Dean Miller (Station 19)[edit]

Dean Miller is a fictional character in the television series Station 19, portrayed by Okieriete Onaodowan. He is one of the main protagonists, a firefighter at station 19 of the Seattle Fire Department.

Early Life[edit]

Dean originally worked at a corporate job. One night when a few of his co workers came over to drink, Tom, one of his co workers passed out and fell into the lake.[1] While the other co workers called 911 Dean pulled him out of the water and started to give him CPR.[1] When emergency responders arrived Dean insisted on continuing CPR until Tom had been successfully revived.[1] Pruit, the responder on the scene offered Dean his business card if he was interested in changing his career.[1]

Personality[edit]

Dean is empathetic, charming, passionate, funny, and deeply cares about others.[2] He is always willing to break the rules if it means helping someone disempowered in need. He in turn does not have much respect for authority and often times does not follow direct orders if he does not agree with them. As well as his anger can get out of hand when he cares deeply about someone or something.

Relationships[edit]

Romantic[edit]

Tiffany[edit]

Dean had responded to a fire at Tiffany's house where he rescued her dog Charlie.[1] Following this interaction they had sex and he let her stay over until she could find a new home.[3] When she moved into her new place she asked Dean to look after Charlie because her new apartment was not pet-friendly.[3]

JJ Lau[edit]

JJ had come into the fire station with a broken smoke detector.[4] Dean and her started to flirt while he fixed it for her.[4] He later responded to a fire at her apartment building where he carried her out and contiunously checked on her throughout the emergency.[4] JJ's toxic on again off again boyfriend, Seth had died from the fire which led JJ running to Dean.[4] Dean debated getting into a relationship with JJ because he wanted to give her time to grieve but Pruit told him to pursue her if he wanted to.[1] When Dean went to her apartment JJ asked him out on a date.[1] The date ended with him carrying her back into her apartment.[1] They continued to have a great time together going out but their relationship had a negative affect on his work as he had been going out all night prior to being on duty.[1] JJ then decided she was bored and went on a spiritual journey where she found out she was pregnant.[4] Months later she comes back to tell Dean she is pregnant with his baby and he invites her to move in.[4] Dean asked her to marry him but she made it clear that was not what she wanted.[1] Following the birth of their baby Pru, JJ was overwhelmed by the responsibilities and pressure of being a good mom so she left.[4]

Nikki[edit]

Nikki was a blind date Dean was set up with by his parents.[1] They got along well but she was eager to leave.[5] However, Dean decided to call her because he enjoyed talking to her.[1] They continued to go on a couple dates and they went on a double date with Maya and Jack where Maya and Nikki are confused to see each other because they had previously dated.[5]

Sasha Bennett[edit]

Sasha had come into the fire station because her earring was stuck in her hair.[1] Dean helped her get it out and in return she gave him her number.[1] They started to see each other after this but when the Covid-19 pandemic began Sasha offered to move in and help Dean take care of his daughter but Dean said no and they broke up.[6]

Victoria Hughes[edit]

Dean and Victoria have always been very good friends, working side by side at station 19.[1] When Victoria moved in to help Dean take care of Pru he developed feelings for her but he asked her to move out when he it hurt too much living with her when her feelings were clearly not reciprocated.[1] They continued to be friends and he tried to keep his crush on her in check up until he died.[1] The day of the accident he told her he loved her and asked her to move to Oakland, California with him.[1]

Family[edit]

Parents[edit]

Ifeya and Bill Miller are Deans parents. They are very controlling of Dean's life and success so at a young age he decided to move out. [1] His relationship with them became even more estranged and they cut him off when he refused to quit his firefighter career to join the family business.[1] After the pandemic they mended their relationship and Ifeya helped out Dean by looking after Pru while he was at work.[1]

Sister[edit]

Yemi Miller is Dean's only sibling. Despite moving out at a young age and having a bad relationship with his parents Dean and Yemi always kept in touch and got along well.

Friendships[edit]

Jack Gibson[edit]

Jack and Dean met at the fire academy where they originally didn't like each other.[1] They eventually became the best of friends and even worked at station 19 together.[7] When Jack opened up to Dean about growing up in foster care Dean invited him to move in, which he later on did.[7]

Other Station 19 fire fighters[edit]

Dean is good friends with Maya Bishop, Travis Montgomery, Ben Warren, Robert Sullivan and Andi Pruit, who are all fire fighters at station 19.[1]
