Michigan Heritage Park

I did not take any pictures of the Mastadon. For all the quality reproductions they did, this seemed to be an afterthought. I think they did to expand the time frame from hundreds of years to 10,000. It is a pile of concrete that was some how formed to replicate a skeleton. They then painted the concrete to make them look like bones. It is a real hack job. They also have Indian burial mounds that are basically piles of dirt in the woods.

Tomorrow the local Archaeology society is having a dig. I think this is for demonstration purposes because this property was untouched. As the photos show, everything is brand new. They brought in an expert to show them how to build a correct wigwam. Nothing here is historic. What they are trying to do is show what life in early Michigan was like for the Indians and the first European explorers.

I regret not taking a picture of the administration building. I will get that sometime in the future. It is very modern structure with classrooms, and of course, a gift shop. I didn't feel it was conducive to the theme of the park.

They have been open just a few months and it is pretty impressive. I bet in a few years as the buildings age and more people get involved, this facility will be real gem. --Wingerham52 (talk) 00:02, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

It was totally fascinating to work on this article - right up my alley. It sounds so interesting that we are planning a day trip there as I am typing. We live in Ludington, so it is not that far. Never heard of it before, because it is so new. Now we have to go check it out. So if I don't come across the pictures I am looking for, I'll take them myself. Yes, Doug Coldwell, I discovered this to be so with this user, back in the early days or Echo. "Ping" does not like the make-up of this username.

• When a username contains an equal sign, just add 1= at the beginning of the username for the ping to work. For eg. {{Ping/yo/re|1=7&6=thirteen}} - 185.108.128.10 (talk) 11:16, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

I see articles like Woman's World's Fair and I scratch my head wondering how it's possible that this wasn't created a long time ago. Thanks for being the one to do it! As far as I am aware you are only notified about the selected weekly article. You are not notified about the indiviual approval or decline of the article at the nomination board. Draft

• Yes, I definitely need to start using the draft system here on Wikipedia. I almost always write my articles for direct post. Anyway, you write great articles!--BabbaQ (talk) 17:16, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
• @BabbaQ: - When you work in draft, then there is no clock for a DYK and also there is no pressure = as you can get it done whenever you like, like in 2 weeks or 3 weeks or 4 weeks or whenever. Then you have plenty of time to gather your reference sources (i.e. books, online, library responses). End result is your article is many times higher in quality. It all works in your favor, when you do it first in a draft.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 22:41, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
• @BabbaQ: - When you work in draft ideas pop into your head that you can test - and nobody sees it. If it doesn't work, then you just take out = nobody knew. What happens eventually is that you come up with good ideas, that lead to other good ideas. Then article develops and you can double check for mistakes. When you are all done with the article, then you can triple check things out. If you are working it to be a DYK, then you know you have everything needed (and then some). It gets quickly approved and in the long run you are ahead. As you can see I have 365 DYKs, so this concept of a draft first must be good. AND besides the articles then come out looking pretty = then the top seasoned editors like working on your article. Look to see who works on my articles. Sometimes it works with the existing article you have in draft = then you have 2 articles in draft or maybe even 3 articles, etc. Next thing you know you come out with a 2-in-1 DYK nomination or a 3-in-1 DYK or a 4-in-1 DYK or a 9-in-1 DYK or even a 16-in-1 DYK or even a 30-in-1 DYK. Look at my list of DYKs and this is what happened in my multiple DYK hooks. When I started I only had 1 DYK in mind, and one thing lead to another. Article creation secret

• @BabbaQ: Here is where my approach to creating an article is a little different than most. I work it out in a sandbox draft FIRST and then in the long run there is little to fix. Take for example my latest article I created Luther Atwood. It was "created" today and submitted to DYK. There has only been minor edits and improvements needed. I don't have to go back and try to fix a bunch of things, because I worked it out in a draft FIRST. Sooooo - if you want to know the "secret" to making an article with little or no problems, that's it = make it FIRST in a draft sandbox and do all the research then. Then you don't have to go back and fix a bunch of things or save the article. Make it in the darft sandbox so strong that it will stand on its own 2 feet, no matter what. Now the "secret" is out. Meanwhile I am now researching a couple more articles, so my response time may be a little slow as I am at the library.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:54, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
• @BabbaQ: Here are some characteristics of Luther Atwood

1) It is 3 times the size needed for a DYK

2) Running Earwig's Copyvio Detector it shows that the only sequence of 3 words or more are the titles to the patents that he did.

3) There is at least 1 inline reference for every paragraph - most paragraphs have several references.

4) There are book references in addition to web online references.

5) There are some pictures for the article - all copyright free.

6) There are several Categories for the article AND there are several article that link to this article.

• @BabbaQ: Another important feature of the book references above is that it shows the EXACT page number - so that if someone wanted to look up the reference they would known EXACTLY where to go. You start an article in one of those empty "Draft" sandboxes and I will guide you along. The "secret" is to have it all complete in the Draft. THEN and only then make it live. Here is another idea for extra motivation to have the incentive to put in the energy to get all correct the FIRST time = have a DYK hook in mind BEFORE you even start the article. THEN immediately look for THAT hook reference. Now with those 2 things in place, THEN start the Draft and you will have the motivation energy to get everything correct the first time around, BEFORE it is even a live article. • @BabbaQ: I created the article on the principle of preparation. Note the first line as this is my philosophy. It is applicable to creating an article for a successful outcome. When I was a real estate salesman back in the 1980s, I created this real estate buyer's questionnaire form so that I was prepared in working with ONLY qualified buyers that really wanted to buy something and could afford it. I suggested this form to dozens of other salespeople for a selling tool. They all turned it down and never worked with it. Meanwhile I was making an average of 10 times what they were each year, not counting my investments. I gave them gold and they threw it away as trash. Hi, Doug. you've been here a long time so I assumed you knew this, but notability is not created (with exceptions none of which apply to businesspeople) by what someone has accomplished. Notability is created by reliable sources covering what someone has accomplished. It is well established that notability is not established through obituaries alone. Nor is it established by being associated with a notable organization. Very simply, this article needs stronger referencing. Please do not remove the maintenance tag until that is accomplished. The Chicago Tribune and New York Times references are not obituaries. Also the Petoskey News and MLive Media Group references are not obituaries. Did you actually read the text you restored? I mean my question seriously, and more in a tone of bafflement than wrath.

I'll save you the trouble:

First, my amendment is in English. Second, it is succinct. Third, what information has been omitted is irrelevant: the link to the author's page is retained; no page exists for the book itself, and the author's page describes the book with a single sentence, which does not mention the house. Consider whether the name of the character and which floor he inhabits belong on this page.

@Regulov: Suggestion - Next time explain why you are removing a large block of text BEFORE you do it and put that on the Talk Page of the article. THEN put as a edit summary "See Talk" when you remove the text. Then you won't be so fruss-tratted, or in America we say "frustrated". Most editors assume that when a large block of text is removed it is vandalism. Always include an edit summary on whatever you do when adding, subtracting, copyediting, correcting errors, etc. This way it keeps the reverting down.
