Joy Banerjee[edit]
Joy Banerjee (born 18th march 1983) is an Indian Film Actor, officially named Abhijeet Banerjee. He has acted in a film titled "Mumbai Cutting"-a compilation of 11 short stories, directed by eleven foremost directors- anuraag kashyap, sudhir mishra, revathi, Jahnu Barua etc. and produced by Sahara One Motion Pictures. Joy played the protagonist in Jahnu Barua’s story in the film.
At present Joy is shooting for his upcoming film produced by Ashtavinayak Production's, titled "21SURVIVAL12" as lead with Gurdeep Singh Mehndi(son of Daler Mehndi) as his co-star. It is directed by Shailesh Nile.
Early life and background[edit]
Joy completed his schooling from Seventh Day Adventist High School, finished his higher studies from Colvin Taluqdars College and Christian College Lucknow with a Master's degree in english literature.
Career[edit]
Born with artistic genes inherited from his parents, Joy actively participated in Doordarshan (Indian National TV) and All India Radio programs for children and youth, since an early age, writing his own scripts and voicing & enacting them. He also is an efficient guitarist who likes to churn out his own tunes and compose songs.
He later joined local theatre group in Lucknow and New delhi and honed his acting skills under the able guidance of his seniors. Joy is also a finalist in acting workshop conducted by the National school of drama, New Delhi in 2001. He is equally active in sports and wanted to join Indian Army, but unfortunately was not selected in physical test for being too thin and lanky. But a man of resolve and optimism as he is, Joy was determined to dedicate himself to build a more fit and athletic physique. With steadfast resolve he trained hard for several hours.
He was the 1st runner up in Rajasthan Senior State level Body building Championship in 2000.
But it was his love for acting and theatre that made him made him shift his base to Mumbai.
He further polished his acting art by joining some prestigious theatre groups in Mumbai and performed on stage at various levels, at the same time juggling with some odd jobs like working as a fitness trainer and also as a bouncer in one of the famous night clubs in juhu, Mumbai.
His perseverance, tenacity and patience payed off when he was spotted by a top-notch model co-ordinator, After many gruelling rounds auditions Joy got his first break in adman Prahlaad Kakkar’s TV commercial for a talcum powder, sharing screen with none other than superstar of Bollywood Shahrukh khan.
Personal life[edit]
Joy is elder son of Shri Bimalendu Shekhar Banerjee, a gazzetted officer in All India Radio (AIR), and Smt. Monika Banerjee, a housewife and schoolteacher, with a sibling Abhishek. He is an avid reader and writes short stories, essays in hindi in his spare time.
