Part of the 2014 Pacific hurricane and typhoon seasons

Hurricane Genevieve, also known within the Western Pacific basin as Typhoon Genevieve, was the first tropical cyclone to exist in all the three tropical cyclone basins in the North Pacific Ocean since Jimena in 2003 as well as the fourth strongest tropical cyclone of the 2014 Pacific typhoon season. A powerful and long-lived tropical cyclone, Genevieve formed from a disturbance in the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) on July 25, 2014. Increasing wind shear caused Genevieve to weaken into a tropical depression two days later and to degenerate into a remnant low on the following day. The system briefly regenerated into a tropical cyclone well to the south of Hawaii on July 29, but it degenerated into a remnant low on August 1.

Moving into more favourable conditions for the development of a tropical cyclone, Genevieve regenerated into a tropical depression on August 2, but aside from a brief period at tropical storm strength, Genevieve remained a depression until August 5. Further improvements in the environment allowed Genevieve to rapidly intensify as it crossed the International Date Line, and Genevieve reached peak intensity as a Category 5 typhoon on August 7. Tracking northwards into an area of increasing shear and colder waters, Genevieve began to rapidly weaken. The storm fell below typhoon strength on August 11 and dissipated on August 14.
