Esther Kartiganer (b. January 14, 1938 – August 1, 2012) was a television news producer with CBS' 60 Minutes production.[1] While notable for her role in creating numerous documentary works, she is best-known for her role in a 2004 segment that cast aspersions on President (and then-candidate) George W. Bush's Vietnam War-era military service.[1]
NYT: "Esther Kartiganer was born in Berlin on Jan. 14, 1938, to Harold and Lily Wolkowitz Kartiganer. She was 1 year old when the family immigrated to the United States to escape the Nazis. Ms. Kartiganer graduated from Brandeis in 1959 with a degree in political science. She played on the Brandeis women’s basketball team, which was undefeated during the 1955-56 season. In 1964, after working for a political polling firm, she was hired as an office assistant at CBS. She rose through the ranks, helping to produce documentaries."[1]
Awards and Legacy[edit]
- Brandeis University established in 2007 the Esther Kartiganer Prize for Excellence in Journalism and Women’s and Gender Studies, awarded annually to a Brandeis student.[1]
