User: Metricator[edit]

Professional[edit]

Metricator has worked professionally in chemistry, physics, nuclear engineering, U.S. Naval submarine operations, and metric system issues. He has retired from most of those but is still active in standards development work with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the American Welding Society (AWS), as well as running a business as a metrication consultant. He is on the Metric Committee (A.1) of the AWS. He is the chair of the IEEE Standards Coordinating Committee 14 (SCC 14), which oversees proper usage of the metric system in IEEE standards and which provides several related standards itself. He is also the vice chair of the joint IEEE/ASTM committee for maintaining IEEE/ASTM SI 10, which is the American National Standard (ANSI) for proper use of the metric system (SI) in the United States. Additionally, he serves on the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (U.S. TAG) to IEC Technical Committee 25 and ISO Technical Committee 12.

Personal[edit]

Metricator and his wife, also retired, are building on old family farmland in Middle Tennessee. They are making a gentle effort to become engaged in hobby farming. Hopefully, they will at least eat well. So far they are raising garden produce, chickens (for eggs and ???), and many new fruiting trees and bushes. Canning and dehydrating produce makes some of their products available through the winter.
