1934[edit]

Germany's first appearance in a World Cup came in 1934 when they finished in third place. A win over Luxembourg and a win by France over Luxembourg secured both teams qualification to the World Cup, so a qualification match between the two teams was cancelled. At the World Cup, Germany defeated Belgium in the first round and Sweden in the quarter-finals before losing to Czechoslovakia in the semi-finals. In the third-place match, Germany defeated Austria. Three friendlies were played in 1934. Germany defeated Denmark, Hungary, and Poland in these friendlies.[7]
