The Kraemer Family Library is a library at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. It contains over 1.25 million total items including volumes, microforms, and government documents.

History

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs received its first federal grants intended for library use in November of 1965. The two grants from the United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare were valued $5,000 each. In October of 1966, Glenn H. Johnson, Head Librarian at the time, published the first inventory of the Library's collection, showing a shelf count of approximately 8,000 volumes.

The El Pomar center was constructed in 1975 on the funding of the El Pomar Foundation. The current home to the university library, this is where the Kraemer Family Library proper was first established. The building was renovated at the turn of the century to increase the library's capacity as well as add the University Center.

Electronic Resources

In addition to the volumes and other items shelved in the library itself, the library website has a wide selection of databases, catalogs, and periodicals. Students may access these online resources from any computer, but public patrons must use the computers provided on-site. Using OneSearch, users may search all of these databases and the library collection at once. Through the library website, students also have free access to RefWorks and an interlibrary loan service.
