I'm with you. I think this is just a gossip item on the same level as the ones that said Sean Connery had filmed a cameo for DAD. We already have fairly good sources saying they're doing to those 4 guys so maybe this was an old item or the writer just made it up. But the fact it comes from the Times gives it some credence (moreso than the Australian gossip page originally cited) so I guess we have to include it for now. I hope O'Lachlan's 20 days estimate is true as this is starting to get ridiculous. PS. it's it strange that the mainstream media hasn't picked up on Connery's return to the role for the video game? Thunderball FAC

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner on this. I'm moving house this week so my time on Wikipedia has been rather limited (I basically hop on now and then for a break from lifting boxes). I think another FAC attempt for Thunderball should be OK. I will try and give it a more thorough look soon. I think a more specific article like this probably has a better chance of being accepted than something more broad like James Bond since it's clear folks don't want list-heavy and fact-heavy articles to be FAC (some of the objections I recall from earlier were repeated with similar articles that, by necessity, had to include lists). Be sure to mention that this is the 40th anniversary of the film: that might provide an extra hook to having it featured. PS. Bond girl article

You might want to fine-tooth-comb the recent edits to the Bond girls article. Most of them seem to be OK, but the "Chosen People" addition makes me have doubts. I reverted that part but haven't had time to go through for any other potentially dubious changes. Speaking of reverts, regarding the revert made to GoldenEye, the term parody was used by CNN when they covered the "big shocking revelation" last week that Brosnan was through as Bond. Just as a follow-up, the fellow who posted the "Chosen people" item got back to me and says he felt that enumerating the Jewish actresses on the list was a worthy trivia item. I disagreed, as we might as well break them all down by religion and that has nothing to do with James Bond. Hey there. Congratulations, you've just been made a sysop! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except junk like "aojt9085yu8;3ou BOB IS GAY"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. I appreciate your interest in keeping Wikipedia "clean"; please assume good faith. I think your issue is with me respecting the following - quoted from WP:NOT, Wikipedia is not:

"Mere collections of external links or Internet directories. There is nothing wrong with adding to an article a list of content-relevant links; however, excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of Wikipedia."

I generally agree with this - "there's nothing wrong with adding to an article [] content-relevant links". My link is clearly "content-relevant".

When looking into this further (I truly do want to "do the right thing"), I found the external links topic and believe my link satisfies the criterion described in the "Maybe OK to add" section, potentially as a "Web directory" (I do maintain [a directory of these games], but at least as a "Fan site". I want to play by the rules and better the Wikipedia community - but I think I am.

I see you've reverted my contribution to the Alias_(TV_series) topic, without any discussion - the same behavior to take if I were a vandal spraying graffiti. I think that's a dangerous precedent; IMHO, decisions of this sort should be made by "the community".

The Alias topic is the only topic that has provided any negative feedback on my contribution, and if "the Alias wikipedia community" decides to drop the link, I say "great!" Majority wins, that's the beauty of Wikipedia! But enforcing an opinion that these external links is bad without giving the community an opportunity to voice their opinion is bad precedent.

Ico -> ICO

Hi, I'm wondering why you changed the title of the game to a capitalized "ICO" when I already capitalized it according to the naming conventions for trademarks (see talk page). Articles such as Doom have also followed such conventions. --Poiuyt Man ^talk 14:21, 22 August 2005 (UTC)

I think the MCI example is just showing that it's inappropriate to lowercase most acronyms, since it's against standard English conventions. Commonplace words, such as in the REALTOR example, are only capitalized for advertising purposes, and doing so doesn't add to the informative value of the article. Ico may fall in a gray area since it's not a real word; it's the name of the character. As far as I know, it's not an acronym, and names aren't usually in full caps in English. The "Ico" capitalization also seems to be common on major game review sites. A footnote explaining the official capitalization might work, as it was done with the Doom article. --Poiuyt Man ^talk 07:25, 23 August 2005 (UTC)

Hey there. I made sure to read the "What Wikipedia is not" section to make sure that my links to OverClocked ReMix's unofficial video game music arrangements site were fine in the scope of Wikipedia, which I feel were ok from my POV. I added them to several video game composer/musician Wiki entries earlier, and planned to add them to games currently represented on that site. OC ReMix is completely free & non-profit and was created to honor the soundtracks and musicians of the various games there [1], the music considered by many to be integral to these games, so I feel there are content-relevant.

All material at OC ReMix is fan-created, much like other fan sites devoted to certain games or game series. The music is submitted there and evaluated for quality/creativity standards, and there are also some arrangements given to the site by professional video game music composers such as The Fat Man, Dave Govett, Joe McDermott, and Jeremy Soule. The site has also been supported verbally by other professional video game musicians including John Romero, Tommy Tallarico, Hiroki Kikuta, and David Wise. So on that level, I certainly want to stress that there is no profit-motive and spamming was unintended. I also saw that another user, Rmrfstar, felt these links were relevant. I do feel these are content-relevant link additions, but want to know how they can instead be used in a way that's not considered linkspamming.

Would applying the links to broader topics such as systems (NES, SNES, etc.) or video game musicians be acceptable? Thanks for your clarification, and apologies for getting off on the wrong foot, as I don't intend to do anything ban-worthy. I certainly appreciate Wikipedia. Liontamer 04:59, 24 August 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, it's more of a fan thing, as you know, to have the movies in chronological order. It's the same way with the Star Wars films. They have been put in chronological order on the page, rather than the order they were made, by the fans. • My personal take is that minor characters in series films should go on the page for the film. With Bond films, which are loosely based on novels, I'd bend if the "minor" character played a necessary part in the development of both the book and the film, or appeared in more than one film. Civility: a new concept?

One of the requirements of Wikipedia is that you show courtesy and civility to other contributors. And as an administrator you are expected to meet higher standards than others and to set an appropriate example. You are not expected to start edit wars or rant at other people. And you are not expected to repeatedly remove information just because you don’t like it or don’t understand it.

And never use edit summaries to attack me or anyone else. Edit summaries are an important tool for WP editors. It is a serious abuse to misuse them to rant at other users, as you have done several times. Also refrain from constantly using capitals to make a point. I am sure you know this is considered to be SHOUTING, and further lowers standards of civility. Please begin by acquainting yourself with Wikipedia:Civility.

Wikipedia is a collaborative project and it requires users to have some respect for other contributors. If you find yourself unable to meet at least the basic standards of courtesy required then don’t use this site at all. JW 14:40, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

FFVI FAC

I was wondering what your opinion is on something. FFVI is a FAC (See Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Final Fantasy VI). However the infobox uses a logo and not the boxshot. It is claimed in the discussion there that there was never any consensus reached on this and therefore it is fine not to use the bosshot. What do you think? I got the image from http://www.ianfleming.org/, the website of the Ian Fleming Foundation (though I don't see it there any more). I imagine it would meet fair use guidelines for the article Ian Fleming, but I don't know about Thunderball - that seems to be a bit of a stretch. I'm no expert either but I think it's fair and reasonable that the author of a work is depicted in a detailed discussion of that work. Maybe if it was a smaller item, the Fleming image would be less significant and therefore harder to justify. On the subject of Thunderball - have changed my objection to a support. I appreciate that you responded to my objection in such a pleasant manner. Good luck with the article. I think it deserves to be featured, and it's attracting some positive comments. Cheers. On another matter, I see my edit of Thunderball got cancelled out in an edit conflict. I don't have time to jump back in right now, but basically what I had done was tweak the intro because the original edition of the book wasn't credited to McClory and Whittingham, of course. I also tried to accommodate the suggestion that the reference to the Train Robbery be explained more. But I see no need. I changed the word "meeting" to "briefing" and that's about it. Image issues

A bit of a heads up. Looks like some anonymous editor is taking umbrage at the use of screenshots. He/she made a complaint of sorts on the talk page for the image I uploaded at Enya. Now, I know Wikipedia changed the wording on its image rights tag for screenshots and filled it with legalese, but my interpretation is it's still fine to use them in articles within reason. That said, I thought I'd give you a heads up as this anon could make an issue out of screenshots being used for other articles, such as James Bond-related pages. 23skidoo 20:31, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

I just checked a Gardner book at random (Role of Honour) and saw what has been added to the image page. Are we required to go through such hoops now? When I uploaded the image {{bookcover}} was enough. What changed? Or is this just CYA (cover your ...). I might have overreacted a little bit. I was still reacting to the one guy who said we should only use album covers for the Enya article. I was just concerned that I'd have to write a small essay or spend an hour scouring Google the next time I wanted to put up an image. But who really holds the copyright on a book cover? FYI Wikipedia head honcho Jimbo Wales has put out an edict authorizing speedy deletion of any images without proper copyright information. I'm a little concerned that he doesn't specify what he considers proper; hopefully the existing image use tags are sufficient. Anyway, at least one user is taking him seriously and some Trek images have gone bye-bye. I thought I'd pass this along in case you had any non-tagged images left to deal with. Thanks. I keep an eye on AFD/VFD but I wasn't aware this category of warning existed. If you're collecting feedback on anything, it might be worth suggesting that some of these "possibly unfree image" tags should also be included on the talk page of at least one of the articles using the image. For example, the image for Majel Barrett was flagged and deleted as a speedy, but I have that article on my watchlist; had someone dropped a warning on the talk page I might have been able to jump in and add the proper copyright tag and all that. I asked the user (who I believe is an admin) who deleted that image to put it back temporarily so I can take a look at it, but whether he can, I don't know. 23skidoo 04:39, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

Issues on Banned IP

Howdy,

My name's Mark and I'm typing from TransportSA, a state government agency here in Sunny (well, sort of sunny) South Australia.

Noticed that this IP ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:203.26.206.130 ) has been banned due to vandalism, and if I could, would highly recommend that you contact Internode about this. Internode has been around as an ISP here in SA for a very very long time, and has a reputation of "doing the right thing". Could I recommend you contact Simon Hackket at Simon@Internode.on.net .. He's the CEO of the business, and a very active and involved person. It may be quite possible that he could initiate some action against the *actual* vandal if you are able to provide a clean time and date that the offending IP did it's work. I *think* actions like this would be against the agreement made with Internode on fair use.

In any case, he's a great guy who just won't ignore the issue.

Unified Shaders (again)

Thanks. that was a great reply, but there were a LOT of complex words in there. Dont worry, this is normal in my case- I ALWAYS talk to people much smarter than I. Aah. my quest for Unified Shaders is finally nearing end. :D The few words i need rephrazed for me are:

• Allocation
• Architecture
• Threading
• When's DirectX 10 comming out?
• What API is the Xbox 360 gonna be using?
• API (even though this wasn't in the reply, but i see this a lot)

I have an idea of all these word's definitions, but the thing is, all throughout wikipedia, it uses big, complex words to describe everything so i dont know the exact definition.

Also, i wanna know how i can personally nag you about my questions without these million-some-odd number of people listening to us- this is what happens when you give a mouse a cookie :D

ES Blofeld

In the trivia section in the article about Blofeld there is a reference that he was named after the father of Henry Blofeld, which seems to have been added by you. I have seen the same elsewhere, but was wondering whether you have an exact source.

In some Henry Blofeld book (possibly 'Caught short of the boundary and other long stories' - not sure, read a long time ago), HB said something about Fleming, who was going around in search of an evil name wandering into their club, saw the names of three Blofelds (Henry, his brother & father) in the register and looked no further. From what I remember , HB did not talk about ESB's name being inspired by just his father. I am curious whether he gets specific about this elsewhere ? Tintin 13:12, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

Deleting/Moving Lost (TV series)

This one was an actual article prior to be changed to a redirect, and then finally a disambiguation page. K1Bond007 06:23, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

You make my point for me-- Lost (TV series) was the original title for the article, which had all the content moved to Lost (television drama) without any "formal procedure." Later, Lost (television drama), as well as Lost (TV), were redirected to Lost (2004 television series). I propose that it be reverted to its original name, which more closely matches other similar television articles' titles, as there was no vote (or even discussion) to have it moved in the first place. Thus, there should be no need for a formal procedure, a week of voting, to enact a revert to its original name. And heck, Wikipedia's (still in-effect, last I checked) Be Bold policy says, "[F]eel free to dive right in and make broad changes as you see fit... as long as you have an appetite for debate, being bold is generally a defensible position."
