TCDD Taşımacılık A.Ş. (English: TCDD Transportation) is a government-owned railway company responsible for the operations of most passenger and freight rail in Turkey. The company was formed on 14 June 2016, splitting off from the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) to take over railway operations, while TCDD would continue to administer railway infrastructure.[1] TCDD Taşımacılık officially began operations on 1 January 2017.

TCDD Taşımacılık operates trains on a network of over 12,430 km (7,720 mi) within 59 of the 81 provinces in Turkey.

Passenger operations[edit]

TCDD Taşımacılık took over passenger rail operations from TCDD on 1 January 2017 and continues to operate passenger train service on most of its system. Passenger trains are divided into five types of trains:

  • High-speed (Hızlı Tren): TCDD Taşımacılık's premier passenger service, high-speed rail.
  • Mainline (Anahat): Locomotive-hauled express trains connecting major cities as well as minor cities and towns.
  • International (Uluslararası): International trains into neighboring countries.
  • Regional (Bölgesel): Local regional trains stopping at most stations.
  • Commuter (Banliyö): Commuter trains operating within cities.

High-speed rail service, branded as Yüksek Hızlı Tren (YHT), is TCDD Taşımacılık's premier passenger train service. YHT trains operate on two dedicated high-speed lines, totaling a length of 754 km (469 mi): the Ankara-Istanbul high-speed railway and the Ankara-Konya high-speed railway.
