The 2005 Chevy American Revolution 400 was a NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race held on 14 May 2005 at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virginia . Contested over 400 laps on the 0.75 miles (1.21 km) short track , it was the eleventh race of the season . Kasey Kahne driving the No 9 Dodge for Evernham Motorsports won the race , Tony Stewart finished second and Ryan Newman came in third .

Richmond International Raceway is one of five short tracks to hold NASCAR races; the others are Bristol Motor Speedway, Dover International Speedway, Martinsville Speedway and ISM Raceway .[3] NASCAR makes use the standard configuration of the track which is a short track 0.75 miles (1.21 km) long. The track's turns are banked at fourteen degrees. The front stretch, the location of the finish line, is banked at eight degrees while the back stretch has two degrees of banking. The racetrack has seats for 97,912 spectators. [4] . Before the race Jimmie Johnson was leading the points standings with 1519 points , 127 ahead of Jeff Gordon in second . Greg Biffle was third with 1371 points , 81 ahead of Kurt Busch in fourth . Elliott Sadler was,in fifth place with 1267 points , 41 in front of Mark Martin in sixth . Tony Stewart was seventh in the Championship with 1222 points , five ahead of Jamie McMurray , who was a further five points ahead of Dale Earnhardt Jr. in ninth .
