Gymnasium am Ostring

The Gymnasium am Ostring is the oldest gymnasium in Bochum. It was founded in 1860.

The school is located in the Bochum city center close to the main train station.

In the school year 2005/2006 there were 786 students and 55 teachers. In the early 80s the school had over 1,000 students. The peak enrollment was 1,310 in the 1980/81 school year.

In humanistic tradition the school offers Latin, ancient Greek, and Hebrew. The school also offers English, French, modern Greek, and Spanish.

In August 2010 the Gymnasium am Ostring will merge with the Albert-Einstein-Schule to form the Neues Gymnasium Bochum. In the summer of 2012 the school will relocate to a new site.
