My personal notes to help me learn the lessons of my first RfB.

Please Note: This page isn't yet complete. Real life is acting up, and I've opted to spend more time thanking participants rather than make a to-do list that will remain unaddressed for a few weeks. Feel free to use the talk page to bring up any additional issues you think I should address.

Concerns[edit]

Quick summaries to help me zero-in on the areas I need to improve. Personal comments are color coded; red means it's an area I still need to fully address, whereas green is an area that I feel I have either sufficiently addressed or is/will be a non-issue.

Opposers[edit]

  1. Dmcdevit - concerns about how I'd handle RfA discussions (specifically: worried I'd treat them as votes).
    • Personal comment - I feel that my answers to additional questions allayed this concern.
  2. Ghirla - argument consisted of thinly-veiled personal attacks, declarations of IRC cabalism, and unsourced claims that I "enthusiastically" drove off an editor.
    • Personal comment - Nothing that can be done about it except ignore it.
  3. Nearly Headless Nick - concerns about civility (doubled due to my response to Ghirla).
    • Personal comment - Initial concern about civility, and area in most need of attention.
Nick has confirmed he would provide pre-RfB civility feedback when requested.
  4. RxS - Concerns about civility in regards to my interaction with Giano.
    • Personal comment - Assuming that I don't interact with Giano again and/or I keep my mouth shut about it, this should be a non-issue.
  5. Xoloz - Concerns about overall civility and in taking comments too personally.
    • Personal comment - Civility is my primary area of self-improvement.
  6. Bhadani - Concerns about civility and my strong responses to Oppose !votes.
    • Personal comment - Civility is my primary area of self-improvement, and next time I'm going to shut up.
  7. Majorly - Concerns about civility (apparently).
    • Personal comment - Civility is my primary area of self-improvement.
  8. Durin - Concerns about civility and my response to Ghirla.
    • Personal comment - Civility is my primary area of self-improvement, and next time I won't be as directly responsive to opposition arguments.
  9. Nishkid64 - Concerns about civility and the need to more carefully choose my words, coupled with concerns about my semi-obvious desire to become a 'crat.
    • Personal comment - Civility is my primary area of self-improvement. Nothing wrong with wanting to be a 'crat (aside from the obvious insinuations of insanity).
  10. MichaelLinnear - "overall impression I have" (I'm assuming is in reference to civility). Also has concerns about my collection of insults.
    • Personal comment - Civility is my primary area of self-improvement. The list of insults isn't going anywhere, though.
  11. Konstable - Concerns about how I'd handle RfAs, as well as my reactions to Ghirla.
    • Personal comment - I feel answers provided after the !vote cleared up the concerns somewhat, and next time I won't be as directly responsive to opposition arguments.
  12. TomasBat - Concerns about civility.
    • Personal comment - Civility is my primary area of self-improvement.
  13. John - Concerns about civility (as per Xoloz and Durin).
    • Personal comment - Civility is my primary area of self-improvement.
  14. GRBerry - Concerns about civility and my responses to questions 1 and 3.
    • Personal comment - Civility is my primary area of self-improvement. Not sure how to address the other concern; additional clarification is needed.
  15. TigerShark - Concerns about inexperience, and reactions to opposition arguments.
    • Personal comment - Will have several months more experience by my second RfB, and next time I won't be as directly responsive to opposition arguments.
  16. Sefringle - Concerns about civility ("per above").
    • Personal comment - Civility is my primary area of self-improvement.
  17. Everyking - Believes that 'crats are only supposed to vote-count. Deviation from that is unacceptable.
    • Personal comment - Runs contrary to everything I know and have read/experineced about RfAs.
  18. Folajimi - Concerns about civility (tact).
    • Personal comment - Civility is my primary area of self-improvement.

Neutral[edit]

  1. Visviva - Mild concerns about civility. Also suggested becoming involved in mediation to improve dispute resolution skills.
    • Personal comment - Civility is my primary area of self-improvement.
  2. Jmlk17 - Mild concerns about civility, as well as a need for the tools.
    • Personal comment - Civility is my primary area of self-improvement.
  3. ReyBrujo - Prefers RfB candidates have a year's experience as an admin.
    • Personal comment - Not currently planning on submitting my next RfB until after I've passed the 1-year mark.
  4. After Midnight - Mild concerns about civility.
    • Personal comment - Civility is my primary area of self-improvement.
  5. Camaron1 - Mild concerns about civility. Also slight concerns about being ready for 'crat tools.
    • Personal comment - Civility is my primary area of self-improvement.
  6. Gurch - Uh... didn't want to oppose just because I exist.
    • Personal comment - I will still exist when I submit my next RfB.

Advice[edit]

  • Visviva suggesting becoming involved in formal and informal mediation to help me brush up on my dispute resolution abilities.
  • Everywhere, but especially on this page, try to avoid referring to Giano's actions as trolling. It would be going far beyond what is expected of an editor to take disruption with an assumption of good faith and a smile ... but then a bureaucrat is supposed to be a very rare editor. --AnonEMouse (squeak) 20:46, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Avoid using foul language or stuff of the sort when referring to other users, especially if you´re talking directly to them. Of course, there are times when such language is used for fun, but some users, maybe newcomers or users you recently met, may not take it well and believe that you are not respecting them.
