John Parker Romo[edit]

John Parker Romo is a professional American football kicker who currently plays for the San Antonio Brahmas[1] in the XFL. He previously played for the New Orleans Saints and Virginia Tech Hokies.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Romo was born on August 27, 1997, in Peachtree City, Georgia.[2] He attended McIntosh High School, where he played football, soccer, and ran track and field. He was a two-year letterman and made First-team District for place kicker and punter. Romo graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor's degree in economics and is pursuing a Master’s in instructional technology[2]

College Career[edit]

After graduating from high school, Romo played college football at Central Arkansas and Tulsa as a walk-on[3]. He later transferred to Virginia Tech where he spent his last 3 years of college. At Virginia Tech, he was named All-ACC Third Team by Pro Football Focus and a during his senior season in 2021.

During the 2017 season at Central Arkansas He Averaged 56.0 yards per kick on 44 kickoffs.[2] After that he tranfered to Tulsa where he didnt play in 2017 but in 2018 he Averaged 61.1 yards per kickoff with 28 touchbacks and made 2 Field goals with a long of 34 yards.[2]He then transfered to Vergina Tech for the 2019 to 2021 seasons.

In 2021, he made 18 of 22 field goals, including seven of nine from 40+ yards. He also made all 34 of his PATs, finished the season with 88 total points, and had 64 kickoffs with 30 touchbacks. In 2020, he handled kickoff duties in all 11 games, kicked off 55 times with 35 touchbacks, and had an average of 62.7 yards per attempt. In 2019, he served as Tech's kickoff specialist in all 13 games. He had 69 kickoffs with 46 touchbacks and an average of 64.1 yards. He had six touchbacks in a game on three different occasions and also subbed for an injured punter, hitting eight punts for 354 yards (44.3 avg.) with a long of 58 and two inside of the 20.[2]

Personal life[edit]

Aside from his football career, Romo is also an entrepreneur. Romo is married to his wife Lauren Mackenzie. He is the son of Brenda and Jimmy Romo and has two older siblings, Austin and Sara.

In 2022, Romo signed with the San Antonio Brahmas in the XFL, where he is expected to be a key player for the team.[4]
