RMAS Kinterbury A378New article name goes here Laid down in November 1980 and launched in 1981, at Appledore Ship Builders, North Devon. Sister ship RMAS Arrochar. 71m LOA, 2,100 GTR. Arrochar was laid up early to save £1.2m a year. In January 2000, Kinterbury had an equipment failure and ran into a Firth of Forth armanants jetty at 8 knots, loaded with munitions. Her 'crumple zones', designed for such an instance, allowed the cargo to remain in tact. She was repaired in Leith. Disposed of in 2005 and converted with a 4m² moon pool and a Class 1 DP system. She was first renamed Deepworker. She is now owned by Atlantic Marine andAviation and renamed Atlantic Explorer. She has a gantry over the moon pool, from which a Remotelt Operated Gran Excavator and ROV guidance unit, with a 25 ton lift capacity, is fitted. The wonch can have 4,000 of umbilical hoist cable.
