Beatrice Camp a retired American Foreign Service Officer who served for thirty-two years in both the U.S. Information Agency and the Department of State, serving beingthe Consul General in both Shanghai and Chiang Mai, along with positions in Beijing, Bangkok, Indonesia, Mongolia, Hungary, Sweden, as well as Washington, DC
Shanghai 2008-2011, she was the first woman, and the first public diplomacy officer, to lead a U.S. consulate in China. She also managed U.S. participation in major world’s fairs – Shanghai Expo 2010 and Milan Expo 2015
Education and early career[edit]
Camp graduated from Oberlin College in 1972, then went to teach English for two years at Chiang Mai University in northern Thailand, as a representative of the Oberlin Shansi Memorial Association. After returning, she worked as a journalist in Washington, DC, and helped pioneer the first electronic news service at Dow Jones in New York.
