Apple trees at Fishkill Farms

Fishkill Farms is an apple orchard located in Hopewell Junction New York, a hamlet of East Fishkill.

History[edit]

Fishkill Farms was bought in 1913 by Henry Morgenthau Jr. [1] Morgenthau abandoned his plans of becoming an architect in order to pursue farming. The farm originally produced apples, chickens, and dairy. [1] The farm was passed down to Morgenthau's son, Robert Morgenthau. A hailstorm in 1980 rendered the fruit unsellable to wholesale distributors so Robert opened up the orchard for U-pick and was greeted with wild success. The farm has been doing U-pick ever since.[2]
