Shu (Chu) is a city of district subordination in the Shu district of the Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan. Until 1993 - the city of Chu, May 4, 1993. By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of Kazakhstan, the transcription of the name of the city of Chu in Russian was changed to Shu.[2].

Geography[edit]

Located on the left bank of the Chu River (Kaz.Shu), 265 km north-east of Taraz.

Economics[edit]

  • A large junction railway station on the Almaty-Taraz line (Turksib section); here the line going to the north, to Astana and Petropavlovsk, connects with it.
  • Plants: diesel locomotive repair plant is a town-forming enterprise, mechanical repair (currently not working), sugar (currently destroyed and not functioning) and dairy (currently not working). Unemployment in the city
