Article Evaluation[edit]

The article I evaluated was Soviet Famine of 1932-33 which discussed the facts of the famine, causes and laws that were enacted which caused additional suffering during the famine. I did not find any bias in this article and the author did a good job of citing references and providing links to the relevant articles. There was one reference, #33, which was in Russian which I am not sure why it was put there. The average reader is not going to gain any understanding what was written, and if you click on the hyperlink for this reference it takes you to a Wiki page which is blank.

What I found missing from this article within the Reasons sectionwas any mention of the unobtainable quotas put against Ukraine during this time which resulted in many deaths, or the numerous police squads sent to take grain away from the peasants personal supplies in order to meet the quota. This also led to many people dying of starvation.

The talk page makes recommendations for corrections of citations and some content. The author attempted to make all of the corrections but one person believed the Law of Spikelets section was a useless section. I agree as this section did not seem to fit within the article and was a distraction from the real issue. One person felt the article was completely biased. I did not agree with this assessment.

The article is rated as a start class with high importance within the WikiProject Soviet Union.
