Biography[edit]

My name is Helder Tsinine, I was born in Mozambique (Southeast Africa) in 1980. I like to be as open-minded as possible about music styles. In fact, I have played different styles of music, rock, jazz, afro-pop, latin with my previous band in my home country. The year I left Mozambique to come to the U.S., I was one of a few students in the country’s very first Bachelor’s degree in Music. My goal as I am here in the United States is learn as much as I can and bring back my skills and contacts back to Mozambique to help build the music program there both in the public schools and universities. While a student in the US, I have been involved in many activities such as organizing for education reform in communities of Massachusetts, as well as recording and performing, especially with the band Koliba. I continues to be involved in an organization back home that he helped form, which works to prevent HIV through popular education and performances. I am proud and excited to be at Berklee and look forward to sharing my experiences and learning from the Berklee community so that I can give back to my community in Mozambique.
