Primary Education

There are 79 primary schools throughout the Dudley borough, providing education for pupils aged 4 to 11 years. Some schools also have nursery units for pupils aged 3 and 4 years. Apart from in Stourbridge and Kingswinford, which have a traditional 4-11 and 7-11 infant and junior system, all schools in the borough serve pupils aged from 4 to 11 years.

There are currently 21 secondary schools in the borough, five of which are academies. All of Dudley's secondary modern and grammar schools were replaced by comprehensive schools in 1975, and since that date all state secondary schools in the borough have been comprehensive.

The Bishop Milner School was the first Roman Catholic secondary school to be built in the borough, and also one of the first in the West Midlands as a whole.

Further Education

King Edward VI College, Stourbridge

There are three further education colleges in the Dudley borough: Dudley College of Technology, Stourbridge College, and Halesowen College. There are also several sixth-form centres at various borough schools, as well as a specialist sixth-form centre at King Edward VI College.

At present, there are no university facilities within the borough, making it the largest borough in the United Kingdom without a university, although several colleges do offer higher education courses. Though there was formerly a campus of the University of Wolverhampton in Dudley, it was closed in 2002 to fund investment in campuses in other areas.

Special Schools

There are seven special schools within the Dudley Metropolitan Borough, serving both primary and secondary age children with a variety of special educational needs. The Old Park School serves pupils from the age of 3 to 19, along with Pens Meadow School, while schools such as Rosewood School and The Sutton School specifically cater for secondary age pupils.

Primary and Secondary education

Dudley is served by a range of primary schools, including a number of church schools such as Jesson's Church of England Primary School and St. Chad's Roman Catholic School. Nearly all primary schools in the town provide education for pupils aged 4 to 11 years, with the exception of schools in Kingswinford, which operate a traditional 4-11 infant and 7-11 junior system.

The town's secondary schools are all comprehensive schools, replacing the older secondary modern and grammar schools in 1975. Bishop Milner Catholic School was built in 1958 to provide the first Roman Catholic secondary school in Dudley.

Further education in the town is provided by Dudley College, with the main campus situated to the north of the town centre and additional sites throughout the area. New college buildings are currently under development, with the intent to relocate all facilities into the town centre.

There was formerly a campus of the University of Wolverhampton in the town, which was closed in 2002. The newer part of the campus was retained by Dudley College, while the site of the older buildings was redeveloped for private housing.

Dudley also has several special schools, catering for both primary and secondary age pupils.
