Club career[edit]

Early career[edit]

Zürich[edit]

Basel[edit]

On 28 June 2014 it was announced that Gashi had transferred to inter-city rivals FC Basel on a four year contract.[1][2][3] Basel paid an estimated three million euro for Gashi and it was reported that he would earn a million euro per season including benifits.[4] Gashi made it his debut for Basel on 19 July 2014, playing as a starter against one of his former teams Aarau. Basel won the away game 2–1 and Gashi gave the assist to the second goal which was scored by Naser Aliji in the 38th minute.[5] Gashi scored his first goal for the club in the next fixture, on 27 July 2014, the home game at the St. Jakob-Park against Luzern. The match ended in a 3–0 victory and Gashi scored the second goal in the 39th minute.[6] He scored in the second consecutive match on 2 August 2014 in the away game against Thun. This fixture ended in a 3–2 victory.[7] He scored his third consecutive goal during the match on 9 August 2014, the home tie against Zürich which ended in a 4–1 victory. Gashi scored the opening goal in the 24th minute.[8]

The following match was lost 0–2 against St. Gallen, but Gashi was again on the score sheet on 17 August 2014 in the away tie against Sion which ended in a 3–2 victory. Gashi scored the opening goal in the 19th minute.[9][10] On 31 August 2014 Gashi played the assists for two goals in the 3–1 home victory against Young Boys, the first in the 4th minute for the opening goal by Derlis González and the second in the 20th minute for the goal scored by Marco Streller.[11] [12] Gashi also scored on 18 October 2014 in the away tie against Young Boys to give his team a 1–0 victory.[13] In the fourteenth round, on 1 November 2014, Gashi scored the opening goal in the 2–0 victory against his previous club Grasshoppers Zürich.[14]

Trainer Paulo Sousa did not include Gashi in the team during the first three rounds of the 2014–15 UEFA Champions League group stage. But on 4 November 2014 he made his Champions League debut and scored his first Champions League goal in the 4–0 win over Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad,[15] becoming only the second albanian player after Besart Berisha to score a goal in the Champions League.[16] He was in the starting eleven and played the full 90 minutes.[17][18]

Gashi scored twice in Basels the 3–0 victory on 23 November against Aarau. He scoried the opening goal in the 17th minute and the second in the 86th minute.[19] Again on 30 November he scored twice as Basel won the away match in the Letzigrund 2–1 against Zürich, the team that were in second place in the league table at that time. The first goal a side footed short shortly before haf time and a header as winning goal in 94th minute. Basel then had a five point lead as league leaders.[20]
