Re: Question (Badges)

You seem to have a point about Royal Canadian Air Force and the Royal Air Force badges and that can be fixed once more. My question then would be, those who were members of the RCAF and RAF as pilots during World War II, did they earn some type of "wings"? Tony the Marine 03:51, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Hey Tony. The RAF and RCAF (and other Commonwealth Air Forces) were given cloth uniform patches ("wings") after they qualified to be pilots or whatever. They were part of the uniform like rank patches and were never removed. You can see a typical WWII RAF/RCAF pilot's wings patch in the picture here: George Beurling. Pilots had a patch with two wings, while other positions such as bomb aimer, air gunner or navigator had similar patches with one wing, and usually a letter or letters (e.g. AG for air gunner) in the center signifying his position. Canada's and Britain's air forces still work that way. The RCAF and RAF badges that you placed in your article are not badges that are sewn onto a uniform and are not associated with any rank, position, honor, or merit award; they are essentially fancy logos that are symbols of the two air forces much like the seal of the USAF. The term "badge" for the air force "logos" is a misnomer; they should be referred to as emblems or insignias. Cheers.--BC 06:28, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Tony, I would visit http://jfchalifoux.com/aircrew_wings.htm for a selection of RCAF patches. There are all kinds of them, and you'll have to know what his position was and when etc. For more info, you could email the webmaster at jfchalifoux@shaw.ca with as many details as possible. I'm sure he'll be able to help you out. He'll know much more than I about RCAF patches. If you can find a photo of the serviceman with the patches, that would make your job a lot easier. Obviously you want to find the right patch so that the article is as accurate as possible. I couldn't find anything about RAF patches but a good thorough Google search may come up with something. Tony what we have here is a war that's apparently fueled by ethnic conflicts between two sockpuppeters, the anon and EdwinCasadoBaez have been violating WP:CIVIL on the Dominican Republic's talk page (see the uncivil conversation at the very bottom of this archived page) and have aparently been edit warring with socks,the anon opened this case because he wants EdwinCasadoBaez to be blocked for this violations but he wasn't blocked for them, so I am supporting a double block for severe violations of the civility policy. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:54, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for you note on my page. You understand the concern of the Feature Article editors in that they do not want articles that are not neutral in viewpoint. However, I realize that many articles do have a viewpoint anyway, such as Mary: A Fiction, currently an FAC which no one seems to object to but me! I hope you take the editors' objections seriously and remove any extravagant language. Writing for Wikipedia is not like writing for a magazine that is willing to tolerate an opinion piece. That is my concern here. I would like to see your article pass, but if it doesn't that does not mean that the article is not worthy. Clearly many people are enjoying it. EdwinCasadoBaez puppet case

Upon speaking to Akhilleus, he suggested that I may ask you to have my account unblocked if I were to agree to be on my best behavior. [2] I do agree to it and have been on my best behavior. There have been no issues on my end. Akhilleus stated that wikipedia is inconsistant which is what i questioned considering that i was blocked and edwincasadobaez wasn't. All I asked for was fairness and equality. Something that I think all American's strive for. Would you please unblock my account? If you see any further disruptions I won't even question you blocking my account for good. Do you have good references that support your point of view? If you do, then use them. They have to be from a reliable, unbiased, third-party source. Another way to go would be to let User:AnonEMouse have his way as this will lead to Feature Article status. Do you think the issue is important enough to make a big issue of now, since User:AnonEMouse is actually helping your article a lot in other ways? If User:AnonEMouse votes yes, then that will cinch it with others. You can always change the article later, after all this ruckus has died down. I do know that agreeing with the major Feature Article editors, of which User:AnonEMouse is one, is the road to Feature Article status. Regards, Mattisse 19:48, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
User:AnonEMouse is using the US Census definition as of 1993. It would apply to any census data you reference in your article. That is a better source than most. The problem is that the US census did not have a clear understanding. Perhaps you can write another article on this issue. Or change the current one in the future. I think your current article is important enough that, if I were you, I would overlook it for now. I know that is hard to do, but in the end to overlook it now is the best chance for your current article to become a Feature Article, in my opinion. Regards, Mattisse 20:08, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
I agree with your last message to me. I worked on the Census 2000 and a lot of people when asked what race or "ancestry" they were would answer "human" or "American" or something else that wasn't on the form and so had to be checked "other". I work in a state with a large Hispanic population, and the state itself does not have a "Hispanic" category. The state's point of view is that "Hispanic" is a culture, not a race. You are an admin....

If in your judgement a user (User:YoSoyGuapo) has redeemable qualities, and is willing to help wikipedia by all means unblock. It looks like he was banned by the community (the indef block). Per the banning policy, any admin can lift the ban. So yeah, go for it. :) I'll let you lift the ban yourself. (rather I don't even have to let you! Default

It means that images are not supposed to have a size but to be set at default. (I think this is controversial and I noticed the editor of the Song Dynasty just now said "forget that" and went through his article and set some sizes.) But theoretically, it is an FA rule that the image is set at |thumb| but no size after it. If you want I can go through and set yours at default, or you can wait until someone mentions it. I made two images smaller than default as they seemed so big. One is the Purple Heart - it was too big at default. And Sgt. Ramos Calero, he was too big also. With Sgt. Ramos Calero I am not sure I got the size right. Also, there is something wrong with Footnote 4. It sprawls across the footnotes. When people question your article sources or emphasis, it may help you to point out that User:AnonEMouse, who is an experienced FAC editor and a neutral party (not Hispanic), vetted the entire article, checking references, material emphasized, and everything else. That is why a neutral party is so important as there are always persons with a particular point of view who are going to complain. Your main page date request

Hi, I removed your request for September 23, 2007 for Hispanic Americans in World War II on the front page, with the reason of "This is the date that PBS will air "The War" a WW II documentary by Ken Burns, which omitted the contributions of Hispanic Americans." In that section, it states in bold that "there may be no more than five requests in this section at any time." Additionally, you added it to the top of the list under "first request," when that space is already occupied and you should file it under "fifth request" when that space becomes available. Note that this is an MOS guideline. From the disclaimer on the page that outlines what is meant by guideline (bold mine):
This might be a case where an exception is in order — and consensus on the list's talk page will be where this can be discussed. The moving editor didn't discuss. You could leave a note on the mover's talk page and note that it is a guideline and please discuss it on the talk page. On that vein, is there a better word to use than "famous"? See that "noted" (and notable would be similar) are also exceptions. "Celebrity" is not precise.

Thanks for the medal, but again, the real credit goes to User:Demf. With almost 400 edits to the article, he really sacrificed his time to get it just right. Certainly, the article is a complete list with a interesting introduction, if there is nothing you are considering to add I could nominate it myself. About Trinidad I have always been reluctant to work it to GA because it has been a POV magnet and ground for edit wars during the time I have been here, but since he is returning on January I think its going to be on my list for the last months of the year, not October though I want to work with Chupacabra between now and then, about the bizarre legal threat what worried me was the fact that he said he was going to call a lawer, I doubt he will but you never know. - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:19, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

It seems a little complicated, the center template is denying my attempts to move the text, I tried adding a invisible dummy table to move the main table left without the center template but it didn't worked, I'm really not sure how to avoid the center's template influence over the table.
