Rubric:[edit]

Points are accumulated in the following categories. Although a Good Article or Feature Article is not our goal and thus has no impact on points, those that maximize their grade will hopefully produce such a product.

I will provide you with a school calendar in which you will highlight the days you actively edited the article. This does not include chatting with others or sharing Wiki-love. Although there is nothing in the rubric regarding the distribution of your edits over time, it will play heavily in my bias as I award points under the category… determined by the teacher. Also include a copy of your edit count, a meaningless document in the high-count extreme, but can speak volumes when the edit count is in the single digits.

Content[edit]

  • Definition: Information specific to the subject that was added to an article. This does not include, rephrasing, grammatical corrections or spelling corrections of existing information.
  • Evidence. Printed copy of the article, which highlights specific sentences or phrases added to the article. Even if the content was re-written through copy-edits by others, if the basic information remains intact, then credit is earned. Include a rough calculation of the % of the article via a line estimate. For example if the articles is composed of 100 lines, and you highlight 20 of them – then roughly 20% reflects your effort. I will verify your calculations.

100 – 80% / 79-60% / 59-40% / 39-20% / 19- 1% / 0%
500pts 400pts 300pts 200pts 100pts 0 pts

Referencing[edit]

  • Definition: A reference added to the Reference or Bibliography Section that is included in the final version of the article. The reference must also be cited in the paper adjacent to the information sourced. This does not include formatting reference added by others.

  • Evidence: Highlight the references on the print that were specifically added by you.

+50 / 49-40 / 39-30 / 29-20 / 19-10 / 9-1 0
300 pts 250pts 200pts 150pts 100pts 50pts 0pts

  • Formatting reference: Up to 15 pts can be earned by assisting others in apply the correct format to references.

Images[edit]

  • Definition: A photograph, graphic, table, or chart, which was added to the article. The image must survive the copyright test.

+5 / 4 / 3 / 2 / 1
100pts 80pts 60pts 40pts 20pts.

Bonus: If the image was created by you and uploaded to Wikimedia in compliance with copyright rules. An additional 5pts / picture up to a maximum of 10pts.

Bonus: If you persuade the original author to release an image for use in your article and it complies with copyright regulations. An additional 5pts / picture up to a maximum of 10pts.

Collaboration[edit]

  • Defined as a positive exchange with another within the Wikipedia community, other than a classmate, which leads to improvement on the article.
  • Evidence: A print out of the exchange. This would include instances where you address concerns raised by others in the peer-review, GA or FA process. It does not include random pleas for help, nor expressions of gratitude.

A maximum of 200pts… to be determined by the teacher.

Bonus: Evidence of contact with an expert in the field, via e-mail or interview. Although such source cannot be referenced, they go a long way in helping you understand the topic. A maximum or 20pts … to be determined by the teacher.

Grammar and Composition[edit]

  • Definition: Edits to articles other than your own in which you correct grammatical errors, spelling errors, and general clarity. No points for correcting your own mistakes. The changes must become permanent to qualify as an improvement over the existing state.

A maximum of 200pts… to be determined by the teacher.

Contributions that will reduce points[edit]

  • Evidence of plagiarism: Define as lifting content from another source without attributing the original author. If then information is not restructured in your own words (paraphrasing) the quotation marks are essential to avoid this charge. – 500pts

  • Failure to respond to specific concerns regarding your article raised by others in the community. This would include ignoring suggestions during Teacher Review, Peer Review, GA, or FA.; in such a case, your response should be nearly immediate – but not to exceed 2 days. Other general comments on talk pages unrelated to the article, allow for a longer period of response time. Point deductions will be determined by the teacher, but will not exceed 20pts.
  • Conflicts in which improper behavior results in blocking may be subjected to point reductions. Although that is very open ended… it will be determined by the teacher.
