Fahad Al-Orabi Al-Harthi (Arabic : فهد العرابي الحارثي)(born 1 June,1946) lives in Riyadh province.

He is the president and co-founder of Asbar Center for Studies and Research. He was born and brought up in Saudi Arabia. He was also Member of the Saudi Shura (Legislative Council) on its first congress, held in 1993 While being re-elected multiple times later in the years 1997 and 2001 respectively.

Education And Early Work[edit]

Dr. Fahad was born and brought in Saudi Arabia, where he also got his Primary education. He received his PhD in Human Sciences and Literature from Université de La Sorbonne, Paris, France with the grade of Très Bien (1st Class degree with Honours). He also received his BA in Arabic Language and Literature from the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, Mecca (Umm Al Qura University at present) with 1st Class degree with Honours.

Al-Harthi then joined the staff of King Saud University in Riyadh between 1980 and 1993. At the same time, he worked as editor-in-chief of Al-Yamamah, one of the earliest magazines published in Saudi Arabia. He also joined the publication’s board of directors.

In 1997, Al-Harthi was appointed the head of the scientific research team in charge of the consultation and initial foundation studies for Al-Watan newspaper. The team was under his direct supervision for more than two years before publication of the newspaper and around three years afterwards. He was the first chairman of the newspaper’s board of directors.

He was also head of the scientific team that carried out research for reestablishing the Eastern Co. for Printing, Media and Information and the Dammam-based Al-Sharq magazine.

Current work[edit]

Dr Fahad co-founded Asbar Center for Studies, Research and Media in 1994 and is the owner of it as of now. The purpose of the Center is to contribute to the development of society and improve its institutions’ efficiency & effectiveness through emphasizing on the importance of scientific studies as the best means that lead to the correct decisions.

He is also acting as the current Chairman of Asbar World Forum which contributes in providing a high level of understanding on the issues associated with transitioning the Kingdom’s oil-based economy to a knowledge-based one, and demonstrating the relationship between the knowledge society and sustainable development, and clarifying on the role of knowledge in raising the efficiency of the productive and service sectors and their capacity to absorb the transformation of knowledge into economic value.

Along with that he also acts as the Chairman of Asbar Convention (a Think Tank), which includes 100 intellectuals from different political and social backgrounds, and whose purpose is to demonstrate a profound knowledge of the latest events and social issues, promoting the values of discourse, and exchanging opinions between intellectual and cultural elites.

Dr. Fahad has been the author of a number of research papers, studies and essays published in different scientific newspapers and journals (academic and non-academic). He also prepared many scientific papers and delivered a sizable number of lectures in different national, Arab and international scientific and cultural occasions and events.
