It's so hard to get involved[edit]

It's so hard for new people to get involved. People have different ideas about what is an acceptable improvement.

Does providing limited information to related subjects on a subject that does not exist in Wikipedia acceptable? No in the English Wikipedia, if you do this, your edit will be rolled back, and your effort will be lost. They hate red links so much that they require you to write the article first.

There are piles of long guides and instructions about the do's and don'ts. The key idea seems to be "do the hard thing first". Does minor improvements like correcting spell mistakes acceptable? I don't know. But I know it's not acceptable on StackOverflow. Will I do that? It depends on how much effort it takes, as it might be rolled back later. And for a non-English native, it takes more effort to do all the editing and verification on that edit before submitting.

It is a risky activity to edit in the English Wikipedia for me. And will this be deleted by someone, refering to another policy or guide I don't have time to read?
