Suzy Castor (sometimes Suzie Castor)[1] is a Haitian historian and human rights activist.[2] She is a founder and co-director of the non-governmental organization CRESFED (Centre de Recherche et de Formation Économique et Sociale pour le Développement, in English, the Research and Training Center for Economic and Social Development).[3][4]


In 2005, she was awarded the Juan María Bandrés Award of the Spanish Commission for Aid to Refugees (CEAR).[5]


Family[edit]

Castor is the widow of Haitian political leader Gérard Pierre-Charles.[5] They had three sons and one daughter before his death in 2004.[6] Castor's sister Paula Castor Gourgue is married to Gérard Gourgue, who was named provisional president of Haiti in a dispute of the 2000 elections.[7] Castor's sister, Myrtho Pompée, was assassinated in July 2012.[8]
