From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a list of Royal Air Force general and air officers who died during the First World War. This list includes all officers who are listed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) as having died while serving during the First World War. During this period, Royal Air Force general officers (up to 1919) were those who held the ranks of brigadier-general, major-general or lieutenant-general while air officers (from 1919) were those holding the ranks of air commodore, air vice-marshal or air marshal.

During the hostilities of World War I, both Royal Air Force and Royal Flying Corps generals did not generally fly on operations.[1] While no Royal Air Force general officers died between the creation of the Royal Air Force, 1 April 1918, and the armistice of 11 November 1918, three general or air officers died between the armistice and 31 August 1921 which was defined by an act of British parliament as the formal end of the war. Two air officers were killed in flying accidents.
