White flew a Grumman J4F when he sank U-166.

Henry C. White was an aviator and senior petty officer in the United States Coast Guard.[1]

On August 1, 1942, while patroling the Gulf of Mexico in a Grumman J4F, he spotted German U-boat U-166.[1] The U-boat dived, but he sunk it with the single depth charge his plane carried.[2]

White was subsequently commissioned, and was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross.[3]
