Allsides is a web site that classifies media sources on a political bias spectrum. The site is run by founder and editor John Gable.[1]
Background[edit]
In the summer of 2012, Allsides, "starting out" focusing the 2012 election.[1] Initial coverage featured on Allsides included the "Benghazi attack, abortion and the candidates’ efforts to win the votes of women."[1] Initially, Gable was more focused on politics but he hoped that major search engines, such as Google and Bing, would feature Allsides so users could My hope ultimately is to become part of the algorithms that Google or Bing uses, so when you search on a particular issue, you don’t get only the most popular or best marketed or funded, but you actually see different perspectives, as opposed to the "most popular or best marketed or funded."[1]
Allsides lays out stories like a "regular news site". Each story includes article headlines and links lined up under the designation Allsides had assigned them, based on the their view point—left, right or center.[1]
Classifications and methodology[edit]
AllSides uses its own proprietary methods to determine rankings on the left-center-right political spectrum based on factors such as "blind bias survey", "third party analysis", "editorial review", "community feedback", and "independent research".[2][3] Allsides does not claim accuracy.
