Harvesting Corn

Farming is one of the oldest industries practices by humans. It is assumed that farming started at the dawn of human existence and has progressed ever since. Early man's existence consisted of a constant struggle to obtain food enough to sustain life. As man learned which plants he could eat he eventually learned that by encouraging the useful plants to grow his life was made easier. As the food supply became more plentiful the amount of time needed to hunt declined and the process of building communities of people who could trade food for other goods was facilitated. Farming is necessary for the existence of ranching, where animals are grown.

Important farmed animals such as cattle, hogs, horses, goats, sheep and many more are valuable for their contributions to the economy. They are fed primarily by the use of farm products. The dairy industry could not exist in it's present efficient form without farming.

Farming is the basis for civilization and the impetus for nearly all human achievement from the earliest times. Successful farming enabled an economic system of trade where people could develop a skill by which products were created, and by trading easily for food from farmers, industry developed. With the development of industry economies developed. As farming became more efficient the amount of non hunting an non farming time increased which allowed for education, research, and entertain to flourish. Farming is the basis of civilization.

History[edit]

Early man discovered by accident that he cold eat certain plants. He learned to look for those plants. Eventually he also learned, probably by accident, that leaving seeds or parts of plants lying on the ground, or covered up as early man tended to do with his waste, resulted in plant growth. By this revelation man learned to search for and use valuable plants.
