Scouting

Explorer Scouts

Sorry, I had forgot about it. Much of my experience back in the 1960s was with Senior Scouts/Venture Scouts or Rover Scouts. I know little about what Explorer Scouts are doing now on the ground in UK, but I get the impression from the article that it is a pretty sensible and usefull program. That is a plus for the article. BTW, I like the photo of Stanage. That was one of my stomping grounds in my youth and in September I climbed up to Stanage Pole from Hathersage with my 30/20 year old year old daugher and son who live now in London and tried to explain what it was all about, but I digress. I think it is a good article. I suggest you put it to peer review. I'll be happy to discuss the comments from the review with you. Scout unit structure

Horus, I'd like to learn more of unit structure in Britain. I've never been totally sure I understand it. In the BSA, there is the national hq, then councils. Councils will have several districts. The district is the lowest level that has paid professionals, one per district that works out of the council hq. Under the districts will be the individual units: Cub packs, Scout troops, Venture crews, Explorer posts, Varsity teams, etc. Councils don't usually have regular volunteers unless someone just wants to help. Districts will have some volunteers. The units are all volunteers. How does this correlate to The Scout Association, such as what you call Sections and Groups, etc? Yes, it helps much. So an Area/County is like a council, districts are the same. The Group is where it's different. We really don't have something like a Group. The closest would be a single church or whatever that sponosors Cubs, Scouts, Venturers that all have the same Chartered Organization Representative and that is the only common connection. The COR is a volunteer, not paid. Most sponsoring organizations do not have all types of units. Each unit is a separate entity, they just happen to have a common COR and sponsoring organization.Rlevse 12:41, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Wood Badge

Your reference to gaining the Wood Badge in three years talks of "appropriate training". In the old days that meant a Preliminary Training Course, not the full Wood Badge. Are you sure it now means the Wood Badge? Ask your District Training guy - Traning Advisor> - it used to be ADC (Training) - I was one. --Bduke 21:54, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

OK, so why does'nt POR say it is Wood Badge? Do the 20 modules include the week (or 4 weekends) at camp? In the old days, lots of good leaders never got Wood Badge.
