Under the Wikipedia entry for the 13th Amendment to the Unite States Constitution the following historical error has been entered:
Slavery had been tacitly protected in the original Constitution through clauses such as the Three-Fifths Compromise, by which three-fifths of the slave population was counted for representation in the United States House of Representatives.
The three - fifths clause did nothing to "protect slavery"and had nothing to do with "protection of slavery". The actual historical facts are these: The clause was a formula for allocating population counts with regard to the number of representatives from states and for calculations of tax assessments. The slave states fought for slaves to be counted as 5/5's but compromised at 3/5's. This error should be corrected if Wikipedia is to have credibility.
