Corporate culture[edit]

Corporate culture
  • Cargo cult - leading the way in human thought  ;-)
  • Cargo cult programming - "McConnell describes software development organizations that attempt to emulate more successful development houses, either by slavishly following a software development process, or by taking a commitment-oriented development approach." related to Cargo cult science.
How could this perpetuate? - People in organisations deciding it's all a good idea by the Group think mechanism and peer pressure to conform with Organisational fit.
Communism likened to the largest Cargo Cult ever known - e.g., aping steel production, just because the West were measuring leading indicators of economic rise and fall by closely watching steel production as that measure.
Danger of management-by-statistics when Gartner's approach of true-ing up different organisations by comparative measures, e.g., Balanced scorecard - interpretation of these measures needs to be taken in the light of humans' prediliction to fall into the cargo cult trap. For more such "damned lies and statistics", see the annual survey of management tools undertaken by Bain & Company
Appearance isn't what it seems - the Wall Street insistence on pressurising corporates to show in their quarterly accounts consistent stable growth led Enron to do just that, "show" a creative-accounting fraudulent fictitious set of accounts. Cult-like behaviour with employee rallies led employee's into wishful thinking that it was all true. The ensuing collapse has been portrayed in popular culture - The_Crooked_E:_The_Unshredded_Truth_About_Enron, etc.
Some organisations keep a register of intra-company relationships; one reason for a Love contract procedure is that the company has to pay when managers get sued for sexual harrassment if they end an affair. Strange times.

Yin and Yang of corporate life[edit]

Learned helplessness vs. Learned industriousness

Wikipedia's raison d'etre[edit]

The Mitsubishi Pajero (/pəˈɛr/; Spanish: [paˈxeɾo]; Japanese パジェロ [padʑeɽo])[1][2] is a sport utility vehicle manufactured by Mitsubishi. It was named after Leopardus pajeros, the Pampas cat, which is native to the Patagonia plateau region of southern Argentina.[3] But pajero in Spanish is also a common term of abuse, usually translated as "wanker" or "tosser", thus perhaps why alternative names have been used for many markets. It is known as the Mitsubishi Montero (meaning "mountain hunter"[4]) in the Americas (except Brazil and Jamaica), Spain, and India, while in the United Kingdom it is known as the Mitsubishi Shogun.

Tom Cruise is manic in another video[edit]

"Message to Scientology" video (January 21, 2008)

On January 21, 2008, Anonymous announced its goals and intentions via a video posted to YouTube entitled "Message to Scientology", and a press release declaring "War on Scientology", against both the Church of Scientology and the Religious Technology Center.[5][6][7] In the press release, the group stated that the attacks against the Church of Scientology would continue in order to protect freedom of speech and to end what they characterized as the financial exploitation of church members.[8]

The Tom Cruise video is referred to specifically at the start of the Anonymous YouTube video posting, and is characterized as a "propaganda video".[9][10] The video utilizes a synthesized voice and shows floating cloud images using a time lapse method as the speaker addresses the leaders of Scientology directly: "We shall proceed to expel you from the Internet and systematically dismantle the Church of Scientology in its present form..."[11] The video goes on to state: "We recognize you as serious opponents, and do not expect our campaign to be completed in a short time frame. However, you will not prevail forever against the angry masses of the body politic. Your choice of methods, your hypocrisy, and the general artlessness of your organization have sounded its death knell. You have nowhere to hide because we are everywhere... We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us."[7] By January 25, 2008, only four days after its release, the video had been viewed 800,000 times, and by February 8, 2008, had been viewed over 2 million times.[5][12][13][14]

Kurt Vonnegut described himself variously as a skeptic,[15] freethinker,[16] humanist,[16] Unitarian Universalist,[17] agnostic,[15] and atheist. Earth hath not anything to show more fair

On the heath, just to the east of Kenwood house, is a small pagoda sheltering an informational brass plate. The plate bears an inscription of Wordsworth's poem "Earth hath not anything to show more fair", written about the view of London you can see from that point.

Beautiful[edit]

Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue,
and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true
Some day I'll wish upon a star
and wake where clouds are far away behind me
A desert traveler seeks the assistance of God the Merciful, the Compassionate
With great power, comes great responsibility

I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid. You're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin. I'm going to hang up this phone, and then I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world.. without you. A world without rules or controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you.

Litanies - sociopaths[edit]

A useful litany whenever dealing with recruitment agents or estate agents…

If most of the population is generally trusting and gullible, the behaviour of being a "cheater" (or, in the extreme case, a sociopath) may be advantageous.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolutionary_psychology#Personality

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychopathy#Sociopathy

Sociopaths differ in sense of right and wrong from the average person.

Sociopathy may represent an evolutionarily stable strategy, by which a small number of people who cheat on social contracts benefit in a society consisting mostly of non-sociopaths.

Caveat emptor! (buyer beware)

Lessons not to forget[edit]

Dysfunctional families... the Abilene paradox theory is used to illustrate that groups not only have problems managing disagreements, but that agreements may also be a problem in a poorly functioning group.
