The Bishopsfield Estate is a housing estate of 256 homes in Harlow, a new town in Essex. It is known locally as The Kasbah[1] or The Casbah in reference to its perceieved similarities to kasbahs and North African architecture.[2] The estate was designed by Michael Neylan and won a Civic Trust Award and

Bishopsfield's success helped launch Neylan's architecture practice with Bill Ungless, with the two going on to design several other housing projects in the thirty years afterwards.[3][4]

In 2008, Harlow District Council estimated that £50,000 of investment per flat would be needed to bring the estate up to 'decent homes' standard, resulting in proposals for the site's demolition.[2][5] The threat of demolition prompted The Twentieth Century Society to again recommend that the estate be Grade II listed.[5]
