Frank Kortan (born April 22, 1964 in Prague, Czech Republic) is a German painter, who works in style of Surrealism, Fantastic realism and trompe-l'oeil. He lives in Egloffstein Bavaria, Germany.

Kortan started his professional artistic career in Prague, Czechoslovakia, as a musician. In 1984 he emigrated to Tessino, Switzerland, after one year he moved to Germany. He met there an artist group, who worked in style and technique of "Trompe-l'oeil". He was fascinated by this style and technique, which was already used by the old masters, as it creates the illusion of reality, painted objects appear three-dimensional. Kortan studied this technique and style very intensively but developed this further due to combination with Surrealism and Fantastic Realism, influenced also by his friend, the austrian painter Ernst Fuchs.

He painted a lot of historical personalities such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Sebastian Bach, Peter Paul Rubens or Franz Kafka in his specific style, as well as contemporary personalities, such as the israeli writer Ephraim Kishon.

Frank Kortan's works are in several public as well as private collections. His oil paintings have been seen in numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world.
