking points is that Southern Culture is primarily fueled by whites segregating themselves from everyone else in that region. 172.56.10.215 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 00:55, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi GabrielSchimmelpfeng! Great question! What you'll need to do is locate references that are reliable, and then cite these references in-line with the content you're trying to add. When you do this and do so correctly, you'll be absolutely golden and will have made a good improvement to the article. Please let me know if you have any more questions. The Soviets and their "amateur" status

Until 1988, only amateur athletes were allowed to participate in the Olympics. Because of this, NHL players could not compete. This is primarily why the Soviets dominated Olympic hockey from 1956-1988. The Soviet Union had a state sponsored hockey team, that was almost always on par with the talent coming out of the USA and Canada (see the Summit Series, World/Canada Cup tournaments). Because of this, you had athletes who were officially amateur, but were at a skill level close to, or above what professional hockey players were at. I find it very unfair...

Marked for Page Vandelism :o

Hi Oshwah, I have been marked for page vandelism of the page on Queen's College, Guyana by ClueBot NG, then was made aware that he's a bot so I decided to interact with you instead seeing that you'd sent me the first messages on my editing of the said page. Apparently the issue was that I had not included references pertaining to the changes I'd wanted to make (which pertained to the school's rankings). I then looked up the links and attempted to include them in the edit. At this point cluebot stepped in and marked me for vandelism of the page and began automatically reverting my edits to the original version.

Please help, the edit I'd like to make is a very valid one.

Thanks! Qcgraduate (talk) 01:38, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Qcgraduate. There's a couple of things you need to be aware of. First, any information added to an article needs to be Neutral, verifiable and supported by reliable sources. Second, you should really check out WP:MOS because the formatting of some of your edits at that page was pretty bad. It happens with newer editors, things can be pretty complicated sometimes.
The other thing is that your username seems to indicate a possible conflict of interest with respect to Queen's College. If this is true, you should declare your conflict of interest and, instead of directly editing the article (except for very minor stuff such as grammar and spelling), stick to posting requests for other editors to fulfill or decline on the article talk page. Good edit requests, regardless of the source, are usually done quickly. When an editor takes issue with a request, they will almost always explain why and suggest an alternative. I hope this helps. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 14:13, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

Explanation requested

Could I bother you for an explanation as to why you declined my AIV report against Hassantaiwo? This editor has been blocked twice already for repeatedly creating the article on Afolabi Timothy, and the first thing they do upon returning to editing is to recreate the article. This looks like a pretty straightforward block to me. Sir Sputnik (talk) 03:21, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

Sir Sputnik - I felt that the creation of the article was the center of the concerns raised, so I simply deleted it. The only block on this account was due to abusing multiple accounts, which had nothing to do with the article re-creation nor the concerns expressed at AIV. I err'd on the side of holding off on further action, and I simply deleted the article. If the user engaged in additional re-creations, I felt that action could easily be taken then. In a nutshell, I felt that this was the appropriate way to handle the report at the time. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to answer them. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:13, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
Sir Sputnik - Since the report is still at AIV, I'm going to remove my response and let another administrator take a look so that a collective decision can be reached. Hopefully this will adequately address your concerns. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:25, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
Done. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:27, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
It is true that "The only block on this account was due to abusing multiple accounts", but that is not the only block of this editor. An editor who has been repeatedly blocked for doing the same thing, and then does it again, should normally be blocked, usually for longer than before. It makes no sense to let an editor get away with things because the block was on another account when doing it with the same account would have led to a block: if anything, the fact that a sockpuppet has been used makes a block more reasonable. I therefore agree with Sir Sputnik, and I have blocked the account for a month. In view of an earlier warning that continuing in the same way might lead to an indefinite block, that seems to me to be fairly minimal. • Having read that IP's Contributions I'd say it's likely they probably were a troll. That said, there are legitimate reasons for anonymous editors to know about ANI (Anon foes not imply newbie, anon not new does not imply sock etc), so I'd question your judgement in rushing to close that thread. IP even has a point to an extent - Oshwah, you're insane man, haha! 78.40.158.52 (talk) 06:06, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
L3X1 - Seemed like you handled things just fine. If they're an admitted sock puppet, WP:DENY ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:22, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
