Surname: Denis
Born on 10th February 1941 in Luxembourg, citizen of Luxembourg, but permanent residence since 1960 in Liège, Belgium.

Retired senior scientist/professor from the University of Liège (Belgium). My lectures (most at a post-graduate level) included : geophysics, planetary physics, physical geodesy and geodynamics. My past and present research fields comprise: colour centres in crystals, theoretical astrophysics, astrometry, applied and environmental geophysics: pollution studies in the western Mediterranean basin, search for sinkholes in Upper Silesia by means of ground-penetrating radar measurements, engineering seismology, rock mechanics and onset of microcracks, theoretical seismology, free oscillations of the Earth and planets, earth tides, global deformations, equilibrium figures, models of the internal structure of Earth and planetary bodies, physical geodesy and the Earth's gravity field, palaeorotation of the Earth and variations in the length of the day, geomagnetic palaeointensities, planetology, evolution of the solar system, formation and evolution of the Earth-Moon system, history of science. I was in charge for about ten years of a geomagnetic observatory, a geodynamics underground laboratory, and a local meteorological station.

Corresponding member of the Academy of Science of Luxembourg (Institut Grand-Ducal de Luxembourg, section des sciences), scientific collaborator of the National Museum for Natural History of Luxembourg, member of the International Astronomical Union.

Besides my numerous travels for professional reasons (participation in scientific meetings), I travelled quite a lot for the mere pleasure of meeting other people and cultures. Before starting university studies, I worked for some time as a sailor on a Dutch ship. I am fluent in four languages (lëtzebuergesch, français, deutsch, english) and able to communicate, with more or less effort, in several others (nederlands, italiano, español, русски, türkçe, ... ). I am very fond of music, in particular of chamber music and opera.

I decided to contribute mainly to the french version of Wikipedia, but from time to time I may contribute as well to the english and german versions. I am a fan of Macintosh computers. I am used to LaTeX for writing my scientific papers. I am able to program in a number of computer languages, but the language I prefer is Pascal, despite the fact that it seems — alas! — to become obsolete.
