Eduardo Antonio Ladeira, educator and investigator in pure and applied geological sciences, son of José Eduardo and Irene Salgado Ladeira. Married to Ruth Marlene Bruetsch in October 9, 1965. Secondary studies, Colégio Santo Antônio, in São João del Rey, Minas Gerais, 1954. Technician in Mining and Metallurgy, in the Escola Técnica of Ouro Preto, 1957. Geologist, Escola de Minas de Ouro Preto (School of Mines of Ouro Preto), 1963. Training periods and many extension courses, with T.J. Blachut, J.C.Rivereau, Horst Quade. Ph.D. thesis on the gold genesis of the mine of Morro Velho, with the supervision of W.S. Fyfe, R.W. Hutchinson and R.W.Hodder. Economic geologist for the company Geologia e Sondagens Ltda., 1964-1969. Geologist for the company Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais - United Nations Program - 1964. Member of the Committee for the establishment of a Graduate Program in Geology at Universidade de Brasília (UnB), 1970-1971.

Coordinator, from 1980 to 1983, of the Committee for the creation in the Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto of a Graduate Program in Geology; coordinated and its first official professor staff, 1983-1984. Member of the Committee that implanted the Graduate Program in Geology at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), 1984-1988, and Coordinator of the staff of professors of this Graduate Program, 1990-1992. Member of the Advisory Board in Geology and Physical Geography of research funding institutions such as CNPq, 1985-1988 and PADCT (1983-1984). Member of the Council of Exact and Earth Sciences of FAPEMIG (Minas Gerais state research funding agency), 1990-1991. Consultant ad hoc of CNPq, FAPEMIG, FINEP, FAPESP, PADCT and other emergency programs of these funding agencies for the Universities.

He has been participating in many Master and Ph.D. thesis examining committees and of committees for professorship admission in all levels in various Brazilian universities, of the selection of geologists in governmental or private mining companies, on structural geology and metallogenesis. He coordinated coordinating various pure and applied research projects. He has supervised many undergraduate scientific training students with scholarship, apprenticeships and he supervises Master degree students in the IGC-UFMG.

Permanent member of the Sociedade Brasileira de Geologia - SBG (Brazilian Society of Geology), he occupied the Vice-Presidency, and various directory positions, participating in the organization of numerous conferences and symposia. Guest Speaker (1985) and Fellow (1986) in the Society of Economic Geologists (USA), Founder member of the Sociedade de Intercâmbio Cultural e Estudos Geológicos de Ouro Preto, SICEG (Society of Cultural Interchange and Geological Studies of Ouro Preto), of the Associação de Profissionais da Indústria de Mineração, APROMIN (Association of Professionals of Mining Industry). President of the committee that organized the International Symposium Brazil Gold '91. Member of the Geologische Vereinigun from 1973 to 1990. Member of the editorial boards of the Revista da Escola de Minas , 1982, of the Ciências da Terra (Earth Sciences) of SBG, 1983-1984 and of the Revista Brasileira de Geociências (1970 to the 1992), consultant of the Boletim IG-USP, and Pesquisas of the Instituto de Geociências of Universidade do Rio Grande do Sul (URGS).Associate member of the Academia Brasileira de Ciências- (ABC, Brazilian Academy of Sciences), since April 4, 1976, where he integrated the Commission to Study the Convenience of the Creation of the Brazilian Geological Survey - 1986-87.

Publications[edit]

Author and/or co-author of a hundred articles published in Brazil and twenty abroad, a textbook, editor and co-editor of journals and author of chapters in some books, besides 25 articles in newspapers and magazines of widespread circulation. He has been doing conferences in Brazil and abroad and has guided geological expeditions individually or with other colleagues in Brazil for national or foreign researchers. He has performed consulting work for various intitutions, and he was investigator for CNPq in the project Rio das Velhas Project, coordinated by the Departamento Nacional de Produção Mineral (National Department of Mineral Production) - CPRM (Companhia de Pesquisa de Recursos Minerais).

Hobbies[edit]

Diversified reading, with emphasis in natural sciences, biographies, ecology, philosophy, essays; philately, music, cinema, chess, astronomy and astrophysics, oenology, apiculture.
